Teddy Bridgewater Will Play Saturday Night

August 14th, 2025

The Bucs’ new quarterback will take the field Saturday night in Pittsburgh, possibly right after Baker Mayfield is finished with his limited work under the lights.

Yes, most starters will play Saturday, though not Mike Evans — and for good reason.

Todd Bowles gave the news today after a strong practice by the Bucs against the Steelers. Joe’s attitude after this practice. Start the season now! (More on that later).

Bridgewater sure looks smooth in practice. Yeah, he doesn’t have Baker Mayfield’s rocket arm, but Joe saw Bridgewater make some tight-window throws today against live action. He sure looks like he’s been on the team a lot longer than nine days.

Joe talked 1-on-1 to rookie Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard after practice about Bridgewater, and he’s very pleased with how quickly Bridgewater has acclimated and adjusted.

Hopefully, Bucs fans will get a nice taste of that Saturday.

Man, I wish he’d cut his hair. It makes my head itch just thinking about having that much hair in this heat.

I’m glad he’s doing good. I have always liked and admired him.

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

Kyle Trask showed enough last week

We know he’s an NFL starting QB, given the opportunity

Can’t wait to see how Teddy does Saturday!

  4. DungyDance Says:

Any word on whether he will face Steelers first team?

  5. Hodad Says:

Teddy doesn’t need to do more than hand the ball off. It’s a meaningless preseason game, not a game he needs to try and win. I wouldn’t play Baker, or any of the starters.

  6. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    No we don’t.

Never hurts to have a backup QB that can come in and win a game or two!!

  8. Usedtocould Says:

    Finally a decent backup

  9. Kenton Smith Says:

Bridgewater has been there and done that. I’m pretty sure if he’s the 2nd team QB there will be alot of whining going on-Trask just can’t seem to get a fair shake, etc.,etc., and then I’ll have something to chuckle about. And Lakeland Buc. We is plural. I is singular. I certainly don’t believe Trask is a starting NFL QB. But he should make a good 3rd stringer. Should is the key word there.

  10. Vanessa Anne Says:

Good. Looking forward to seeing what Teddy can do.

  11. JimBobBuc Says:

Trask looked good against the 3-14 Titans’ 2nd and 3rd stringers. I still don’t know how he will play in a regular season game against starters. The Bucs have tape on Bridgewater from long ago, but how good is he now?

    Tampa Ted

  13. Tye Says:

Maybe Teddy can get through a game without a significant injury!

Now those helmet logos look way bigger than how I remember them looking on tv the other night… Hell, I don’t know!?:/

  15. MelvinJunior Says:

There are several Bucs Fans out there who are scared to death right now that Teddy might look good. And, will be ROOTING FOR him to fail.

  16. MelvinJunior Says:

I don’t expect him to at all, but I hope he goes out there, & looks GREAT… Much better than Trask. Just all the better for the Team.
