Emeka Egbuka Lost Ball In The Lights On Game-Winning Catch

September 11th, 2025

Receiver Emeka Egbuka.

Joe truly hopes Emeka Egbuka is in the locker room today when the doors are flung open for the local pen and mic club because Joe has a couple of questions.

Mike Evans told Joe in the locker room after the game that Egubka called his own shot on the play that turned into the winning score last Sunday, his 25-yard catch from Baker Mayfield. That’s cool enough. But the legend grows.

It seems on that very pass, Egbuka lost the ball briefly in the lights of the Dixie Chicks’ birdcage, Egbuka told the Buccaneers’ social media team.

It may have helped that Egbuka had played in the Dixie Chicks’ birdcage in college and had two of his better games, both on a major stage.

He was on the Ohio State squad that lost to Georgia 42-41 in the college semifinals on New Year’s Eve 2022. Then in January, Ohio State beat Notre Dame there 34-23 to win the national title.

Egbuka tore up the Bulldogs defense in the Peach Bowl on that New Year’s Eve night to close out 2022. Egbuka had a game-high eight catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. In the national championship, Egubka had six catches for 64 yards.

So perhaps Egbuka was already used to the dome lights when the Bucs played the Dixie Chicks last Sunday. We know he was comfortable on the big stage.

Time to turn our attention to week 2
Joe writes about what Joe finds interesting regardless of what day it is or what’s happened or is happening nexst. Also, for a lot of busy readers, they’re only here a couple of times per week.–Joe

Awe-inspiring video!. Thank you so much for sharing.

Buka comes across as humble, articulate, and all about playing football. The lighting reference says a lot about his drive too. Not missing anything and carrying on. Been rooting for him, and am so happy he is with the Bucs and part of the duo with Mike Evans. Mike being one of the best. Once Godwin comes back we have a trifecta plus more. Go Bucs!

  3. BuccaDAWG Says:

Yep, I recall the DAWGS vs tosu Buka caught alot of balls . To bad he didn’t kick too. Good move by Litche Glad hes a BUC.

  4. Truth be Told Says:

This guy is a stud wide receiver, and we are lucky to have him for the next 10 years to go with a franchise quarterback.

    Great job Joe!

He is our future. He only needed training camp to become a vet. His mindset is no longer of a rookie.

    Thank you Licht!

    Go Bucs!!!

  6. Oscar Says:

I think all teams were aware of Emeka’s skills as a football player. But it’s his intangibles that magnifies his value. Credit to the GM for having the insight to understand that character matters when building a football team just like it does in any area of life.

  7. BucYou Says:

Mek doesn’t sound like a rookie. He sounds like a 10 year vet, and plays like one too. He’s better than advertised. Way better than Hunter.

  8. Hodad Says:

If Bowles had any sense he would’ve been practicing in the Glazer shed for the last month preparing for the first two road games indoors under the lights. He has no common sense.

  9. Bartow Buc Says:

It’s very rare that a rookie receiver steps in to the NFL and makes this kind of debut !! I can’t imagine how good Egbuka will be if he stays healthy !! This Buccaneer offense is going to be unstoppable once they get going !!

Hopefully we put the Texans away on Monday Night Football!!

    Go Bucs !!

  10. Bartow Buc Says:

Egbuka acts like he’s been playing for years !!

    Go Bucs !!

The kid acts like an instant pro.

The media is really talking him up, and he’s rolling with it. No big head so far.

    I like it.

That said…it was one game. He still has plenty to prove. But if he keeps this up, Godwin is not starting this year…I never thought Godwin was as good as others did. At times he was solid…and at others he wasn’t.

I think it’s already time to buy an Egbuka jersey. Insane start to his career

    Man this dude is GOOD

  14. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

The throw by Baker was equally as great or even better than the catch.

Great catch for sure, especially after losing it in the lights, but all Mek had to do was stick his hands up and the ball was delivered to them absolutely perfectly.

That was one of the best throws you will ever see from a QB, and under duress too.

“Dixie Chicks’ birdcage…”–still laffin’. One of your better ones, Joe. I do miss the old Fulton County Stadium. EE2 really appreciates the camaraderie of the entire Bucs team, and they have totally embraced him. Player/human character is so important. I’m glad Tony Dungy really got it started here, and emphasized it. It was a great catch, but a brilliant abfab throw by Bake. The Falcon DB couldn’t defend it any better than he did. On to Houston, and hopefully 2-0.

  16. Bartow Buc Says:

Great throw(s) by Baker to Egbuka no doubt. Just wish he could have dropped that throw in there to Cam Brate !! That would’ve been 6 for sure.

    Go Bucs !!

  17. Davyboy Says:

Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, Sterling Shepard, Jalen McMillan & Bucky Irving. Try and defend that on 3rd and long!!!

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Cam Brate is retired
