More Evidence Tez Johnson Made It
August 26th, 2025
Gone.
Joe had long maintained there was one spot on the Bucs roster for two players. Which player would survive was unknown.
It appears we now know.
Per Greg Auman of FOX Sports, receiver Trey Palmer has been released.
Joe was convinced the Bucs had one spot for either Tez Johnson or Palmer. That would be as a return man, deep threat. (Please save your 40-time blasts. That’s track, not football. If the 40-time was the be-all, end-all of measuring wide receivers, the NFL would be loaded with past Olympic sprinters).
The Bucs chose not to keep Palmer. So Joe is convinced Johnson will keep a roster spot.
The case with Palmer is strange. He has lightning-fast speed but it was rarely utilized. Palmer and Baker Mayfield never seemed to be on the same page on deep shots. Joe was told months ago Palmer needed work on the ends of his route tree. So Joe guesses that was the culprit.
The case for Palmer is strange. Last year during training camp, Joe was talking to then-Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen about Palmer. Coen told Joe the Bucs wanted to get the ball on short passes to Palmer and then let him use his jets to get YAC.
Coen brought up Palmer’s 56-yard touchdown catch against the Eagles in the playoffs as Exhibit A. But that plan to use Palmer in such a way never developed.
Johnson getting a gig over Palmer proves that with wide receiver, it ain’t all about track speed.
TREY. PALMER. IS. GONE.

Man, that touchdown gave me hope. The guy was blazing fast, but just seemed to not give it a lot of effort on the field
August 26th, 2025 at 10:25 am
The Bucs continue to look for a new Jacquez Green. If Quez had played with today’s rules, he might have been a HoFer.
August 26th, 2025 at 10:26 am
Joe, Isaiah Simmons was just cut. Do you think Todd Bowles could use a guy like that? Sounds like someone that Todd Bowles would salivate at signing
August 26th, 2025 at 10:31 am
No we wouldn’t want Isaiah Simmons, we are trying to improve our roster.
August 26th, 2025 at 10:33 am
Yeah figured palmer was a goner. Showed some promise his rookie year then basically nothing
August 26th, 2025 at 10:39 am
“Joe, Isaiah Simmons was just cut”
Was quietly hoping this was who we went after in the offseason. A little taller than what we usually look for in an ILB, but he’s long, rangy, and a pretty good athlete.

tez has skills trey doesn’t. Think of him as a little Bucky receiver that can dart and make guys miss …it all makes sense but now watch Carolina pick up Palmer.
August 26th, 2025 at 10:44 am
Guess they couldn’t find a trade partner for Palmer.
August 26th, 2025 at 10:49 am
Chiefs just released Safety Mike Edward’s maybe he needs to come back home to Tampa
August 26th, 2025 at 11:01 am
Too bad thought Palmer had a lot of promise. Think playing with a QB that doesn’t have the best long ball did him in plus Palmer dropped passes. Maybe a practice squad signee??
August 26th, 2025 at 11:10 am
I think they compared backflips and Tez won out.
August 26th, 2025 at 11:10 am
Buc4ever,
4.3 speed on a rookie deal is going to get claimed off waivers
August 26th, 2025 at 11:25 am
Heads would explode if they released Tex 😁
August 26th, 2025 at 11:26 am
Tez. Damn autocotrect
August 26th, 2025 at 11:26 am
Not only is Tez a better all round receiver, he’s the right type of locker room guy. Out going, always up beat, he lifts up his teammates around him. Being Bucky’s other brother from a different mother helps too. His college tape is electric, and so is he player wise, personality wise. The Bucs put a lot of stock in the right locker room guys. Tez gets an A+ in that department. He was a lock to make the team all along, and get ready for more back flips this season.
August 26th, 2025 at 11:41 am
No surprise here.
The surprise to me is Kam Johnson appears to have made it. Maybe someone can shed light on what he does other than drop passes.
Very surprised that the versatile Greene or Trey wasn’t kept over Kam.
August 26th, 2025 at 11:41 am
I wanna see how durable Tez is going to be as a football player in the short & long run. Personally, I could give a rip about how fun of a person he is this isn’t Love Island it’s the NFL.
August 26th, 2025 at 11:46 am
Receptions 8 of 8 for 58 yards (7.2 AVG) and 1 TD compared to 9 of 9 for 167 (18.6) and No TD’s. Johnson could be 2nd on the depth charts behind Metcalf in Pittsburgh and not Scotty Miller.
If the Panthers deal Thielen they could have a spot for Palmer.
August 26th, 2025 at 11:59 am
Kam Johnson
Josh Hayes
John Bullock
Markees Watts
Kindle Vildor
Josh Williams
These are some of the players Bowles want on his special teams
They are not better position players than some of the cut players. But they are better special teams players.
Nick Jackson is helluva ILB, but he’s not that good on special teams
The same goes for Bryce Hall

On that play, Palmer got all those yards because of a terrible missed tackle. He didn’t even juke the guy, just an awful angle. Once he got going, his speed showed but he’s not truly elusive like Tez. And 8 of 8 rec tells me Tez has better hands. I don’t necessarily dislike Palmer, it’s just the business of the NFL.
August 26th, 2025 at 12:04 pm
Bucs rarely get so lucky with late round picks becoming significant contributors. Palmer was a 6th round draft pick, spent (3) seasons LSU? Which around that time the LSU WR incubator was hot. He left LSU for Nebraska when LSU lost all their studs to the NFL draft. His school, speed and size were too good for him to slip to the 6th round, something had to be up.
If this offense is anything like Coen’s, guys like Miller are simply a better fit. Rarely have the Bucs released a player that burned us later on. We will see.

Egbuka-check. Tez Johnson-check. What’s the scoop on Parrish?
August 26th, 2025 at 12:18 pm
Palmer is a pretty boy.
Jackson or Carolina will sign him.
August 26th, 2025 at 12:37 pm
Why do we get info on one player at a time bring released ?
The shield site lists all the teams cuts, ours has 5 players
August 26th, 2025 at 12:51 pm
Shefty says 3 UDFA make the Bucs ,,, Tez has to make it
August 26th, 2025 at 12:53 pm
Williams , Chuk, Bullock
August 26th, 2025 at 12:59 pm
KABucs, you’re absolutely correct. Palmer is fast, but not particularly elusive. Elusiveness is what you want to see. Bucky has it and so does Tez!
August 26th, 2025 at 1:24 pm
Favorite pick of this draft. Talent and great teammate. This is 3-4th round talent in the 7th.
August 26th, 2025 at 1:25 pm
The DB didn’t whiff on Palmer.
Palmer did show some core strength and balance in shrugging off that tackle attempt.
There was enough contact to topple a lot of guys or make them stumble and give the help time to clean it up.
August 26th, 2025 at 1:33 pm
😂😂😂Denied😂😂😂😂
August 26th, 2025 at 1:36 pm
With Tez change of direction I don’t think many guys are gonna get a clean shot on him, certainly not the LB’s but chased down by corners and safeties. Joe you said it about flat speed but the twitchy-ness that Johnson brings can’t be taught either, like you said he makes a guy miss in a phone booth.
August 26th, 2025 at 1:38 pm
Are they cutting anyone? 2 hours to the deadline and not many press releases.
August 26th, 2025 at 1:59 pm
Orlbucfan were you not paying attention to the pre season Parrish is going to be a star.
August 26th, 2025 at 2:17 pm
Short passes to Palmer seem to bounce off his hands. Tez can catch. I have not seen him catch anything longer than ten yards, however. Can he get open deep against faster, bigger players?
August 26th, 2025 at 2:19 pm
As per augmon Tez is official in and the 53 roster is set
August 26th, 2025 at 2:26 pm
Palmer…speed doesn’t help you judge the trajectory of a pass.
August 26th, 2025 at 2:36 pm
Worse example Of Palmers bad route running. two years back he gets wide open streaking down the field.
For some inexplicable reason he changes direction and of course Baker lofts the ball deep – to where he should have been before changing directions. He was too deep for that turn to be part of the route and you can see the confusion in the way he decided to chang direction. When you are open like that deep you obviously keep going in the same direction.
August 26th, 2025 at 6:05 pm
Woodman, you don’t know if Parrish is going to be a star. I hope he makes the final cut cos he has potential. I don’t watch college football so I stay out of a lot of draft, etc. talk.
August 27th, 2025 at 1:15 am
I never really thought there was any debate about Tez making the team. Palmer and him were not competing for the same spot in mind – it was Palmer vs Miller. Tez is what we saw the other night, more of a gadget guy you scheme to get the ball to in the short game and let him make some moves to gain yards – I think, to some extent, that will continue to the regular season. Also Tez, I assume, will be the punt returner – if he’s not, I think that means the team values him more highly than I thought as a receiver – I don’t think it would meant hey are down on him.
