First Surprise (?) Move

August 25th, 2025

Gone.

UPDATED: Joe never expected the following, especially for one of the league’s bottom-five pass defenses the last two years running.

What Joe thought was a key depth piece at corner is no longer a piece at all. That would be veteran corner Bryce Hall. Per Greg Auman of FOX Sports, the Bucs waved goodbye to Hall.

Hall started off with a good camp but after he had a penalty Saturday night (he got a little too handsy, which is his nasty habit), Joe thought, “Gee, haven’t remembered Hall making any plays for a few days.”

When one is a bubble player, a downward trajectory is not ideal in training camp and preseason. “This Joe” didn’t think Hall was a bubble player. Now he’s no longer a player. At least not with Tampa Bay.

Among other cuts, Joe noticed Auman listed tight end Tanner Taula as a victim of a visit from “The Turk.” Joe thought he had a nice camp. Not great, but got a ton of targets with the second team.

So Joe assumes the exit of Taula means Devin Culp stays? Like Hall, Culp was on fire early in camp and then faded. That’s not a good sign.

    We will keep younger guys

  2. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Can’t miss what we never had.

Most likely a prime candidate to come back on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

  3. Beeej Says:

I believe Jackson is gone also

  4. GoneGator Says:

Going to be interesting to see who rounds out our CB & Safety rooms

  5. TiredBucsFan Says:

Im really surprised about Nick Jackson.

  6. Stpetematt Says:

Yes, per Auman, Nick Jackson was released. Ugh! They also released Anthony Walker so they *may* be doing a trade of some sort…

  7. ATLBuc Says:

Hall was horrible Saturday. Gave me flashbacks of last season.

  8. Stpetematt Says:

I have this odd feeling Micah Parsons is coming here. I hope not because he’s too expensive but he’s awesome.

  9. firethecannons Says:

ughh Nick Jackson is gone as well wtf is happening here?

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

What are you talking about ATL?

Hall played in one game last year

  11. buc4evr Says:

Maybe the Bucs are getting ready for a trade. Trask is involved. lol.

  12. Pewter Power Says:

TF is going on? If Josh Hayes makes the roster and has to play meaning snaps I’ll have no mercy on Bowles when it comes to pass defense excuses

  13. Coburn Says:

I guess Bullock probably made the team with Jackson gone. I know they both played well, but I think I got them mixed up and looks like Jackson was flashier. I guess with Hall gone vildor probably made it. Sounds like he had more versatility playing at safety. They must feel pretty good about their young corners, although hard to make much of a judgment on Morrison a this point.

  14. Upstate NY BUC Says:

I’m smelling Micah Parsons all the way up here in NY!!! Go Bucs!!

  15. Bucswin Says:

So if we get rid of Trask, and Mayfield goes down. Teddy can’t survive the nfl. That’s already been established. Banking on hope with Teddy. Go Bowles!

  16. Coburn Says:

For everyone talking about Parsons.. how does that help our ILB position? If anything that just pushes someone like Braswell out, but we still need off ball backers

  17. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Another cut who won’t hit the waiver wire, smart move if this means he’s easier to bring back, but what’s to come of it? What is our front office trying to do?

  18. Stpetematt Says:

There’s definitely something afoot if they released all these linebackers.

  19. LakelandBuc Says:

I don’t understand these moves by the Bucs
Clearly, some of the players that was cut, outperformed the guys that’s making the cut. This entire off-season has been a joke, this is a popularity contest, not a (Best man win) senario…

  20. Coburn Says:

I think the cuts just go to show fans only see a small part of the picture. Which guys are super sharp reviewing film, have performed well in practice, can play more than one position possibly including special teams.. especially if near bottom of roster. Remember the rules changed and special teams were gonna be an emphasis

  21. Coburn Says:

.ore than one position helps with carrying a couple injured guys on the roster

  22. ocala Says:

If you watched the preseason game, you would not be surprised Hall was cut. That was some really bad tape he put out there. Maybe he was injured and they didn’t know it.

  23. BucsFan81 Says:

They will be signing Hall back after Dean falls down and is out half the season lol

  24. Joaquim Valente Says:

Just read that Mixon will not be in the lineup for the Texans for our week two game. That’s some good news!

  25. alldaway Says:

Nick Jackson is the only surprise cut so far.

But if Grier and Bullock stick I am okay with that because they showed upside too along with Jackson.

  26. LakelandBuc Says:

I know that Bowles is infatuated with Special Teams,
Especially, the punting team, that’s the reason for these cuts

He will give 500 passing yards, for a guy who can cover punts

My personal opinion, a great offensive team,
Shouldn’t punt the ball often, maybe a few times a game

  27. MelvinJunior Says:

Yeah, I was really disappointed in when I saw out of him the other night… Seemed kind of lost and slow at times. I didn’t see a lot of energy either, on the few times that I noticed him out there. Almost like he ‘thought’ he’d already had a spot locked-up maybe!?:/ I don’t know. It’s disappointing for sure.

  28. Chris O Says:

Don’t understand why they cut Nick Jackson. I’m not expert but ilhe looked instinctive and quick.

  29. unbelievable Says:

So we’re gonna keep absolute scrubs like Hayes and Mayweather instead?

    Baffling if true.

  30. StormyInFl Says:

I love all the pro talent evaluators in here who think they know more than a coaching and scouting staff that’s been evaluating these players’ every snap since spring.

I’ll take their word over yours. If they’re releasing these guys, they have a good reason to.

  31. Jmarkbuc Says:

Let’s wait and see how the PS plays out…

  32. LakelandBuc Says:

    Yeah Stormy,

Mike last season when they went into the season with KJ Britt as their starting ILB. I guess the fans had it right, and the coaches didn’t.

  33. LakelandBuc Says:

    “”Mike=Like

  34. Tony Says:

WE’RE BRINGING DERRICK BROOKS & SHELTON QUARLES BACK!

  35. DailyRich Says:

“On fire early in camp and then faded” could mean “You’re making the team, don’t kill yourself out there.”

  36. LakelandBuc Says:

The Bucs are essentially, bringing back the same trash from last season on this Front 7. Britt and JTS are gone, and they are being replaced by Reddick, and probably Grier Jr. The Safeties looks about the same, except Smith replacing Whitehead. The Corners are basically the same. Except, Parrish replacing Smith. Morrison will be a key backup, if he can stay healthy.

The D-Line is the same, except Roberts is in the mix, replacing Gholston. This Defense is not better in my opinion

The Falcons will feast on them
    Like a Thanksgiving dinner,
And the same guy will be calling defensive plays
A Soft Zone scheme with basically the same players

  37. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Mike last season when they went into the season with KJ Britt as their starting ILB.“

This is incorrect, we went into the season with Sirvocea & David as starters with Britt as an early/run down rotational player.

Britt had 11 starts and wasn’t named a starter until we lost Dennis for the year.

Dennis had 4 starts at ILB, couldn’t have gotten that if Britt was the starter to start the season.

  38. Rusty Shackleford Says:

NFL rosters need to be increased from 53 to 58.

  39. LakelandBuc Says:

Britt won the job, Dennis was only playing in passing situations

They were co-starters for a few games
Before Dennis jumped off the field, and never returned

It was.Britt, not Dennis who sent White to the bench

  40. LakelandBuc Says:

Regardless who starts, this defense will stink the field

  41. LakelandBuc Says:

As a Head Coach, you suppose to upgrade your roster

But you bring back, basically the same trash from last season
And you’re a trash defensive minded, playcaller

I can see why these anylysts have ZERO faith in the Bucs

And I’m in Total agreement with them

  42. Bucs4Ever Says:

Why are the Joe’s not updating the cuts? Kinda weird guys…I rely on you for info but I’m getting it elsewhere. All good. Joe will break news at times and not others. Joe really doesn’t care, otherwise Joe would have a mechanism in place to get things “first.” It’s just not something Joe cares much about. What Joe is interested in is being accurate and interesting every day.–Joe

  43. Allen Lofton Says:

The Bucs will go as far as the defense holds up.

Hopefully there will be a few released (cut) inebackers that are better than our current players and lead the Bucs deep into the playoffs.

If not we better be drafting defensive players in 2026.

Getting to the Super Bowl is hard. It took a Tom Brady to make it happen and there has been anyone like him since EVER!

  44. BucsFan81 Says:

    Trask has been released

  45. Saskbucs Says:

Surprised about Hall. I understand he is CB5… IF the rookies, 1 of whom we haven’t even seen are good. I expect they are but yeah… if Hayes hasn’t improved and he ends up playing boundary CB, yikes.

A lotta ifs. I trust the brass.

  46. Robert Says:

Did any of you guys notice Tanner Knue in preseason last year. He was an udfa.. He looked absolutely amazing. I saw he was on the practice squad last year but was released. If you can find it check out his game film. I don’t know what the coaches are looking at.

  47. Rod Munch Says:

I guess they’re keeping Kindle… I’m not a fan. Wasn’t impressed with him in the preseason, but much worse is the fact that Lions fans were celebrating him leaving the team. Home team fans always over estimate their own players, and when they’re cheering someone leaving, it’s normally for a reason.

  48. David Says:

    Hall, Walker, Trask…
Any chance they’re clearing space for Micah Parsons trade?

The only thing that really shocked me is Nick Jackson. Especially after Walker was released. He had a couple really good games. Plays faster than his 40 time.

  49. Rod Munch Says:

Wait, they cut Nick Jackson? Why? He was the best LB on the field in the preseason. He missed a tackle vs the Bills, but otherwise looked great. Wow, they have no depth at all at LB, and you cut one of your guys who actually looked good? Don’t tell me, Bowles was made he couldn’t cover guys 30 yards down the field since he wants all his LBs running backwards at the start of every play.

    A baffling, stupid, move.
