Todd Bowles Gushes About Emeka Egbuka

August 17th, 2025

Glimpse of the future.

For who watched or who will watch one of the rebroadcasts of last night’s Bucs win over the Steelers in the second worthless preseason game of the summer, viewers will see/ did see what Joe saw every Bucs practice in training camp.

* Bucky Irving catching deep passes.

* Second-team offensive line getting lit up. Just like last night, Kyle Trask, when he practiced behind the second team offensive line, was running for his life at once every set of downs.

* Emeka Egbuka looking like a seasoned pro, not a rookie.

So after last night’s game, Todd Bowles was asked about that sweet touchdown catch Egbuka had from an equally well-placed football by Bucs quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Not a man to offer superlatives about a player, forget a rookie, Bowles couldn’t hold back his smile.

“He plays like he practices; he practices like he plays,” Bowles beamed. “He plays like that. He practices like that. He’s been like that since we drafted him.

“He’s like that every day in practice and it just carries over [to games] for him.”

The Bucs have to sit this guy.

Each summer, Mike Evans has a hamstring injury. It really isn’t training camp unless he has a hammy issue. So far, Evans has avoided that.

Godwin is on the shelf for who knows how long. He still isn’t running (that Joe knows of) after two ankle surgeries. Then last night Jalen McMillan said he sprained his neck. If Evans has his annual summer hamstring injury, then all of a sudden rookie Egbuka will be your No. 1 receiver. To be fair, only once in 11 seasons (2015) has Evans missed a Week 1 game.

  1. Jeffrey Becker Says:

    agreed on all points.

  2. Aqualung Says:

If Egbuka is on the field for even one snap next week, Jason needs to take his “genius” double half coach to the woodshed for a proper performance review.

Enough has been enough for too long, going back to not covering the one dude everyone in the world knew you’d have to cover in the Rams playoff game after Brady heroically led a historic comeback to tie the game. At least that heroism was wasted by Todd.

  3. Obvious Says:

We didn’t have any starters retiring kicks or punts last night did we?

  4. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Good luck denying this kid reps he’ll probably stop short of begging for. I say keep doing what we’ve been doing, let him get his feet wet and take him out after limited snaps.

  5. Hodad Says:

He was my first receiver picked in my fantasy draft last night.

  6. HC Grover Says:

    Plan 9 rocks.

  7. Anyhony Says:

Aqualung still playing the one hit song he has, just like his namesake.

  8. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Watching Bridgewater’s two tds tells me that after 5 years Trask needs to be #3 and Ballzsack needs to be cut. We’ve seen all we need to see or of our qbs. Teddy B simply has too much experience and wins under his belt to be a #3

Obvious, not even sure what you’re trying to say or ask…

What’s CLEAR is few things after last night’s game…..

One : It looks as if Todd is getting the message from the faithful without “Rossy Colored Glasses” as an automatic go to in times of OBVIOUS DOUBT….

The secondary actually looked pretty decent for a change. Didn’t get an opportunity to see last week’s scrimmage but it seems Todd “might have” reignited or found some lost coaching prowess. Those boys looked HUNGRY for the ball on all levels of the backfield…. So… for that…. Todd gets his flowers. If he Earns them, It’s Only Fair He Gets them EVEN THOUGH I THOROUGHLY ENJOY THROWING HIM UNDER THE BUS I can’t find a reason to in the training dept. “YET”…

TWO : ” WITH THAT SAID” Todd’s decision making on preseason games……

McMillan was almost PARALYZED FROM THE TOP OF HIS HEAD TO THE BOTTOM OF HIS FEET FOR WHAT??????? To bring in Bridgewater so we can watch the guy throw with touch?? BIG DEAL! EVERYBODY THROWS WITH TOUCH BECAUSE THEY EITHER DON’T HAVE THE ABILITY OTHERWISE OR THEY DON’T HAVE THE CONFIDENCE REQUIRED TO BE “THE MAN”!

And Bowles GIVES ME A REASON!…….

BOWLES! DUDE! Think Man! We ONLY have the staff on paper! We DON’T ACTUALLY HAVE Chris Godwin! He’s NOT PLAYING, NOT EVEN PRACTICING! And you might have just lost our 2 receiver for the SEASON OVER NOTHING! Ebukoo hasn’t EARNED ANYTHING YET, GODWI. IS A NO SHOW ON THE SEASON SO FAR! MCMILLAN IS OUR NUMBER TWO WHO HAS “EARNED HIS STRIPES” IN RECORD BREAKING WAYS LAST SEASON!

    Now Todd… THAT WAS STUPID!

THREE: It’s Now a GUARANTEE that a receiver whom otherwise was headed to the practice squad has Now Made The Team and we LOST A Different, CRUCIAL spot on the 53 that we needed for other Challenged Depth…..! It lowers our chances at going to the Super Bowl to LOSE OUR NUMBER TWO RECEIVER AND LOSE A SPOT ON THE 53. THAT! That…. TODD BOWLES IS A FAIL!

    THINK MISTER! THINK!

    Bonus # 4

The O Line STUNK OUT LOUD!!! FIRST STRING, SECOND STRING, THIRD STRING??
    I COULDN’T TELL THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!

  10. Day 1-76 Says:

You do realize that the entire second-team offensive line will never be on the field at the same time during the season, right?

  11. heyjude Says:

Good stuff, Joe! Right on. Rooting for Buka.

Sit him out for the Bills game. We can’t have him get hurt.

  12. Obvious One Says:

Apologies. Got caught up without giving Flowers to New Blood who is Looking REAL GOOD… And that’s Emeka!

He’s as Smooth as silk. He may have by No Fault of his on Default, become our number two ALREADY!

And with that said, (as long as Bowles doesn’t get him killed before he has a True Chance to shine) with the way Chris Godwin is having an extra hard time coming back, It was a Blessing AND a Stroke of SMART THINKING on Jason Lichts part to have made him part of the family.

His reputation seems to be Well Spoken .

Congratulations on your First NFL touchdown Emeka!

  13. Lightningvinny Says:

So at this moment we have #1 Evans #2EE #3 Shep ,!then the rest Palmer, Greene, Tez , Miller ,,,, Do not play #1-3 against Bills ,,, Don’t play the line,, don’t play Bake or the D lol

  14. Saskbucs Says:

Yeah we don’t need the Bills seeing any starters, Egbuka, Parrish. Make em wait for the real game.

  15. KABucs Says:

Obvious One… chill pills… take 3 (don’t read the directions on the bottle… just do it).

I’m not a Bowles lover. He is solid in some areas and lacking in others, but to nit pick a preseason game over the fact that Bowles isn’t managing things much different than the NFLs top ten coaches would during preseason tells me your just a Bowles hater. He won’t do anything right in your eyes. There’s a hand full of you unreasonable SOBs posting on JBF and I pretty much just roll my eyes… move on to the next post.

  16. HC Grover Says:

    Blunder Bowles on deck.

  17. Esteban85 Says:

    Definitely gotta sit this guy

Dude chill with the Bowles blunder and be grateful for what we have

  18. Esteban85 Says:

McMillan is the #3 receiver and this is merely his second year! He’s not perfect and needs practice. To those who think we should bubble wrap every starter until game 1 of the regular season, do you not think guys need practice? Should they not get their bodies in shape for the hopefully 20 game season? Injuries happen and yes they have been happening all too often for our Bucs, but this is football!! This ain’t tiddlywinks! If we bubble wrap these dudes and they come out flat and soft on game one I guarantee all these clowns on here will be talking ish about Todd and his decision making skills. I feel for the man because he’s damned if he do and damned if he don’t with you fools.
