Injury Concern For Zyon McCollum

September 10th, 2025

Perhaps Graham Barton can play cornerback, too?

It sounds like the Bucs might be thinking about starting a rookie at outside cornerback on Monday night in Houston, Joe believes. Head coach/defensive coordiantor Todd Bowles said yesterday that starting big-money corner Zyon McCollum has an injury concern.

“I’m hoping [rookie Benjamin] Morrison is back this week, ” Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network, referring to his rookie cornerback. “If Morrison is back this week, that could help us out from a corner standpoint and especially since Zyon was a little nicked up. So we’ll have the corner situation chiseled out. The safety situation, we’ll just see when [Christian Izien] comes back.”

McCollum left Sunday’s game injured but returned quickly.

The first official Bucs injury report of this week will be released Thursday afternoon. It’s usually revealed on Wednesday, but its release is pushed back a day when a team plays on a Monday.

Joe’s not betting against McCollum. Growing up in the Houston market, McCollum is no doubt extra hungry to be on the field. He didn’t miss a game last season.

Crap! Hope this isn’t another @@@@@@ sign. I also hope Izien is getting in football shape. He is a headhunter.

He left the game and then came back, what’s the issue?

    Uh oh!

  6. KABucs Says:

It’s probably something minor that will be fine by next weekend.
If not, and he misses the game, they’ll have to figure it out.
    Maybe Morrison is ready.

**Please note the above mentioned injury will hereby be recognized as the first excuse of the season to rationalize another miserable Bowls defensive coaching fail.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Zyon did not look good in his 1st outing. Hope he is better week 2.

ZYON BATTLED! THE GAME WITHIN THE GAME
Zyon drew Drake London practically all game. That’s a HUGE task.

Zyon was making Drake work. In the 4th quarter, London hit Zyon with a hard forearm to the chest on a run play. The shot was very Evans/Lattimore-ish. Zyon came back a play or two later and drove Drake hard into the ground causing a pass breakup. Drake went out of the game with a shoulder. Drake is now out with an injury this week. Those two went at it.

Hopefully the extra day off gives Zyon a chance to heal.

Zion will be playing Mon night….dude’s a baller….and only getting better

CJ Stroud hasn’t had a 300 yard game since week 4 of last year, and only threw for more than 2 TDs once last year, in week 6.

You know he is licking his chops to play Bowles defense again.

  12. Pickgrin Says:

“Injury” and “a little nicked up” are two completely different things.

Zyon has proven to be extremely reliable over the last 2 years. He doesn’t miss games and he doesn’t leave games because of “a little nick” – unlike Dean who misses/leaves games multiple times every single year he’s been in the NFL.

Hopefully Morrison can get fully healthy and start getting some live snaps to help get him ready for the inevitable time (probably sooner than later) that he will be thrust into the starting role because Dean is unable to play.

  13. Coburn Says:

Doesn’t sound to me like zyok is expected to sit out. Sounds more like he’s saying it’s just good to have another outside guy just in case

I am starting to feel as though Todd is just making gentle hints of possible injuries for Houston to be caught off guard. He seems a little sneakier these days and he used time outs in the last game. Out of the ordinary for him. I like it though. Thinking Zyon will be okay. Rest, rehab, ice, heat.
