Terry McLaurin And The Bucs

August 25th, 2025

Joe looks at today’s announcement of a new and massive three-year contract for 30-year-old Washington receiver Terry McLaurin and has to smile.

McLaurin held the Commanders hostage, a team with limited receiver talent, and won big. McLaurin signed for north of $30 million annually.

McLaurin is not as good as Mike Evans, and he hasn’t had the career of 29-year-old Chris Godwin.

Full details of McLaurin’s deal aren’t public yet, but Evans likely will earn at least 20 percent less than McLaurin this season, as will Godwin. It was widely reported Godwin turned down a McLaurin-level, three-year deal to stay in Tampa for less money. Evans probably will do the exact same thing next year on a one-year contract.

It all speaks to the Bucs’ culture and how well the roster has been managed, especially at a critical position like receiver. The Bucs are loaded. Other teams must pay a premium because they’re not.

McLaurin couldn’t get open much at all with Dean shadowing him. When Dean went out of the game, he was on fire. He’s a very good- not great receiver IMO.

  2. LouisFriend Says:

The headline from the agent is “up to $96M”. However, let’s see what kind of deal McLaurin actually got in the end. Agents love to crow about the total contract – but we should all know it’s the guarantees that matter.

  3. Baking with Grizz Says:

    Great job Joe!

We are loaded we the perfect players.

  4. StickinUp4Centers Says:

Not to mention drafting EE because a WR with his ceiling is either going to cost $$ in FA if they even become available.

  5. LakelandBuc Says:

Terry McLaurin got a 30 million signing bonus

That what these (older) guys are looking for
A huge lump sum, upfront money

They can do a lot with a bag Ike that

  6. LakelandBuc Says:

Godwin misses a lot of games. McLaurin don’t miss games

He’s as reliable as they come

  7. ChiBuc Says:

I bet he’s on the field 20% (or more) than Godwin, so the $ seems justifiable

  8. Godlovesbucs Says:

He is a great 2nd option on a team.

  9. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Part of McClaurins’ value is that he was a reliable target for Daniel in his 1st year, and is likely to remain a reliable target for Daniels in year 2.

  10. Lightningvinny Says:

Extend Evans and Baker , save some money on the cap and get the bengals edge rusher ,,, Super Bowl bound

  11. First Last Says:

We should offer Mike Evans something similar and that will be his last contract until he retires. 35 is a good age, maybe he wants to go longer, but this would seal the deal if he has high production this year again

  12. heyjude Says:

    Show Mike the money!

  13. PSL Bob Says:

McLaurin was the face of the Commanders franchise for years before Daniels arrived. Management never should have allowed this contract dispute to develop. It’s Cleveland Brownesque.
