Todd Bowles Has Punter Ecstasy

August 24th, 2025

Veteran newcomer punter Riley Dixon.

As expressed on the Ira Kaufman Podcast weeks ago, Joe’s a little leery of head coach Todd Bowles loving his new free agent punter.

Joe has visions of Bowles collaborating with his new game management guru and feeling better than ever about punting.

Simply put, Joe trembles and twitches at the thought of any defense-first head coach having a great punter.

Riley Dixon is the new Bucs punter, a big-money free agent signed this offseason. He’s a got a big leg and a hearty track record with the Giants and Rams, and two tours with the Broncos. He’s looked like a massive upgrade this preseason and Bowles called him his favorite summer strength today.

“The best feeling I have is that we have a punter,” Bowles said. “And he did a very good job and he was outstanding this summer camp and everything else. And he was really a game changer that really wasn’t talked about. And, you know, I’m happy as hell about him.”

Yeah, Joe likes having a strong punter. And Joe especially likes that Dixon has four NFL completions, three for first downs.

Joe also likes banking on an elite offensive line and big-money weapons to convert on fourth down.

What I don’t like is he won’t be handling kickoffs. With the rule changes Chase will be kicking off. I hope his FG accuracy isn’t affected or his leg strength is zapped.

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

The Punter is important to Todd Bowles, he says a great punter ( Flip the field). So he’s anticipating punting the ball a lot. If the punter is so important, so is the Gunner.

Josh Hayes is our Gunner, I’m waiting to see if he gets cut.

  3. Hawk Says:

After he punts the ball, can he drop into coverage?

  4. Bill in Seminole Says:

His “best feeling” is that we have a punter? I would think that a good punter is someone necessary that you hope never gets on the field.

  5. TanpaBayBucFan Says:

Riley Dixon…….now that even sounds like a punter….

From what I’ve seen….he does his job kicking it high and short of the goal line…but our punt team hasn’t downed the ball like they should.
I think he can kick it out of bounds also……I noted last week one kick that almost went out at the 1.

  6. Irishmist Says:

Yeah, this is like handing a Lamborghini to a reckless 16 year old boy but in reverse.

  7. Jerseybuc Says:

Bowels has no excuse this year. Team is stacked it has depth turtle Todd it’s time nothing less than title game

  8. mj Says:

i remember when every year the bucs best player was the punter Garo…. lol

  9. Esteban85 Says:

Looks like we are finally getting improvement on special teams which has been a glaring issue for years. Return game is looking good and the kicker is one of the best in the league. Now the punter is a stud. I’d much rather have a good punter than a poor punter

  10. Rod Munch Says:

Bowles punting from inside the Bills 40 yard line last night means he’s in regular season form. Sure it’s preseason, who wants to see a long FG try when you can kick a touchback and pickup 18 yards for your defense. Points are so overrated.

  11. Billlbuc Says:

    Fire Bowles…

  12. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Field position, it’s important.

  13. Cometowin2 Says:

Hated the punt from their 39 and hated playing more soft a$$ pass defense. They were more aggressive playing man and getting turnovers when the assistants were calling the defense.

If he’s running the same style of defense this year as last year despite the new talent, I’m going to be pi$$ed!

  14. Hawk Says:

@ mj. You must mean Dave Green, because Garo Yepremian would have been a lousy punter.

  15. Bucswin Says:

Seems kickoff won’t be long booming kicks. It’s more accuracy getting it to drop in the zone so other teams dodn’t start at the 35yl. Shouldn’t hurt Chase, itwill just keep him warmed up during the game. Maybe? Go Bowles!

  16. Couch Fan Says:

    LMAO…

Sometimes the jokes just right themselves…

  17. Couch Fan Says:

    write*

  18. GoneGator Says:

Bowles ain’t getting fired anytime soon…. But y’all go ahead and keep posting “fire him” every time a player or the team is less than perfect 🙄

Considering that we have been flush with $ over the cap for years and have missed the playoffs that makes perfect sense…. And the fact that the assistants and players despise him….OH WAIT, the players love him and he’s made the playoffs every year even while the team was cash strapped ?

Still, I’m sure the fire Todd everyday crowd knows more about what we need than the rest of us 🤔

  19. ballwasher61 Says:

    Garo Yepremian ” I theenk I keek a touchdowwn”

  20. Mobucs Says:

Poor Todd! As he gets questions about contested positions at cutdown time, he tries to avoid controversy by talking about the one position with only one candidate, and he still gets rolled. Or is it trolled? Anyway, I’m glad he has a sense of humor.

  21. Shilo Sanders Says:

Bad take. Super Bowl teams have greatness everywhere… unfortunately I was cut, another bad take

  22. Scotty Mack Says:

Good Lord … this many comments about a punter. post Can’t wait for the season to start!

  23. Fred McNeil Says:

I wonder whatever happened to that punter we. Drafted in the 4th round? He had one good year and then went to pot. Carmada was it?

  24. JimBobBuc Says:

I don’t like Chase doing the kickoffs, let him focus on field goals. Kickoffs could mess him up.

Not to worry, I hear Winn Dixie is hiring, you can still be a world class bag boy like Kurt Warner.

  26. Aqualung Says:

Bowels more and more looks like a random Maroon.
