“All I Saw Was Green Grass”

September 21st, 2025

Jamel Dean celebrates his pick-six with YaYa Diaby, Elijah Roberts and Zyon McCollum.

Todd Bowles preaches takeaways more than a small-town pastor preaches against sin.

Today, Bowles’ prayers were answered. The biggest of the Bucs’ takeaways today came from an unlikely source: Jamel Dean.

It’s not that Dean is a bad corner. Not at all. The thing is, Dean personifies the old football adage that if defensive backs could catch, they’d be receivers. And Joe firmly believes in that old saying.

Dean had his second pick-six of his career. It turned the game around, giving the Bucs a 20-6 lead with just 17 seconds left in the first half.

As it turned out, as Bowles often says, Dean’s pick-six was the game-winner. The Bucs defense and special teams folded like a tent in the final quarter when the Bucs should have been able to seal the win.

Instead, the Bucs barked and clapped their hands like a trained seal.

So Dean’s pick-six was massive.

Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor stood in the pocket on the right hashmark and felt pressure (!). Then Taylor let loose and fired to the left sideline, right in front of the Bucs’ bench targeting Garrett Wilson.

Instead, Dean stepped in front of Wilson and housed the ball.

“All I saw was green grass in front of me,” Dean said of the pick, which happened along the sideline in front of the Bucs’ bench, the right side of the defense.

“But honestly, I was worried about catching the ball.”

As he should.

Bowles has joked about Dean after picking off passes in practice. He once said after a Dean interception that he should have Dean drug tested.

So today, Dean had the Bucs’ first interception of the year, arare takeaway. An even more scarce pick-six for Dean.

And the Bucs likely would not have won without it.

It’d be nice if baker would stop overthrowing receivers

  2. Ryan number 1 bucs fan Says:

Hey Joe call out the worst refs in the league

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Or it would be even nicer if the receivers would just catch a catchable ball

  4. Rusty Shackleford Says:

Speaking of Church, that Memorial Service for Charlie Kirk is really something else.

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Let’s all just be honest Here People…… jamel dean has not lived up to his contract

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Don’t bring up politics in here. This is sports

  7. Aqualung Says:

And that should’ve been ballgame. But when you’re coached by a dude who has proven he can turn a slam dunk into a turd, it wasn’t.

Jason, or BA – someone needs to force some accountability on this fraudulent excuse for tow coaches in one.

  8. Rusty Shackleford Says:

    lol

  9. Rusty Shackleford Says:

Still need an edge rusher. Diaby, Reddick, etc… I don’t care. Just need one.

  10. 813bucboi Says:

Deans been playing good IMO….we’re 3&0 when he suits up and he took a pay cut…I’ll take it lol

    GO BUCS

  11. Hammerhead Says:

Will be more nicer when o-line is more better.

  12. Rusty Shackleford Says:

    Klein had a horrible day.

  13. BillMFl Says:

Sheesh the Bucs can’t hold a big lead or any lead for that matter. Blowing big leads and making a life saving wins as the clock runs out is sure a lousy way to get 3-0. A win is a win is a win I know. But was the Bucs “strength” defense than almost lost the game!!! Fooling king crazy!!!

  14. BucYou Says:

I was happy to see this for Dean. He had a second one later that was called back on a phantom penalty too.

This secondary is doing everything they’re asked of right now.

  15. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ 813bucboi

    Good point!!!!

  16. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Bucs fans celebrating these wins the last 3 weeks realize how “BAD” the bucs have played as a football team…

We could easily be 0-3 instead of 3-0…………

  17. ModHairKen Says:

I have been a critic. Great play, Mr. Dean.

  18. SmokyMountainBucsFan Says:

No Coach the game winner was the field goal at the end. Other than the blocked kick, which he can’t block for himself, he was solid today! GO BUCS

  19. HC Grover Says:

Here he comes to save the day!!

  20. Jim in AR Says:

Given the injuries, I’ll take 3-0. Yes, the defense looked soft in the 4th quarter, but it did give up just one TD in the first 3 quarters.

  21. Hammerhead Says:

Dean, so far, is Might Mouse.
    H
Here he comes to save the day.

  22. Cybersecurity_intern Says:

Actually any score in this game was the one that decided the game. So this was just another score. Yes we know you are Dean fanboy

  23. Steven007 Says:

Aqua, don’t worry, the Joe’s will post a few more articles where your soul comment will be to complain about the head coach of a 3-0 football team. Yeah, I get it, we all do, and I suppose it makes you feel good to parrot the same line repeatedly. But Todd’s not going anywhere, nor should he when we’re leading the division by two games. And we haven’t even played a complete game yet. But please feel free to cry.

  24. SmokyMountainBucsFan Says:

Anthem you got Baker over throwing receivers and then receivers not catching catchable balls. GO BUCS!

  25. Coburn Says:

Who knows in all honesty. .. maybe they don’t play prevent defense so early I’d they’re not up as much. The pick 6 certainly didn’t hurt though

  26. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Hammerhead

More like Mickey Mouse with the big gloves..I’m thankful he caught it.

  27. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Fair is fair.

Good on Jamel for getting a pick-six.

I’ve been pretty critical of him in the past.

But, that was very good heads-up football on his part.

You could make the argument he had two INTs today… that second one got called back due to a penalty he had no control over.

    Good for Jamel!

  28. SenileSenior Says:

Mighty Mouse vs Superman. That I would like to see. Maybe they will make THE movie about it.

Now back to football. “Bucs win! Bucs win! Bucs win!” I never get tired of echoing that.

  29. ir8oldman Says:

It was hilarious to see Vita playing the “Aura Farming Kid” on that TD Celebration.
(Google it or TikTok it if you don’t know).

We won the game, yet some supposed fans here want to be the worst examples in history. Aquaturd has no coherent thought other than Fire Bowles.

Others are moaning how we should be 0-3. Ffs you guys must be a hoot to live around… Try enjoying a win and who tf cares if we didn’t outscore them by 30 points…

  30. BigBucsFan Says:

Screw all the BS Dean made a hell of a play today we are three and O, let’s support our team like it. we need Wirf, and more to come back for the eagles next week let’s f***ing go Tampa, stand up Buc Nation!

  31. Cleanhouse Says:

Bowles called a soft D and really just about blew the game. Terrible

  32. #1bucsfan Says:

@JOE please can you explain why the EE play wasn’t reviewed. Bowles couldn’t thro the challenge flat with it under 2 min. That was a catch. Up satiates is supposed to review catches like that hence not allowing coaches to challenge it. Bunch of BS

  33. Eckwood Says:

McCollum had a rough day ….. look like he caught the new contract disease

  34. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Hey Smoky Mountain do the math. 29-7=22. Jets27 Bucs22 so yes that was the game winner

Oldman instead of whining about the opinions of others why not go to other forums so you can read fans who don’t complain. Last time I checked this is America jack and Buc fans have the right to complain even if we win by 30. Don’t tell us how to think. You dudes are the 2nd most irritating people next to the fanboi male cheer leaders up here.
