So The Not-Ready-For-Primetime-Players Squad Is Known

August 28th, 2025

“Hey, Jason Licht, I think you forgot someone.”

Joe isn’t much into practice squad guys. They’re not on the 53, so why should Joe care?

But Joe does know there are roster junkies who lurk among us on this here corner of the interwebs waiting for the next Adam Humphries or Cameron Brate to emerge from the practice squad. Another reason Joe pays scant attention to the practice squad is there is little interest. You don’t see BSPN, FOX, NBC, Amazon, CBS or Barstool Sports spend much time on practice squad guys, do you?

So Joe offers up JC Allen’s tentative list of Bucs practice squad guys.

As Joe predicted, Garrett Greene was brought back. He showed some promise as he transitioned from West Virginia quarterback to NFL receiver. Joe thought he’d be brought back because he can play two positions in a pinch.

The Bucs also brought back Connor Bazelak, who is not an NFL quarterback. To his credit, he improved quite a bit in his four months. Bazelak, in rookie minicamp, was the pure definition of camp meat. Joe thought the Bucs could have found a quarterback from Clearwater Central Catholic or Plant high schools who was just as good.

In the Backup Bowl on Saturday night, Bazelak was still not NFL-quarterback level. But dang if Bazelak didn’t look like a different quarterback from when Joe first saw him in May.

Joe only has two other thoughts on the practice squad players.

The Bucs brought back cornerback Bryce Hall. “This Joe” was very surprised he was cut in the first place. First couple of weeks of training camp he was all over the place. Last couple of weeks, Hall did a disappearing act after an injury.

Players never want to get worse as training camp/worthless preseason drags on. Tight end Devin Culp was in the same boat. which is why Joe was a bit worried he’d get the pink slip (he didn’t).

A guy Joe thought was firmly on the bubble was tight end Tanner Taula. The Bucs have a logjam at tight end. Despite this, Taula, now on the practice squad, had a ton of targets with the second team. That’s usually a good sign a backup will make the team.

May they all one day be starters and winners for our Buccos

  2. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker Mayfield haven’t been ready for prime time games because he’s 1-7 in prime time games and that includes playoffs.

  3. Cleanhouse Says:

Let the big gator kid practice until he’s thin enough

  4. adam from ny Says:

yes bring in zyon’s broski……he was cut from the eagles

  5. Canabuc Says:

We signed OLB Kamara! Was a 3rd round prospect drafted by Dolphins in round 5 last year. Good pickup for PS.

  6. shaduckdow Says:

I thought RB Owen Wright should have been a keeper for the practice squad.

  7. Richierich Says:

Oneinuc you forget the eagles playoff game .and Mayfield isn’t ba pitcher…….Do everyone a favor and root for another team!!

  8. Callingoutthelies Says:

Long time listener, but fan since 1992. Very disappointed in Mr Bowles. He picks favorites and is not very truthful. I will be happy when he’s gone. He is a very poor coach. Bring back Chucky

  9. Callingoutthelies Says:

I see you are still trolling Trask. If I were Trask I would never play for a low iq coach ever again

  10. Callingoutthelies Says:

Trask trolling I would never play for a low iq coach ever again

  11. LakelandBuc Says:

They got big DT Jayson Jones after the Ravens cut him
6’6 335 lbs, he’s taking Watson spot on the PS

Safety, Jack Henderson release by the Panthers
    6’2 215 lbs, had 6 sacks, 9 TFL with Minnesota in the.Big 10
I believe he’s the only Safety on the PS

  12. Hogslyr Says:

The slimy Saints picked up Trey Palmer

  13. Oneilbuc Says:

Richierich. The one win he has is the playoff win and why don’t you Baker boys go root for another team. Because if he chokes another playoff game next year will be the last year you will be here because you will be back in Cleveland . Lol 😂

  14. PewterStiffArm Says:

Mo Kamara was an excellent pick up, in college no matter what team he went up against he looked pretty damn good. Todd Bowles, if they hold on to him, may be able to do something with this kid. Although, being a high draft choice, and going into your second team in as many years might raise a red flag. Let the evaluation begin, I’m game.

  15. Mike C Says:

Oneilbuc, how are your predictions about what would happen when your boy got the boot? Seem to remember you saying he would own our division with NO for YEARS!, AMERICA’S BACK UP QB LOL, your opinion on football things is worth less than zero bro.

  16. First Last Says:

Oneilbuc, I think that is why Bridgewater came in. Too many games Baker has had to play busted up and it shows at the end of the year. I can see Teddy taking a lot of snaps this year especially if we are ahead of the pack or clinch no. 1 seed early

  17. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Mo Kamara was added to the PS, that guy has some potential to help contribute as an OLB with time. Undersized, the 4.5 speed might make you think he’s a speed rusher but he plays with strength. Not hyping this kid up as a savior, but I wanted us to draft him in ‘24 but the Dolphins scooped him up before we got the chance. A development to watch

  18. Leopold Stotch Says:

Bruh I just saw we picked up Kamara. I thought we would have gotten him last year. Sleeper signing.

  19. MikeBuc Says:

“Richierich. The one win he has is the playoff win and why don’t you Baker boys go root for another team.”

@Oneilbuc You are in no position to tell anyone go anywhere else. You sold out the bucs for one player because you are a gators fan not bucs one

at least former cleveland fans root for a player on the Bucs . You will be whining against everyone on the team for months because of a player no longer on the team because he just wasn’t good enough .

  20. SB~LV Says:

I thought Joe was “All things Bucs”

  21. Colonel Angus Says:

Fans pay attention to PS squad guys, because we are fans.

  22. KABucs Says:

I pay attention to who’s on the practice squad, because our Bucs have some kind of voodoo curse going on and get injured more than average. Some of these guys will be elevated through the course of the season. Is it super important? Not really but I still pay attention.

  23. RagingBrisket Says:

Nick Jackson is the only player that matters

  24. ModHairKen Says:

    RagingBrisket, totally agree.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    happy nick jackson is back

    GO BUCS!!!!

  26. D-Rok Says:

I was most happy Jackson and Hall ended up on PS. Not sure about the rest of the guys (haven’t heard much about them).

As others said, I was surprised RB Wright wasn’t added to PS, but I will defer to the Bucs and their plans/evaluations.

Roster and PS looking good – Go Bucs ! ! !

  27. Mobucs Says:

Thanks, Joe, for covering the taxi squad. I’m one of those maligned ex-neo-Browns fans. The original Browns invented the taxi squad because the owner had a fleet of cabs and gave jobs to players who didn’t make the cut but might be useful later. Sometimes I find the stories of these players fascinating to read and their careers interesting to follow. Worth it for those –admittedly very rare–occasions when magic happens.

  28. Canabuc Says:

Wright and Majors are 2 I expected to end up on the squad. Somebody said it’s because they were both injured and so they have to probably go through some sort of injury settlement before they can be placed on the squad. Would not be surprised if one or both of them end up on the practice squad sometime in the next couple of weeks especially if one of the pickups we did make don’t work out.

  29. Capt.Tim Says:

At least two of those olinemen will be playing on Sundays this season.
    That is really important.
The 53 won’t all finish the season. We’ll be lucky if 45 of them are still standing come playoff time.
So that makes those 16 guys very relevant. A lot of them will be on our playoff team

  30. Aqualung Says:

Looks like the rest of the league has forgotten about Trask, too. Apparently no one cares to “see what the Bucs had in him.” They know from scouting. Football people know. Trask is no NFL QB, not even a poor man’s Mike Glennon with a rotator cuff injury.

  31. Hold Up Says:

For those who choose to forget football is a team sport, and blame Mayfield for the 1-7 prime time record in his two years with the Bucs, here are his number in those 8 games:

181-264 for 1958 yards and 69% completion percentage, averaging 7.42 per attempt, with 18 TDs to 4 INTs and a QB Rating of 106.53.

If you were to average these out over a 17 game season, his numbers would put him in the top 5 when compared to all QBs in 2024. A group that also included… Baker Mayfield.

Just from quick dip in the memory bank, in two of the prime time losses, Mayfield never touched the ball in overtime, and in another, he only had 18 attempts total as the Bucs D couldn’t get off the field. In one game he had only 24 attempts, to the opposing QBs 59, as his D gave up 477 passing yards, while in another game his HC and OC were determined to establish the run, even after they were embarrassingly unsuccessful and fell behind early.

Life is much easier when people aren’t blinded by bias, and live in reality, but ya’ll do you.

  32. BUDLIKEDTHEBUCS Says:

I am not obsessed with sports detail.I am not employed by a sports team.
My dad Bud loved the bucs hes passed away but I hated when they were always losing for him.Mike Evans gave my grandson a signed ball talked to him he wanted to be a receiver. Threw him fozen 40 yard ropes caught everything Evans is the man. Mike Alstott helped my son a few times, hes the man. the stadium is hot as F Took Bud there for games in the 80s during the losing but he loved it steve deberg use to bring in O line to the bar when I was playing guitar in a bar band in the 80s They were alot of fun. so instead of all the details Go bucs win

  33. orlbucfan Says:

Thanks for the memories, BUDLIKEDTHEBUCS. Yeah, my beloved MIL (long passed) was a devout Bucs fan, and turned me on to them. We went to plenty of games in the dreary 1980s. She would take me as a birthday and/or Xmas gift which I loved, even though Tampa Bay was the Clown Princes (of Losing) of the NFL. She also predicted I would live to see them win the SB. She wouldn’t. I hated it, but her prediction came true. If only she could see the franchise now. What an improvement, both front office and on the field. In her honor, GO BUCS!
