Loads Of Bucs Walking Wounded

September 29th, 2025

Injuries mounting.

UPDATED: Man, Bucs coach Todd Bowles sure was dour about injuries suffered yesterday in the loss to the Eagles.

We know Jamel Dean and Benjamin Morrison left the game with hip/groin and hamstring issues. And Haason Reddick was being monitored for a possible concussion — he said he will be good to go in Seattle.

Bowles admitted he is “a little concerned” about the cornerback position without both Dean and Morrison. Asked about Greg Gaines’ pec injury, Bowles said, “We’re running out of bodies.”

When asked about injuries, Bowles said the Bucs have “quite a few. We’re still processing information. A couple of them have to get MRIs.”

When asked for specific players, Bowles said “quite a few” players had to have MRIs. “I can’t even name them all.”

When prodded, Bowles said Bucky Irving is one player getting an MRI, and Bowles volunteered Jamel Dean (groin/hip) and Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) will get the test, as well.

Maybe Joe is a prisoner of the moment, but it seems rare to have so many injuries to so many players through four games. And a lot of the injuries are happening to the big uglies in the trenches.

If Gaines is gone for a significant amount of time, that would mean four linemen (Cody Mauch, Luke Goedeke, Calijah Kancey and perhaps Gaines) losing a chunk of time, or worse, to injuries.

No one can top the Bucs training and conditioning plans. Best on the planet.

Bucs practice squad is the NFL fave for players.

What is worse than bad luck? That’s what we have…

  4. D-Rome Says:

This is the most injured Buc team I can remember in recent memory.

  5. Neal Cooter Says:

The Cooter family has been sitting out on the porch this afternoon discussing all the comments on this site, Mrs Cooter is amazed that this many people do not work and have time to discuss football on a Monday morning/ afternoon. The Cooter family believes that the Bucs will not play well in Seattle and to take the points, Bucs plus 4 and the under on 46 points

  6. Josh Says:

Thor Griffith is essentially Greg Gaines Jr. when you look at the numbers. Based on his college production and measurables, he absolutely deserves a spot on a practice squad. He didn’t make the team in Seattle, but through four weeks, their defensive line has looked really stout — maybe that’s why he didn’t stick up there. Still, he’s a player worth developing.

And honestly, right now, we just need warm bodies. With all the injuries piling up, I think he deserves a shot. But hey — what do I know?

That brings me to a bigger concern: how are we not questioning the strength and conditioning program, nutrition, or even the way the team practices?

I know football is a violent sport, but when you’re losing 5–6 players *every single week*, that’s not just bad luck — it’s a pattern. It’s too easy to say everyone is just “injury prone.” At some point, you have to look deeper. There’s clearly something systemic going on, and it needs to be addressed. Again not pointing fingers just saying at this point questions need to be asked….

When you line up Thor Griffith next to Greg Gaines, the similarities are hard to ignore. Thor measured in at 6’2″, 320 lbs and posted freakish numbers — 45 reps on the bench, a 4.95 40-yard dash, and a 1.65 10-yard split — all while racking up over 150 tackles, 39.5 tackles for loss, and 16.5 sacks between Harvard and Louisville. Gaines, at 6’1″, 312 lbs, came out of Washington with similar size and was a 4th-round pick in 2019. He’s carved out a solid NFL career as a rotational defensive tackle with 13.5 sacks and 160+ tackles to date. If Gaines can stick in the league, there’s no reason Griffith shouldn’t get at least a shot — especially with the injury situation being what it is right now at least bring him in for a tryout like why not…

Bucs just need bodies at this point…

  7. Christopher Schiefen Says:

It’s lack of preseason. We play flag football till week one, body can’t handle the jump

I’m with you on this, Mr. Cooter.

  9. BucU Says:

The brittle Buccaneers strikes again. Jamal Dean speaks for itself. He’s an injury just itching to happen. Even more disappointing is Morrison. He’s literally been healthy for about 1 week since he walked into the door for the first time.
Absolute injury prone just like Kancey. Then sprinkle in Dennis who just plays like he’s injured. This team is Charmin soft. This is no SB caliber team. That’s laughable. I expect them to be 3-4 in a couple of weeks.

  10. Saskbucs Says:

That’s starting to seem like a culprit forsure Christopher.

    Cupcakes camps aren’t cutting it.

Here’s an idea, stop the year round training. Guys never used to do that in any major sport. Season ends, you take a month to 6 weeks off. Not completely and let yourself go but let the body relax and heal. Then ramp up the training and go banging in August in padded camp practices.

  11. heyjude Says:

Bucky played hard yesterday. I was afraid he was injured. All three guys getting an MRI is okay, best way to find out what’s going on. Could be nothing or something while playing it safe. Taking care of our team!

It seems the football Gods do not favor the Bucs this year. I know we look for guys that Love football, maybe we should also look for guys who are not made of glass.

  19. Tom Says:

#44 get ready Tucker…Bucky gets some rest.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Thanks NFLPA, all those soft practices are doing exactly what you want – getting guys hurt and expanding the number of people paying dues.

  21. Les Says:

There pretty much done at this point .FIRE THE HEALTH STAFF CONDITIONING SUCKS .WHY DONT WE HAVE A EXERSISE BIKE LON THE SIDE LINE WITH ALL THESE HAMSTRING INJURIES ? THIS ALL STARTED WITH BIG RED AND HAS GONE DOWN HILL SINCE . EVERYBODY HAS INJURIES BUT THE BUCS ARE ONE OF THE WORST. SEASON IS IN THE TOILET NOW ! HERE COME THE FALCONS WHO LOOKED GOOD ! REALLY SAD ,SUCH HIGH HOPES ! 😡😡

  22. ballwasher61 Says:

Rod and the rest of you are 100% right, the CBA is getting guys hurt. I’m a fan of 3 pre season games or maybe no pre season with more scrimmages but the way things are now you just can’t start those fast twitch fibers in a rush, it needs a build up. Most of these injuries are to major muscles in the body, with the guys in the trenches having their arms pulled all different ways no wonder the pec’s are getting torn. Some of it is just plain bad luck, being in the wrong position at the wrong time, that happens. But hamstrings and quads? Calves? Even the best have those happen but man this is ridiculous.

  23. Todd Says:

Ndamakong Suh is in shape and ready to go-CALL HIM

  24. Defense Rules Says:

Reality is that Bucs have played 2 games in intense heat in 2 weeks. It took a toll on the Jets as we could all see, and yesterday it took a toll on the Eagles, especially in the 2nd half. And a big part of our problem is that we don’t have all that much depth, so our starters are playing more than they should. And I think it’s costing us.

Yesterday for example. Bucs had 6 on offense (our OLine & Baker) play 100% snaps (72 yesterday). We had 2 on defense (LVD & McCollum) play 100% snaps (57 yesterday).

But then look at how many played 75%-100% snaps: 3 more on offense & 4 more on defense.

And then how many played 50%-74% snaps: 2 more on offense & 6 more on defense. So that’s 11 on offense & 12 on defense playing more than 50% snaps, with most of those playing over 75% snaps.

On super-hot days like yesterday, too many snaps just seems like an open invitation injuries like groin pulls, hamstring pulls, cramps, etc.

  25. de bucs fan Says:

Is it a coincidence that the year health maniac Tom Brady was in house was a healthy (and successful) year for the team?

  26. Baking with Grizz Says:

    Buc Luck?!? = 3-1

    I’ll take that every quarter!!

We can finish at 12-5 or 13-4.

    LFG!!!!

  27. Mac Says:

Bucs under Bowles always have a 4 game skid and I expect nothing different this season. Seattle SF and Lions are all likely Ls especially with all these injuries. Could be staring at 3-4. Yikes.

  28. Oxycondomns Says:

    @de bucs fan

exactly. bucs need to hire someone like bradys ex trainer. the mentality towards fitness is what made brady the goat

  29. Woodman Says:

Might lose to Seattle or Lions but we ain’t losing to 49’s they are more bang up than we are?

  30. Kenton Smith Says:

If the Jets can beat the Dolphins tonight the record of our competitors will be 8-8. Besides the Jets, who we should have beaten worse, we have had far from a cupcake schedule. Atlanta and Houston on the road early were tough, physical games. Then as DR points out, 2 games in the heat. We left it all on the field Sunday and I could see the entire offense was worn out that last drive or two. In my figuring we can easily win 14 games and be the top seed in the NFC. We ain’t seen nothing yet but it sure does hurt to lose. Doesn’t it? It made me so mad I wanted Bowles to walk in Monday morning and fire the special teams coach. And the punter too! I was better when I got up this morning but that doesn’t mean I slept well!

  31. #99 the big fella Says:

Cooter family is a bunch of hillbillies with no teeth. Still wearing overalls and haven’t bathed in months. Go away you troll

  32. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Maybe Joe is a prisoner of the moment, but it seems rare to have so many injuries to so many players through four games. And a lot of the injuries are happening to the big uglies in the trenches.“

Injuries are happening everywhere no matter what climate they’re in or level of the game they’re playing. Players are bigger, stronger, faster, and more fine tuned than at any point before.

Bucky being banged up doesn’t shock me, he got lit up on that one check down and boy genius still kept calling his number for pummeling.

Don’t think there’s an administrative decision that makes it better, anybody that knows or has been around the game know water is wet, and players playing football get injured. That’s why every team around the league is allowed to have a determined amount of depth at positions of their choosing.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Again, go listen to former players talk about how bad they think this current system is with the limited practices and lack of hitting. They’re the ones saying these soft practices, and lack of practice, is what is getting guys hurt. They might be in great physical shape, but they’re not in football shape, and going from 0 to 100 is what is getting guys hurt. Listen to Ronde talk on this – he’s a guy who never missed a game due to injury over an incredibly long career, and he said he’d have never listened to coaches who told him not to play in the preseason, or not to practice because he’s a vet or his hand is broke, etc. So if players now this, why is it still being done? Who is lobbying for it, and why? It’s not about players health since it’s clear that more and more guys are getting injured – and the evidence shows absolutely there are not less injuries as they promised when they started limiting practice.

  34. Beeej Says:

PRETTY sure Brady was never in danger of wrecking a hammy

  35. orlbucfan Says:

This is just beyond nuts with what the Bucs are dealing with. Go back and look at that Jets joke. All the calls against Tampa and the Bucs won. No way in this one as the better team won. Screw Methusaleh as in whoever. I’m over that history. Joe, this is serious and not related to Bucs. Something is going down with your posts. Not good.

  36. Herdofem Says:

The field looked bad yesterday. Players were slipping and sliding. You could the the sod lines between the hash marks. I didn’t see that on any other fields yesterday.
