Josh Grizzard Synergy Keeping Baker Mayfield On The Bench

August 19th, 2025

They’ve dressed as one, and apparently they’re working together as one.

A couple of weeks ago at training camp, Baker Mayfield played dress-up with a goal to look like his offensive coordinator (Joe’s photo above). It was cute, but it seems to have represented how well the duo is working together.

Today, Todd Bowles said Mayfield won’t play this preseason, in part, because of how unified he is with rookie playcaller Josh Grizzard.

“It’s the chemistry with everybody going in sync, so I feel like [Mayfield] and Grizz is in sync right now,” Bowles said. “So I don’t feel like I need to play him the last [preseason] game.”

Joe is glad Mayfield is done for the preseason, but if he and Grizzard felt they needed a little live-action time together, then Joe could have stomached Mayfield playing a series or two Saturday against Buffalo in the preseason finale.

That’s not happening, and it’s a small testament to how well Grizzard has settled into his new role.

Has Trask thrown a pass that almost got his receiver killed like Teddy already did? Go Bowles?

  4. Hodad Says:

Todd gets credit for picking these OCs, but it’s Baker who makes them become HCs.

If Baker played and got hurt could you imagine the screeching on JoeBucsFan?

Smart decision, Baker will light it up and will probably still have an interception.

If Teddy Two Gloves kills another receiver during this last pre-season game we are cooked

  7. DBS Says:

And how many TD passes has Trask thrown in the last 2 preseason games? Better yet in the last 2 years? Even in a regular season game when Baker was out he couldn’t do it. Couldn’t get in the end zone.At that time he was playing with the starters. Teddy already has 2 just in a short time with this team and the playbook.

For the Bills game, only third string and lower should play. No bridgewater, no Trask. Bazelak can play the whole game. No more stupid injuries.

    @buc4evr

    AMEN!!!

  10. BucVoyager Says:

Trask doesn’t throw hospital balls because he’d rather hold onto them and take a sack. I’ve seen elderly folk with dementia think faster that Trask.

Good stuff. Also thinking Grizz and Baker are starting to look like each other too. They are definitely in-sync.

  12. Tim Says:

Do they ride a tandem bike too?

I saw your backup QB poll and all I have to say is: I hope we never find out!!

    Tim, LOL.

  15. Boomer Says:

    Dear God…

Please don’t let Bowles play ANY of the top 40 plus players slated to make the roster.

Seriously, should be a Game to determine the final 7-8 roster spots and practice team players. Let them play.

  16. B Says:

Lol. The ‘ol’ double down move with this one. Nice.
