Chris Long Stands Firm On Tampa Bay Super Bowl Pick

September 11th, 2025

Two-time Super Bowl-winning defensive end Chris Long is one of the more Bucs-friendly guys in the national media.

Former Bucs defensive tackle Beau Allen is a fill-in host on Long’s popular Green Light podcast, and Long seems fully appreciative of the Bucs’ culture and Baker Mayfield. It also helps that the Bucs have owned Long’s beloved Eagles over the past handful of years.

Regardless, the reasoned and seasoned Long (when he’s not making wagering suggestions) picked the Bucs to get to the Super Bowl. And Long is not waffling after a Week 1 win for Tampa Bay at Atlanta.

A guest on The Rich Eisen Show this week (Joe listens on the SiriusXM app), Long backed up his Bucs pick.

“I just think they quietly got so much better,” Long said. “Not only that, they’ve kind of owned the matchup with Philly, which pains me to say. But like, historically, recent history, they’ve owned that matchup.”

Long went on to talk about how the Bucs’ long list of injuries was overlooked last year, and how he thinks the return to form of Antoine Winfield Jr. is a massive difference-maker. He also raved about the defensive line and the addition of Haason Reddick, who had a critical red zone sack on Sunday in Atlanta.

Long also praised the new cornerbacks depth and the smart drafting of Emeka Egbuka.

“Again, Tampa’s one of those like true programs,” Long said. “Jason Licht does a fantastic job. So I think last year they were closer than people thought but they weren’t healthy. And then this offseason they’ve filled a lot of the holes.”

In the mind of Long, the Bucs winning in Atlanta while playing rusty and messy is a great sign against an Atlanta team he believes has improved.

    Great job Chris

  2. Upstate NY BUC Says:

I agree Chris!! I put $500 on Tampa to win it all!! 14K payout… Joe’s buy you some drinks if we win it, I’m not a big gambler, I have that feeling though! Go Bucs!!

  3. GoneGator Says:

Offense needs to gel and D needs to stay healthy but why not us? We have the talent and the coaching !

    Lfg Bucs 🏈

    LFG Bucs

  5. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

I feel strongly that it IS possible IF we stay relatively healthy and peak at the right time. That’s impossible to predict, of course. But, if our offense is healthy, though, going into the playoffs (including JMac, Godwin, Evans, EE, Otton, Bucky, White, etc.) and our running game is anywhere close to how it was last season, we should be able to put 30 points up against anyone.

  6. Hodad Says:

Looking forward to seeing our competition GB, and Washington battle it out tonight.

Pack and DC matchup should be a dawg fight tonight. If this Bucs team can get some luck and injury immunity, the sky is the limit for this krewe. Win one game at a time is my motto.

  8. Saskbucs Says:

I mean this is the right take. One, many of us here have been saying for awhile and why we don’t wanna accept a 9-8 record first round playoff exit.

It drives me nuts that most people, people paid to talk NFL, don’t understand this.

  9. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

Green Bay Packers is the team to beat.
Bart Starr was 27 years old in 1961, the first Championship
    under Lombardi.
Brett Fare was 27 when he won a Super Bowl.
Aaron Rogers was 27 when he won a Super Bowl.
Jordan Love turns 27 during the season.

  10. Aqualung Says:

Washington has the same team that never punted against Todd, in Tampa, in last year’s playoff embarrassment. Watch that Bucs defense.

Then watch the Packers defense tonight.

The Pack played amazing defense, great scheme, well coached, tackled like they knew how.

Actually don’t watch our feebility after that. The Pack set the standard. We set the bottom 10 percentile.

  11. Bucs Guy Says:

Texans will be a good test.
    1. They are better than they showed against the Rams.
    2. They will open up the playbook after just scoring 9 points.
    3. They are motivated to not start 0-2.
    4. The game is at their place and in the spotlight Monday night.
    5. They’ve owned the Bucs in recent history.

Bucs need to play well to come away with a W.

  12. FrontFour Says:

Green Bay looks like a Super Bowl team. Crushed Detroit. Crushed Redskins. Jordan Love is coming into his own and defense smothered Jordan Daniels and their offense. Only September, but…..

  13. CJBUC Says:

Like all teams, staying healthy is the key. 16 games is a long time and you gotta be a little lucky. I will say this, their depth is the best I’ve seen in a long time

  14. PewterStiffArm Says:

Well, if the Buc’s hang a W in Texas maybe just maybe we can explore the possibilities. Until then, one game at a time. Win the games we should and definitely win at home. We tend to be flat at home way too often for whatever reason. Football is a sport that is extremely hard to project wins and losses. Especially with so many professional players on the team at once.
