“He Can Command The Offense”
August 26th, 2025Was Todd Bowles talking about landing liberation troops on Leyte Island? No, instead, Bowles was talking about his new backup quarterback.
This season, unless something terribly goes wrong, Baker Mayfield’s safety net will be backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. The long-time NFL veteran, who once started a playoff game, gives Bowles and the Bucs an experienced cushion if Mayfield happens to go down.
But the way Bowles spoke about the release of Kyle Trask, who is replaced by Bridgewater, Bowles sounded as if he needed a general to rally the troops.
“Well, obviously [Teddy Bridgewater] brings experience, but he brings a wealth of knowledge,” Bowles said. “He can command the offense right now.
“Him being older has a lot to do with it, but him being accurate and understanding what we’re trying to do has a lot to do with it as well.
“We had Kyle [Trask] for four years and it was a good four-year run. We just feel like we’ve got a better chance with Teddy.”
Bridgewater may be more accurate. But for a team with a real goal of making a playoff run, Joe thinks it boils down to Bowles has more trust in a guy with a winning record as a starter in 65 starts with 2,067 pass attempts under his belt — as opposed to Trask’s zero starts, 0-0 record and 11 career attempts.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:01 pm
Maybe someone should ask Toxic Todd what he could have done better to develop a QB that was drafted in 2nd round, handed a second contract and never saw the field.
Suppose it doesn’t matter. No matter what he says you can never be sure he isn’t lying.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:04 pm
Zero starts, 0-0 record, 11 career attempts because someone is responsible for that. Not even offered clean up duty. But hey, throw Godwin out there 2 scores down, but keep your starting QB in games where he could get hurt.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:11 pm
Lol. Trask is gone because he sucks. Get over it.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:14 pm
Not a Trask fan, but he was never developed. Not a Bowles fan either to be honest. Think he has a talented team but always manages to screw up. How Bowles could start guys like JTS for so long but not allow Trask to get into games the Bucs were going to win easily is beyond me.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:29 pm
The cult is SO dumb. So in “blowouts”, Trask would’ve had a lot of passing plays called!? C’mon man! He would’ve been handing the ball ball off. Or, gasp, throwing to 2nd and 3rd stringers.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:31 pm
And behind the 2nd string o line?
August 26th, 2025 at 5:37 pm
Honestly I’m happy for Trask he can finally go to a team that will give him a chance perhaps, he was never getting one with Bowles calling the shots. No trust in him because of no experience, well how you expect a guy to get experience when you keep him on the sidelines at all times. Hope he does well elsewhere
August 26th, 2025 at 5:41 pm
Funny. If there wasn’t a benefits violation in a Miami high school, Trask would probably have a job right now.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:47 pm
Bridgewater is OK. But I woud have stuck with Trask. I think some team will pick him up. He’s not finished by a long shot.
August 26th, 2025 at 5:48 pm
There might be something wrong with this logic. He was on an NFL roster behind the GOAT a trusted #2, and recently a maverick. Also was with two offensive coordinators that became head coaches. ALSO with top of 5he line QB coaches and Trask the dumb dumb, could get the ball out of his hands in under 5 seconds or gain the respect of the vets in the huddle.
Even the Joes have said he was spoon fed the playbook because it was over his empty head.
I don’t see anyone signing him. Must be because he is not a top 64 QB. Maybe because he can’t read, maybe because he sucks as a QB.
His best options might be to buy a shrimp boat, or learn to play ping pong, or … I think you get it. JENNN-A
August 26th, 2025 at 5:57 pm
Trask will collect is injury settlement when he leaves. Then off to his future. Wish him the best.
August 26th, 2025 at 6:00 pm
And The ReTodd strikes again with his loser mentality.
August 26th, 2025 at 6:05 pm
Trask fans / Gators homers need to get over it.
He couldn’t even play well enough in practice / preseason to earn the #2 QB spot, until there were only 2 QBs on the roster.
The wasted draft pick sucks, obviously. But that is on Licht and Arians, not on Bowles, IMO. I have plenty of criticisms for Todd, but Trask isn’t one of them. Being consistently inconsistent won’t get you very far in the NFL.
August 26th, 2025 at 6:08 pm
Saints fans are celebrating Teddy sending Bucs WR’s to the IR.
August 26th, 2025 at 6:20 pm
“Being consistently inconsistent won’t get you very far in the NFL.“
Someone needs to tell that to Baker… or maybe other teams did.
August 26th, 2025 at 6:53 pm
Bridgewater is likely to be hurt getting off the bus. Get ready for Bazelakkalakka.
August 26th, 2025 at 7:04 pm
Well, one thing stays constant on here: all the complaints about Bowles. You’d think the Bucs went 2 and 15 the last few years.
August 26th, 2025 at 7:05 pm
I said this ( as many others have ) in an earlier post.
Bridgewater has been out of the league, volunteering as a high school football coach.
He has stated that he would rather be coaching. To me that means had he not gotten suspended as a volunteer coach, he would still be coaching high school football.
Now I’m not saying cutting Trask was a mistake and I’m also not saying our Bucs aren’t looking at other, recently released QBs.
What I am saying is Teddy Bridgewater as the backup QB does not give me alot of confidence.
If Mayfield goes down and we trot Teddy B out to scrimmage, we have a problem.
August 26th, 2025 at 7:16 pm
Joe, you just keep trolling the TraskForce… it’s shameless, but it sure does drive page views!
Whether the entire Bucs fanbase will say it or not, Teddy B is the backup and Kyle’s time as Buc is likely finished. Teddy B showed how he could deliver, with a defense in his face, and he scored two touchdowns on a couple of nice balls, on about 9 days of practice.
Agree with the points for Teddy B was an obvious upgrade.
I’d say Trent Dilfer was a good comp for Kyle Trask, except that would be offensive to one of the worst starting QB’s we’ve ever had here…because Trent figured out a way to start for TWO NFL teams and has a Super Bowl ring to boot (sure, he rode one the best ever NFL defenses to get it, but he didn’t give the game away)!

Put them in the Winston years NFC South, where they were facing MVP Cam, MVP Ryan, and first ballot HOF’er Brees, they might have.
August 26th, 2025 at 7:30 pm
Rod, you made me laugh again.
A large part of the reason we did not win with Winston here is that most important position was a turnover machine.
Tried to root for him every year — but even his fans now have to admit it was him and not the Bucs. Doesnt matter if he is on a new team. Has a better coach like Sean Peyton or gets new contacts.
This team is better with Baker — this team is solid with Bowles. Not a 2-15 team.

We have a winner for Most Idiotic “Fan”: Rod Munch, the Mayor of Munchkin City! Take a bow, Rod Muncher! 🙄

Gimpy Ted is a horrible choice and surely guaranteed to burn Bowels!
Such a mistake for a HC!!!
August 26th, 2025 at 7:47 pm
Read this somewhere today, made sense. Either Trask or Teddy getting cut. If Teddy, he never would have cleared waivers, 3 or 4 teams would have wanted a proven commodity like him

That was pretty funny, Joe (unless your name happens to be Rod Munch)

Whether Trask, or Teddy, if Baker goes down the season is over. So for me, didn’t matter who they kept.
August 26th, 2025 at 9:02 pm
Bowles said Teddy was accurate and understood the offense. Can we infer that Trask was inaccurate and didn’t understand the offense?
August 26th, 2025 at 9:04 pm
Mark my words, Trask is going to dominate when he’s starting for the Memphis Showboats next Spring.
August 26th, 2025 at 9:31 pm
Wish all that didn’t make the team well including Trask. It’s a numbers game and unlike college can’t dress 100 players on game day.
My criticism of 2025 Bucs is I don’t believe pass defense is materially improved. Curious that Todd B was given a contract extension. This seems like the ultimate prove it year. Other teams have not been lusting for Todd. He is a good man and a “players coach” but his defensive schemes have been lacking. We will know right away if the defense is improved. Hope is not a strategy.
August 26th, 2025 at 10:20 pm
The sports talk radio guys in Jacksonville are clamoring for Trask to be signed by the Jaguars, but I see him going to any of the rivals in the NFC South. That would be terrible!
August 26th, 2025 at 10:21 pm
Teddy did so well getting the #3 receiver injured for half a season we promoted him 😒
August 26th, 2025 at 10:24 pm
This is absolutely mind-boggling. If Trask could play, he would. If he showed any promise he’d be here.
The fact of the matter is bucs front office people and coaches have had front row seats for this guy for FOUR years and they concluded – NO, hes NOT it! You think these guys don’t want to win?!?! I truly dont see how this is difficult to understand.
Many of you guys are killing Bowles right now but this is a BUCS decision. Nobody wants the guy. This is a bucs football site not a UF one. Get over it.

Don’t let truth, facts or reality get in the way of some of y’all’s Trask opinion. He is better than Brady, Manning’s and Montana just the NFL is conspiring to keep him down! It is a conspiracy I know it not his performance at practice and Training camp for past 5 years. Or is it Biden’s fault? Brady is in on it too or maybe Belichek is pulling the strings? Trask would have won us 2 Super Bowls by now. I think Mayfield is bribing Jason and Todd.
I wish the internet was around in 76 when we had Spurrier (who was phenomenal College player and College coach). Lord could only imagine the comments on here. LMAO.
In all seriousness, I hope he finds another team and succeed s but I don’t see him being picked up by anyone except one of our opponents to pick his brain.

Lets see… a top 5 offense…
…and during the same span, literally the worst defense and worst kicking game in the NFL, while playing the hardest schedule.
Yeah – it was Winston who was the problem. LOL!
August 27th, 2025 at 2:18 am
@Rod Munch
Football is a complementary sport. What defense stands a chance when you throw 30 INTs and fumble the ball 12 times?
August 27th, 2025 at 7:06 am
Trask is basically the Byron Leftwich of QB’’s.
August 27th, 2025 at 7:15 am
If there was a team out there that wanted him why did he comeback here this offseason…because no other team wanted him
August 27th, 2025 at 7:26 am
Rod — Bucs were a top in scoring 1 time in the Winston years.
That was in 2019. That was the year that he led the league in interceptions with a number no QB has gotten close to since, pick sixes with a number no QB has gotten close to since, interception return yards and most fumbles by any NFL player that season. Yes, we scored points after being down by his stupid plays,
Teams that win the turnover battle win approximately 75-80% of their games.
The Bucs team that year (2019) created 28 turnovers — 5th highest in the league. Should have helped them win more — except for Winston’s historic failures in the TO department that year.
But here is the funny thing when you say were top 5 offense.
The other years. Bucs 12th, 18th, 18th, 20th in scoring.
It’s time to stop the Winston love. Every NFL General manager has.
August 27th, 2025 at 11:24 am
Typical Rod Munch behavior, tell everyone his hero had one of the best offenses while here but left out it was ONLY 1 season and his completion percentage was barely 60% and his passer rating was a blinding 84 with 300 interceptions. What was Bakers? Oh it was a 106.8 with 73% completion rate. With the best playoff PR of the year at 146.5. That’s 23 more passer rating points. Now that is domination!! Not even close. Winston only threw the ball almost 700 times, thats a record. I would hope he had a lot of yardage passing.
It finally hit home, the Baker haters are UF fans and they are pissed a Sooner is in Florida beating out a Gator. Wow, if you children haven’t noticed this is the NFL. The NFL can’t help it if the UofF can’t put out better quaterbacks. I noticed the “Sooners” have 5 quarterbacks currently starting in the NFL. When Dillon Gabriel starts for Cleveland it will be 6 starting quarterbacks. I would imagine that’s a record too. But who cares, this is the NFL, go Bucs!!!
