Mike Evans’ Final Game In Houston?

September 11th, 2025

Bucs WR Mike Evans.

Mike Evans grew up in Galveston, Tex., a little over an hour from Houston on the Gulf. When he’s not in Florida, Evans resides in Katy, Tex., which is about 30 miles west of Houston.

So Houston has basically been Evans’ backyard all his life. And with the Bucs playing the Texans in Houston on Monday night, Evans, 32 and in a contract year with the Bucs, confessed Monday could be his final game near his home turf.

“It might be,” Evans said. “Even if I played another three or four years, when is the next time we go back?

“This might be my last time.”

Joe did the research and currently, the Bucs are scheduled to host Houston in 2027, which is the next time the Bucs are expected to play the Texans. That’s as far out as the future opponents are known. The standard NFL rotation would put the Bucs back in Houston in 2031.

With the 17th-game rotation in effect, it’s likely Evans would have to wait at least a few more years to even have shot at playing one more game in Houston, provided he sticks with the Bucs.

And no, Evans didn’t say this season is his last.

Evans did say he and his family are treating Monday’s game as if it is his final NFL game in the neck of the woods he calls home.

“A lot of people are coming to this game for that sole reason,” Evans said of his family and friends. “It’s always fun going back to Texas.”

Joe you baited me with the headline, “Mike Evans’ Final Game In Houston?”

  2. Ken Says:

Not a story. He just knows that his final year could be coming up sooner than later. Hard to say exactly when your body will say it’s time. With that said I’m sure he’ll be there to host the Texans in 2027, that may be his final year.

A lot of people don’t realize that ME13 needs a Receiving TD against Houston and NE to be only the second person with TD catches against every team. The other is T.O.

Whew! My heart just dropped on that headline.

Hope Mike has a great game with all his family there. Go Bucs!

Slow Bucs news day? It’s also his final game in Buffalo and Miami potentially. And he may never play again in KC or LA. Oh no.

Time to flip the prime time script!!! Very winnable game let’s get it

I love seeing the line, “when is the next time we go back?”
Hopefully that’s a reflection of ME’s mindset that he’s intent on playing until he retires as a Buc. And what a accomplishment it would be by JL to have drafted him, crafted a culture that he was a part in creating, and then to have him retire in house having played his entire career as a Buc. MAKE IT HAPPEN JASON LICHT!!! How many GM’s are able to say the first player they ever drafted is Hall of Fame bound, was one of the best to ever play the position, and played his entire career under the guy and for the organization that drafted him??

Kevin J. nice little nugget of info there,

capnhowdy, given he signed his last contract at what I consider a little discount to the Bucs, it looks like he also wants to be a lifelong Buc, as long as he is paid decently. I know he still looks to be going strong, but 33 is ancient in WR terms, it’s unlikely we, or any other teams, would be discussing anywhere near market leading price – should mean we won’t be blown out by other teams, contract wise. If we really do let him go, it would be because for whatever reason he wanted to keep going but the Bucs thought he was washed. I think with a guy like Mike, he’d probably make his own call earlier than too late, to walk into the sunset, rather than be taken out back

Hey Joe, I’ve bugged you several times with this one: Does Licht still jump in the pool when the Bucs win? Whoa, Big Mike is 100% healthy with no hammy problems. Future HOFamer and first class human being. Not too shabby for a very first pick as GM, Jason Licht. Bucs, let’s go to 2-0.

Hasn’t done it in years. At least he hasn’t posted video of it.

One of the greatest Buccaneers of all time. Something that can’t be said enough. Dude’s a legend in these parts and beyond.

When did Evans live in those places? As Joe pointed out (clearly) in the story Houston area is where he is from and where he lives. Kind of important to him (as he pointed out).

    Slow comment day?

Every team, that is, except his own team, the Bucs.
Don’t be putting silly ideas into Mikes head please!
