“Crazy Lunatic” Sterling Shepard

September 21st, 2025

Veteran receiver Sterling Shepard certainly isn’t the MVP of the Bucs offense, but he might be the most underappreciated cog.

Shepard hauled in 4 catches for 80 yards today and again came up big on third down. He’s caught 11 of 15 targets this season and a whopping nine have been for first downs.

He’s done everything the Bucs have asked and, at 32 years old, Baker Mayfield showed love to his college teammate after today’s thrilling comeback win.

“Shep, just old reliable. He’s my crazy lunatic that I continue to lean on,” Mayfield said. “He continues to find ways to win in man coverage and be there in clutch moments for us.”

Yes, Shepard is known for his sideline and on-field energy. He’s always juiced and he jacks up teammates. But far more important to Joe, Shepard is producing. And this year it’s coming without the mind-numbing penalties.

At this pace, Shepard is on track for 867 yards receiving on 62 catches.

We don’t win today without him. Too bad his part time head coach is such a complete disaster.

Can we extend Baker now and save some $$ for pass rush help? Or o-line help. Go Bucs, gritty win.

  16. Steven007 Says:

Aqua, don’t worry, the Joe’s will post a few more articles where your soul comment will be to complain about the head coach of a 3-0 football team. Yeah, I get it, we all do, and I suppose it makes you feel good to parrot the same line repeatedly. But Todd’s not going anywhere, nor should he when we’re leading the division by two games. And we haven’t even played a complete game yet. But please feel free to cry.

  17. exBrowns02 Says:

Sterling’s performance today was key, especially with drops from Mike (2) and Emeka (1). It takes a whole team effort to win in this league and the Bucs are that kind of team.

Next week is going to be a challenge. I’m glad that they’re home.

    Go Bucs!

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

Shep will get plenty of opportunities next week as well with ME nursing another hammy.

Perhaps he’ll get opportunities, not certain with the OL out there.

Now notice I’m not going after Carberry, or Griz. They were working with 1 1/2 hands tied behind their backs.

Lose an All Pro LT…the most important position…and then the entire right side with Mauch and Goeddeke out…That’s 3 of the top 4 OL on the team and their replacements are just physically not up to it. Don’t question their heart or effort, they simply do not have the strength, speed, and skill set to hold up against NFL linemen.

    ++++

Jeffrey, Bucs fans don’t want that fight with our history.

  20. PSL Bon Says:

He played a grest game today! Stepped up big!

  21. Aqualung Says:

Even a mildly incompetent head coach buttons that win up after going ahead 3 scores. The only way you have a chance to lose is by doing exactly what our half half “coich” did. You can’t write the script any more clearly. “How to blow 3 score leads by playing bend over then break defense.”

And the epilogue – “Ignore the epic ineptitude that are the special teams and refuse to take or hold anyone else accountable. “

Your 3-0 is thanks to Baker, in spite of fraudface.

  22. Jeff and Jack's grandpa Says:

And to think he’d be on the ps if not for all the injuries

  23. GoneGator Says:

    @aqualung
Let me guess dipshlt, you have a comment in every thread/article criticizing Todd.
What a whiny little bitch – crying every single day about a man doing a hell of a job while you sit drunk in your room thinking of ways to be a douche. 🤡

  24. Vanessa Anne Says:

Shep has really shown his mettle this year.

He flashed last year… it was the crazy, silly penalties he got hit with.

That’s not happening this year, and he’s been real clutch for us.

It’s a real case of quality over quantity with him this year. He’s making plays (especially first downs) when we need them.

  25. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

I know our Oline is decimated, but our run game scheme/playcalling is atrocious and predictable.

Looks we will be a Bottom-10 rushing team again this year.

Why do we hand it off to the middle on 1st downs when everyone knows we’re about to do that? Stupid on Grizz’s part. Yale man, shmale man. I’m not impressed.

  26. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Shep is one of my favorite, Bucs. Absolute gamer/clutch stud of a player

  27. Ed Says:

    Good third down option.

  28. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

Shep seems to have his temper a little more under control as well.

  29. FlumundaCheese Says:

I was not a fan of Shepherd after last year. Every time he did something positive, he’d kill a drive with a dumb penalty. Not the case this year, he’s been great so far. I hope it continues.

  30. ballwasher61 Says:

How the Pharq do coach’s even play a game on the field dude? I swore I would quit reading ignorant posts, sad to say I lost. Aren’t you even the least bit embarrassed about saying the same lame s*** over and over again? This must be a trolls way of sporting some hemlock to get a “bloom”. If that’s what makes anyone feel good then hey go tool yourselves over your 1990’s Kevin Bacon wall posters and leave the real world to the grown ups. Social media = the Great Social Fumunda Cheese Apocalypse we now see. No offense to you Flumunda Cheese the poster. Didn’t see that until I typed it out, LOL

  31. Swanny Says:

Joe, there was a racist on here last year, whom was mocking ethnic dialects… he disappeared shortly after I called him out…he’s exposed himself this year, under a different handle…time to get rid of him…I think…

I do believe we are the only team in the NFL with 3 straight 100 yard rushing
So I’m pretty sure that is a knee jerk reaction.
