Johnny Manziel Blesses Baker Mayfield, Slaps Browns

August 20th, 2025

Johnny Football remains stunned by the bumbling Browns.

That was the iconic quarterback and NFL bust’s message during his sitdown with USA Today.

Last week, Johnny Football, aka Johnny Manziel, said he still can’t believe his old team let go of Baker Mayfield.

“Throughout the years, whenever Baker was [in Cleveland], it was fun to watch,” Manziel said. “I can’t believe they let him go somewhere else. You know, they had their guy and now he’s kind of making them eat it.”

Mayfield acknowleged Manziel’s comments to USA Today yesterday but shared no ill will.

“That’s sports. It’s life. It teaches people life lessons.” Mayfield said, adding “it’s all about timing” and he wouldn’t re-write his story if he could.

Despite living through The Lost Decade of Buccaneers football, Joe can’t imagine being a Browns fans. What a miserable organzation, and they were forced to watch quarterbacks Josh McCown and Jameis Winston after the Bucs washed their hands of each guy. Now they’re banking on Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

Joe’s a grateful, grateful Bucs fan.

Yes, Baker has certainly been ‘Born Again’ with the Bucs. Both Baker and the Bucs are fortunate that they fell into each other’s laps at the perfect time for both parties! Go Bucs!!!

  2. MikeBuc Says:

Being an ex browns fan its not all bad. Few things taught so well how karma can bite you in the rear when you sell out your principles.

Meanwhile johnny should opine about how he can’t believe he wrecked his life by not being in control of his urges off the field. IF not for that Baker never goes to Cleveland at all.

  3. Joseph C Simmons Says:

I grew up a 49ers fan. Still not sure how I picked them, but I kept them because not only did they win, they cared about winning. Obsessed, even. Meanwhile, the Bucs were owned by that cheapskate Culverhouse who never really tried to win. I just couldn’t root for them.

Then I moved to Tampa in 1993, and went to my first Bucs game in 1994. The Bucs became kind of my “second team”. Then the Glazers bought the franchise, changed the uniforms and started spending money. I fell in love. On opening day 1997, for the first time in my life, I rooted against the Niners. The Bucs have been #1 in my heart ever since.

(It didn’t hurt that the Niners had a change in ownership and had their own “Lost Decade” around that time.)

I’m so glad I root for an organization that A) Cares about winning and is B) Competent at trying. I don’t know how anyone could root for teams like the Browns, Bengals and Cardinals, who all have terrible inept ownership. I have two friends that are Bengals fans and I just don’t know how they do it.

    GO BUCS!

Enjoy hearing from JM. Good stuff. “He can’t believe they let him go.” Hey, it ended up being their loss and our huge gain! So happy we got Baker.

  5. Durango 95 Says:

If Licht can get Manziel signed by Friday afternoon guaranteed Bowles will start him Saturday night.

  6. LakelandBuc Says:

I thought Licht was gonna draft Johnny Rocket in 2014

Him and Lovie went to Texas A&M pro day , and fell in love with ME

  7. LakelandBuc Says:

Mike Evans was catching the passes from the Rocket man

  8. SenileSenior Says:

Maybe I am not as critical of Bowles, Mayfield or whichever Buccaneer personnel you wish to point out because I watched this franchise from the time of our first Superbowl on. The Lost Decade was a harsh reality. I will take Baker and Todd anytime, warts and whatever.

    Go Bucs!

  9. heyjude Says:

    That’s right, LakelandBuc!

I loved the days watching Mike and JM play! Great duo.

  10. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Means diddly squat coming from Manziel, he’s not even football relevant in 2025. This is like Josh Freeman coming out the woodwork and saying the same thing, could be how either feels or of being on the powda

  11. Larrd Says:

Moving off Bsker for Deshaun Watson was the worst decision in pro sports history, possibly. Maybe trading Babe Ruth was close.

Browns could be good even now with a decent QB. Good OL if healthy, good wide receiver in Judy, good tight end, and the makings of a top defense.

But they didn’t even try for a good option. 80 year old Joe Flacco then a reach for Dillon Gabriel in third. Shedeur Sanddrs might be their best hope but they don’t seem to even want him.

It’s too bad. No one loves football more than Northeast Ohio people. The birthplace of pro football.

  12. SlyPirate Says:

    SECRETLY HOPING

I would love the Browns to cut Dillon Gabriel. We could get two former Oklahoma QBs (and another Duck) from the Browns. DG is a Baker clone. Ridiculously accurate and high football IQ. He’d be a great backup.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

The worst thing about being a Browns fan is that it means you probably live in Ohio. Talk about a s-hole state, that’s right near the top. Cleveland is so polluted their rivers literally catch on fire. They paid for a Rock n Roll HOF only to have celebrities refuse to even go to the city so they have to do induction ceremonies in NYC. What an awful place.

  14. Oscar Says:

You’re stuck in the past Rod. That happened in 1969.

  15. OMFS Says:

Clown Munch: Cincinnati is a great town

  16. BigBoiBuc Says:

We should trade Bazelak for Deshaun Watson. Straight up.

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

    Bigboi, lolololol!

  18. KC Buc Says:

Completely off topic – but anyone know where that hat Baker is wearing is sold? I love it and can’t seem to find it anywhere. I need it!

  19. buc4evr Says:

@Rod, I actually went to Cleveland back in the day to watch the river burn. It wasn’t called the “mistake by the lake” for nothing. good times. lol.

  20. ChiBuc Says:

Rod, the Cuyahoga R caught fire over 50 yrs ago, before the Bucs even had a franchise. The entire steel belt was an environmental disaster. Times change, maybe you should change the dial on that old rabbit eared TV of yours and catch up with some recent events.

  21. Bill in Seminole Says:

The “Lost Decade”. All those years sitting in the stands. watching interception after interception, and leaving at the end of the third quarter, just to avoid the traffic.

We have won the NFC South now four years in a row. Better times.

  22. Larrd Says:

Northeast Ohio is very nice. Nicer than Tampa in the summer, to be honest. I love both places, but of course I am pretty happy, generally.

  23. infomeplease Says:

Joe, not to long ago the Bucs were banking on Winston, Josh McCown, and JTS too! Thank God the Buc’s have a quality front office and threw them out to the street.

  24. Davyboy Says:

I remember JM. He was a different cat, sad story. All that God given talent wasted and there was a lot. His ability to extend a play was so exciting to watch, legendary. If he would have been able to control himself off the field and been a dedicated athlete, we would have seen things by now that we never have seen from anyone. Maybe Michael Vick, maybe… was close to him. But he had IT. I’m not sure anybody had IT like he did. I watched A&M just to get my Manzeil fix, miss it. He really was Mr. Football. Good luck Johnny.

  25. Fred McNeil Says:

You Karen’s have spewed your annoyance at me before for pointing this out, but your comment software is as soft headed as you are.

  26. MadMax Says:

I knew what I saw when i said go get him Jason…for 6 something mill and see if it works…LOL, apparently it worked.

Keep ballin Baker but take care of yourself on those runs.

    *********************
He was a good college QB who at the time was playing with a future HOF WR who was an instant fix for jod inaccuracy. Yeah, JM could improvise and heave throws up for Evans like a good backyard football player. But that was the the best he could ever do.

Football is a cerebral game for QB’s in the NFL. And Manziel before, during and after football has never given a single person the idea that he was capable of grasping the nuances at any level. Just like Zach Wilson flamed out with the Jets, a running QB without a plan has no NFL future.

  28. Davyboy Says:

Louis, you are probably right. Maybe that’s why he did what he did. He knew he couldn’t deal with the mental part of the NFL game so he self-destruct to deal with his inability and inevitable failure, especially on such a big stage. Who knows other than JM himself. Still a sad story.

  29. garro Says:

Not sure how to take Manziels compliment. If it were from someone who had actually accomplished something at QB it may mean something. Manning? Wow! Brady? Ditto. Heck even their current starter Flacco would be more credible. Not that Baker does not deserve the praise. He most assuredly does! Heck just following Brady and playing well does it for me. Tough, tough situation for anyone.

    Go Bucs!
