Josh Grizzard: Rachaad White Is A Grimy Player

September 19th, 2025

Team guy.

The term “grimy” is good in football. That often means a player will be happy to do the dirty work to help the team win.

In that respect, Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard lauded Rachaad White.

Joe didn’t think much of White as griby, but White is a willing blocker, meaning he has no issue sticking his nose into the ribs of an incoming pass rusher.

White did so many grimy things to help the Bucs win Monday in Houston that there was plenty of tape to highlight.

“I don’t know what kind of love he gets outside the building,” Grizzard began yesterday at One Buc Palace. “I know in the building, when we have our meetings and we show those kind of plays” to the team.

The play that sticks out was when Mayfield dropped a ball, just flat out lost control, and White dove to recover it and in the process took a nasty helmet to the ribs.

It looked as if White was done for the night. Hardly.

Grizzard singled out a block White threw to help spring Mike Evans in the red zone; White had to cover a lot of ground to throw the block during the Bucs’ two-minute drill.

“He’s a really good pass blocker, and the time he puts in during our pass-protection meeting and then being able to take that to the field and take on whether it’s linebackers or fitting up on a D-lineman who might have him by 80 pounds – he’s still selfless on that,” Grizzard said.

“He played one hell of a game.”

Joe joked on Twitter a couple of times that White played as if he’s in a contract year — which he is. The Bucs are going to have to pony up for a lot of good players in the next two years (they already have with Luke Goedeke and Zyon McCollum).

Joe doesn’t know if the Bucs have money budgeted for a running back who will turn 27 in January — the Bucs are skittish of running backs who are pushing 29 — but it sure would be nice if White could stick around a year or perhaps two more provided the price is right.

Pay him 3-8m a year for 2 years. It seems to be the going rate for backups

  2. MJ Says:

Rachaad is an excellent team player, stoked we have him, he’s like JMac he just always produces!! it was not his fault Canales did not know how to use him in the run game in 23′

  3. Joe Sea Says:

Someone’s opinion on R White is how you spot ball knowledge

  4. Allen Lofton Says:

White would have to be willing to take a home discount to stay with the Bucs. Is he willing, we don’t know, but running backs are abundant and we have Bucky and Tucker for a couple of more years.

  5. Aqualung Says:

Ya, Tucker the edge punt protector is a real peach. He can’t block. Rachaad and Bucky can. Given the current state of the Bucs offensive line, Tucker might as well be inactive. We don’t need yet another matador out there trying to get Baker killed.

  6. ReeeBarrr Says:

White is a valuable piece, does a lot. I’d like the Bucs to keep him in the roster in coming seasons

  7. Yall don't get it Says:

White was throwing his body around blocking with reckless abandon on that last drive. It was nice to see.

  8. Cometowin2 Says:

He has what takes to be the top third down running back in the league.

  9. BuckyBuc Says:

he deserves a extension here if possible, valuable 2nd string RB that can sub in for Bucky.

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

It’s been really cool to see his game mature & develop. Most RB’s peak in years 1-3 vs continuing to get better like this.

I placed a bet this morning on his rushing/receiving yards going over 33.5 when going through the hard rock game lines and finding my favorite player props. Would think he’d get like 8-10 touches in a game like this where we are beat up on O-line and need to lean on the run game / short passes / screens/etc.

  11. PSL Bob Says:

He knows the system and seems to be improving as a runner with each passing year. Give him a 2-yr contract and then draft a RB next year to replace Tucker.

  12. Baking with Grizz Says:

Williams our RB from LSU can replace Tucker if need be.

  13. Baking with Grizz Says:

    Williams can block.

  14. Kenton Smith Says:

    Rachaad White is a stud.

  15. ModHairKen Says:

Play the man. And when he delivers, pay the man.

  16. heyjude Says:

All in on Rachaad. This could be his best season yet.

  17. Ateonetree Says:

R.White should be converted into in a Debo Samuel type role. He’s a 220 pound rb with hands who is nasty in space.

  18. Stpetematt Says:

    He’s definitely loaded with toughness.

  19. Bucs And Them Says:

Rachaad White is Buccaneer guy through and through. You don’t let players like him walk. He & Bucky are tight and one helluva 1-2 punch. He’s a team player and a real ‘dawg’. Hope he is with us for a good while. If he & Bucky stay healthy, they’re as good as any RB tandem in the league.

  20. jimmy Says:

omg whats with the love fest. he will be gone soon. they arent going to pay up for him (famous last words).

  21. teacherman Says:

    Rashad White is a freak.

We are so lucky to have him!

He makes scoring touchdowns look easy!

He really deserved the game ball against the Texans.

  22. Jmarkbuc Says:

Grizz better have the screen game ready this weekend

  23. Boomer Says:

Great to see the young man shine, especially after Bucky got all the attention last year. He’s a good solid player, and much needed in our backfield.

  24. GoneGator Says:

RW was fantastic Monday night. Nice to see Grizz utilizing him as more than a blocker or a decoy. We NEED him….. Especially with the WR injuries.

Bucky and Chaad are better together. No reason to run Bucky into the ground.

  25. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

White had a great game! Glad we have him. I’ve called him RB #3. Not any more. Best game as a Buc! Way to go Rashad – and thank you Sir!

  26. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I say start him against NYJ, there’s next to no fall off in talent between he and in fact you’ll be getting Bakers’ best pass protector in the RB room the chance to do that and kickstart the run game.

One hand washes the other, but you need both to wash your face.

  27. BigPoppaBuc Says:

    Can he play tackle?

  28. orlbucfan Says:

Well, well, well. I’ve been a fan who has watched what Licht considers in signing players. Human character and football versatility. White is going into his 3rd season as a starter. He ‘s a RB who is dangerous as a receiver, and blocker. He sure helped Baker out MN. That DLine Houston has is lethal. Irving is following him and so is Tucker watching on the sidelines. Irving is the stronger runner, but he also is learning how to receive a catch. Plus he’s watching out for Bake when he can. IF Grizzard gets what’s happening here, he will blow the Jets out of Tampa Bay and the GOM. Bowles also remembers his days with that pitiful franchise. That’s a great way to get even. Wish I could be there, but I’ll be listening on BR (I hope).

  29. St.Pete Salty Buc Says:

Rachaad has gotten better each year. Looks real good so far this year. I don’t want to see him leave after the season. All around awesome football player.

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

Have we not been scarred enough by the injury bug. Half the WR’s corps not on the field this Sunday! An OL that was the strength of the team prior to the season is now so wrecked by the injury bug they have become the weak link of what was to be a great offense.

Bucky and White are two of the strengths. They are also pretty complimentary and play well together. The both like each other and form an incredible 1-2 punch. But what are the odds an NFL RB might get injured eh?

  31. Buctoothbucky Says:

What in the world am I reading. I can’t believe we are talking about some guy named R. WHITE that we drafted some 3 years ago. Is this the same R. WHITE that mostly everybody was talking about we should trade. What is this blasphemy. I can’t believe the audacity to bring up the name R. WHITE. We have better rb’s on this team according to the past comments. Why are we even mentioning his name on this website. This is total mayhem. I will not listen to this crap.🗨🙉
