Todd Bowles Says Tough Cut Day = Good Team

August 23rd, 2025

So the Bucs have to shave their roster from 90 to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon.

No staff likes to wave goodbye to players they’ve been grooming since April, but that’s what will happen at One Buc Palace and across the league.

Todd Bowles spoke on the Buccaneers Radio Network tonight before the Bucs-Bills game and referenced how he’s looking forward to a tough few days — because arguments and debate at the bottom of the roster means you have depth. Easy calls are not a sign of a good team, Bowles said.

Interestingly, Bowles seemed to tip his hand on safety Rashad Wisdom, the second-year man who was with the Bucs last season on the practice squad. Bowles mentioned him in a positive light and noted tonight against Buffalo would be a big game for him.

Well at least there won’t be any suspesne when it comes to Shilo..

  2. ModHairKen Says:

    Sanders just made it easier

  3. David Says:

Injuries are going to play a part as as well as who can stay in the practice squad Without being snatched up.

Tez and Ryan Miller are securing a spot
Unfortunately, Kam Johnson has just dropped two passes, one for a touchdown

  4. First Last Says:

Shilo did not secure his case with that fight. That isn’t the “I’m that man” way. Even Bullock got a shove. Ronde Barber even took note so you know the front office is going to get his opinion on it.

  5. LakelandBuc Says:

A few UDFA should make the final 53, maybe 3-4

  6. BUCSONDECK24 Says:

TBF, IT COULD ALSO MEAN A REALLY REALLY BAD TEAM CIRCA 2011

  7. Hodad Says:

The way these guys are playing tonight cuts got a whole lot easier.

  8. Whatevs Says:

Trask for QB4. Did Todd .500 Bowles say they are keeping 4 QBs on the roster?

Shilo wasn’t totally at fault on this play. Why didn’t they give Davidson a penalty? He was pushing and shoving as well as a face mask on Shilo. It’s almost like some of the opposing players are going after the Sanders kids and setting them up to fail. And then we have the refs too. Not right. It’s a preseason game too.

  10. Fred McNeil Says:

Good “tough cuts” are when you have to decide who is slightly better. After last night Bowles has to decide who is slightly worse. Of all of them I thought the biggest disappointments were Watts, Ramirez, Sanders and quite a few others.

  11. Tim B. Says:

There is no doubt that Kyle Trask should be the backup. He only has gotten to play with backups or worse. If he were to get a chance to play with the starting players he would stand out. He has never been given a real chance to showcase his ability. Teddy Bridgewater has had many years all of which he never looked that good.
