Twinning Exercise For Baker Mayfield

August 2nd, 2025

Joe talked to some of the most powerful people at One Buc Palace about an on-field shenanigan at practice today, including Baker Mayfield and Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht.

It turns out that Baker Mayfield went out of his way to dress exactly like rookie offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard. Joe’s got the photo above.

Mayfield, with a smile, denied any involvement.

“He copied me,” Mayfield told Joe in an exclusive post-practice interview.

Joe will let fans decide. Grizzard wears the same fit every practice. Mayfield is usually playing, of course, but today he just happened look like his playcaller.  Licht told Joe he would investigate but the GM said he’s sure the twinning was “planned.”

Joe sees this as yet another example of the extraordinary cameraderie at One Buc Palace. Will it lead to wins?

Haaaaang in there, Joe. Quota has to be met in my job too- but real football is almost here!
Joe has no quota. Joe writes about what Joe finds interesting. That’s Joe’s standard. Joe found this noteworthy. Sorry to hear you have a different kind of job. –Joe
Serious article idea/suggestion: back up quarterback. No, not how good Trask is compared to who is available- what’s more interesting to me is the question of style of play. It’s not just the Biucs either you see this across the league- but here (again nothing for or against Trask in particular) on the subject of “twinning” – why is our back up quarterback a classic drop back pocket passer and our starter a quick read and release/ pull it down and create passer? These seem like entirely opposite concepts to plan or prepare for OC wise, never mind being an OL in that offense. Isn’t it better from a strategy standpoint to have someone who mirrors Bakers play?

  7. Hodad Says:

Buc King, please. You sound like a fool.

  8. First Last Says:

Joe, can you confirm that there is any bruising on Mayfield’s hand or are the Bucs trying to evaluate Trask better so they can shop him around lol.
