Baker Mayfield Doesn’t Give A Damn If You Blitz Him Or Not
August 20th, 2025
“Bring your weak-arse blitzes!”
Last year Baker Mayfield had a phenomenal season, a second career year for Mayfield after having one in 2023, his first season with the Bucs.
Last year it didn’t matter what teams did against Mayfield. Blitz or keep dudes back in coverage, Mayfield simply produced.
The football stats outfit Sumer Sports, which used to be run by former Dixie Chicks’ shot-caller Thomas Dimitroff (but is now being run by former Bucs’ suit John Idzik), documented Mayfield throws against a blitz and throws against a non-blitzing defense.
The result? Mayfield produced.
In fact, Mayfield was one of the better quarterbacks in the league last year for production no matter the defense.
That, boys and girls, is rock-solid consistency. #BetterMayfield

That’s because the name of the game is getting the ball out of Mayfield hands as fast as possible, so of course the blitz isn’t going to get home if he’s throwing to an RB releasing to a screen or his first read. Don’t believe?
2024:
2.5 seconds to throw (c)120-(a)195, 61.5%, 1722 yards, 13 TDs, 80 1st downs, 18 sacks and 11 INTs
3rd amongst the top 10 QBs getting the ball out in 2.5 seconds to throw
QBs in the top 10 whether >2.5/<2.5 seconds to throw:
-Joe Burrow
-Lamar Jackson
-Jayden Daniels
-Geno Smith

Off topic but did anyone see Elijah Roberts he’s going pretty good for a small school guy

Just stay out of Hooters, that’s for Gruden.

Pay the man
August 20th, 2025 at 9:52 am
Love Baker’s commercials! Awesome. He is the better QB!
August 20th, 2025 at 9:53 am
imo, it has more to do with the offense…the offense is designed to get the ball out quick…and unfortunately baker still lead the league in INTs….
cant imagine baker in the “no risk it no biscuit” offense with BA lol….he mightve tossed 20+ INTs lol….
GO BUCS!!!!

el hefe
kids is holding his own…he looks decent
GO BUCS!!!!

When you look at a lot of stats, you’ll see the best and worst at both the top and the bottom. That’s how you know the stat doesn’t matter.
In this chart the top right group of the Quadrant Graph includes the best QBs in the NFL. This stat actually matters. It also indicates Baker is in the elite group.
August 20th, 2025 at 10:16 am
If the offense is designed to get the ball out quickly, what is Trask’s problem. Trask nut huggers hating on Baker in every post.
August 20th, 2025 at 10:30 am
When Kyle is on the practice squad, the wailing and gnashing of teeth about how unfair he was treated, how dirty he was done, and how his feelings must be hurt will cascade to a new level.
“If I were Kyle I wouldn’t have resigned with the Bucs and gone to another team.”
That’s one of the latest traskflake takes. Guess what? No one else would have signed him. You don’t think Trask has an agent that might have shopped his services??? ROTFLMAO.
“How are we supposed to know what we have in Trask?” LOL! Get a job with the Bucs. Buc employees know what they have in him, that’s why he’s thrown 11 NFL passes in 5 years and has earned a demotion based on 5 years of practice.
He’s always been a late bloomer, he’s slow to come to the game at every level. And if you’ve heard him in an interview, you’ll know that he’s as bright as a small flashlight with an old battery. Maybe by the time he’s 35 he will be ready to play in the NFL, if he can hang on the practice squad for that long.
Practice squad Trask. Wishes he were as good as Ryan Griffin.
August 20th, 2025 at 10:32 am
It’s Becsuse he has the most important trait of a championship QB.
Courage!
August 20th, 2025 at 10:36 am
Remember, Baker had a lot of goofy INT’s that happened not due to mental errors but balls bouncing off receivers or being tipped. So not all of them were him throwing to the opposing team. Though a few definitely ring a bell, the most were like freak accidents
August 20th, 2025 at 10:55 am
First Last, are you sure?
August 20th, 2025 at 11:08 am
Ooooh the cream is still risin…
August 20th, 2025 at 11:19 am
Yes sireee old Baker throws those interceptions around about like his childhood hero, the superbowl winning, HOF quarterback Brett Favre. Where will the ride end? He’s already showed us WAYEEE more than all the experts on here swore he would. They laughed, they scorned, they quoted stats when he showed the world he is the toughest quarterback in the league by playing with a broken shoulder AND a completely torn labrum and FINALLY out of all that big talk Bakie did what Bakie has ALWAYS done, made them look like fools at every turn.🤣 Keep talkin boys, keep talkin!!!🤫
August 20th, 2025 at 11:20 am
I’m glad you posted that entertaining ad. I had heard about it but never saw it.
August 20th, 2025 at 11:26 am
Was that lady in the commercial telling Baker he was trash actually Rod Munch in a wig? It couldn’t be…could it??
August 20th, 2025 at 11:30 am
first last
i remeber several dbs dropping INTs thrown right at them lol…
it goes both ways lol
GO BUCS!!!!
August 20th, 2025 at 12:30 pm
So…according to the graph, Baker is 2nd best at “dealing” with the blitz and 4th best when not blitzed. On average thats 3rd best in the league for all of the 2024 season. Isnt that the very definition of elite, top 3?? And by the way, isnt that 2 MVP winners Baker is hanging out with up there? That has to be somewhat painful for a few of our fellow experts to come to terms with. Baker Mayfield in the high elite group, better than Mahomes even, who would have ever guessed??🤔
August 20th, 2025 at 12:41 pm
Well Baker and Bowels lap dog Brownie refugees at it again, “Don’t say nuffin bad about our boys ,(even if it’s true),cause we don’t care if the only place they have led us to ,( that we weren’t already bogged down in) , was leading the league in fumbles and interceptions, and the championship of the NFC South , ( and where did that get us?), Every other team in the division getting higher draft choices! So if you are satisfied with Mayfield throwing two interceptions in the last team practice,( actually five if you count the three the defensive backs dropped , and fumbling running down the field when no one has touched him ) , and You think that is “consistency “, and he is already in mid -season form, You are either getting paid to say that, ( wouldn’t surprise me , Democrats pay protesters all the time, why not to counter unwanted opinions?), or you really are not paying attention , I am sure you will soon once again be enjoying , paid commercials .
August 20th, 2025 at 1:43 pm
3 good QBs in that 2018 draft. Josh Allen has thrown for 26000 yards. Lamar Jackson has thrown for just over 20000 yards. Baker Mayfield has thrown for 25000 yards. 2 of those QBs have been given every advantage. Mayfield on the other hand has had to compete for every inch. If Mayfield can stay healthy and stay with Tampa another 5 years he’ll blow those other fellas into also rans. As it should be.
August 20th, 2025 at 1:47 pm
I am confident Baker Mayfield performs as well as the best quarterbacks in the league. Whether the blitz is on or not.
I’ve watched all the Bucs quarterbacks, and in my opinion, Baker’s the best we’ve had except for Brady in 2020 and 21. The only difference is years of experience which Baker is gaining day by day and play by play.
Will Baker be as good as Brady ? I think he has a chance ? He flashes so well and as Joe points out it seems to be when he’s under the most pressure.
Hopefully he leads us to another Super Bowl win !!
Go Bucs 2025 !!
August 20th, 2025 at 1:48 pm
That was Gladys Munch BTW. Not sure how or if she is related to Rod.
Great commercial, compared to other football players acting ability, he doesn’t do too bad. He had some decent practice with insurance a few years back.
That one local commercial that Zion McCollum does with Kancey… brutal… definitely need some acting classes.
August 20th, 2025 at 1:59 pm
“Baker Mayfield has thrown for 25000 yards. 2 of those QBs have been given every advantage. Mayfield on the other hand has had to compete for every inch.”
Kenton, you’re not being serious
Both those guys play the position better than Baker.
They’re better athletes.
More capable from the pocket.
Josh Allen needed work with his mechanics early in his career and put the effort in.
Baker Mayfield rebuked needing to work with a QB coach in his own time his 2nd/3rd year in the league.
Lamar had Bobby Petrino dedicating a chapter in his book about Lamars’ desire to be a complete QB.
You put the yardage up, because that is the ONLY comparable barometer of success that favors even mentioning Mayfield along with the other too.
Of the 3, Lamar Jackson is the most capable and dangerous in terms of what he brings to the table for his team by himself.
Baker didn’t have to scrap for anything, he had to grow up and realize the NFL isn’t anything like his life was in Norman.
He’s almost thrown twice as many INTs(90) as Jackson(49) having played in 3 more NFL games than Jackson.
Jackson has scored 199 combined TDs in his career, in 3 less games to Bakers 181 TDs.
You drop Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen on this Bucs roster right now, even with the injuries. We’re SB frontrunners before taking a regular snap, not “dark horses” like we are now.
Way too much cheese on that burrito man, way too much
August 20th, 2025 at 2:25 pm
WBL, Jackson and Allen have 5 playoff losses each. Jackson 3-5, Allen 5-5. Mayfield is 2-3. Jackson is 0-3 against Mahomes and Allen. You obviously don’t have any clue about Baker’s 3 different head coaches his first 3 years at Cleveland not to mention OCs. You don’t respect the fact we’ve got an elite QB. If we dropped Jackson or Allen on this team in place of Baker Mayfield we may be a better team. NOT!!
August 20th, 2025 at 2:29 pm
Oh Warren you know nothing, you never admitt the truth and you are delusional. To even utter those words, “Baker didn’t have to scrap for anything” just proves once and for all you are a total and utter football buffoon. Baker has had a different OC every single year and one year he had 2. No other quarterback in the history of the game has had that much of a “scrap”. You know nothing about this game if you can say that with a straight face. Going to a team that was 1-31 before you showed up is a monumental scrap for a veteran quarterback, let alone a rookie that his coach is terrible and is no where meaningful to be found today. Then his 2 injuries. Then going to another bottom feeding team and coach who is not even in the league today. His having to scrap is legendary and you actually said he hasn’t had to out loud where we all heard you. At least we HAVE a burrito. His whole career has been one big scrap. And do tell us where exactly did Baker turn down help with his game. I guess now you are going to tell us Bakie is lazy. At some point you are going to have to face the facts and that is we have top 5 quarterback and he is top 3 in some of the major aspects of the game, which makes him elite which makes us lucky. So take it down the track and sell your bs.
August 20th, 2025 at 2:33 pm
Oh yeah WBL. In the clutch (playoffs) Baker destroys those 2 also rans in QBR. And it’s not close.
August 20th, 2025 at 2:45 pm
I stand corrected. Baker has had 2 OC’s not once but twice in the same season. One of which was his rookie year and he still got rookie of the year with the rookie touchdown record. Ol’ middling Mayfield.
August 20th, 2025 at 2:48 pm
Bakers own Dad ripped him off. He’s definitely had to scrap.
August 20th, 2025 at 3:41 pm
Davyboy. He finished 2nd in rookie of the year voting- behind Saquon Barkley.
August 20th, 2025 at 3:57 pm
Warren Brooks Lynch, You conveniently ignored Kenton’s point. He was saying that the biggest difference in the 3 qb’s in terms of their success thus far has more to do with their situations with their respective teams in the first 4 years of their careers.Baker made by far a bigger difference for the Browns than Allen and Jackson did for the Bills and Ravens respectively between 2018-2021. Organizational stability and continuity in coaching and management makes all the difference. As proof :
Ravens record – 2010- 2017 pre Lamar 86-42 with a winning percentage of .671. From 2018-2021 with Lamar- 43-22 with a winning percentage of .661. Number of head coaches for Lamar-1 – Harbaugh. Looks like Ravens were just as good w/ out Lamar as with.
Bills record 2010-2017 pre Allen-61-67 winning percentage of .470. 2018-2021 with Allen 33-31 with a winning percentage of .515. Number of head coaches-1- Sean McDermott.
Browns record 2010-2027- 34-110 with winning percentage of .236 pre Baker. 2018-2021 with Baker 32-32-1 with a winning percentage of .500. Number of HC’s for Baker with the Browns-4.
To conclude the only thing you are right about is that Lamar and Allen are both better athletes than Baker but that doesn’t mean they are better qb’s. That is still to be determined.
August 20th, 2025 at 4:17 pm
Yes, you are right Kenton, second. I guess I got confused with the 2 organizations that named him offensive rookie of the year. Pro Football Talk and Pro Football Focus. Not the same thing, my bad.🤤
August 20th, 2025 at 4:21 pm
So Baker is consistently productive notwithstanding the fact that he led the league in interceptions. For a guy who is considered short by today’s NFL standards having more interceptions is not that surprising. I am happy to accept his performance and have confidence that he is leading this team to good things for years to come. And yes, I can see us winning a Superbowl with him. He is capable.
Go Bucs!
August 20th, 2025 at 4:29 pm
Remember that final game against the Saints last year. 4th down and 8 4th quarter. We’re losing. Bowles went for it. Had to. Dropped it right into the bucket. Next pass TD to McMillan. Brady was announcing and said it might be the best pass he’s ever seen. Then gets Mike to his 1000. Talk about clutch. You do remember that don’t you Warren? I do.
August 20th, 2025 at 4:46 pm
Kenton & Oscar
That point about the difference between those 3 players being Baker landing with the Browns and the other two landing with their respective teams is ridiculous. They are better football players than Baker, that shouldn’t even be a question. baltimores defense didn’t win MVP twice, Lamar did. Man threw 40 TDs with just FOUR INTs in 18 games. Bakers game doesn’t allow that type of efficiency because Bakers’ strength has never been efficieny, ever.
I countered with the fact both of those guys are bigger, stronger, faster, and MUCH better athletes on average than Mayfield is on his best day.
You’re both being obtuse, and using more spin than a cotton candy machine to paint these sweetheart narratives like Mayfield is on either of those guys levels compariso and he’s not.
In fact, a lot of Mayfields’ success has to do with the the Bucs being the best put together teams he’s played for his entire career. Not just the team, but the franchise from the owners to the front office.
Baker didn’t come here and change anything like Brady did just by being here. Baker came here and took advantage of the WEALTH of talent he was inserted into. Playing the most important position, doesn’t necessarily make you the most important player, we saw that last year after Mike & Chris went down.
And before you come in, let me say for a guy who “raises the talent around him” I think it was the KC game he went the whole 1st half without completing a pass to a WR. Some of that was on the reserves, some of that was on his inability.
August 20th, 2025 at 4:50 pm
“Oh yeah WBL. In the clutch (playoffs) Baker destroys those 2 also rans in QBR. And it’s not close.“
LMAOOOOOOO
It’s like just comparing their yards
You realize Allen & Mayfield have been trading 1 & 2 of leading the league in INTs since both were drafted? Even with Mayfield not playing a full season in 2022, to still be tops in INTs?
Allen just won an MVP and has improved, while Mayfield himself is still working on a hang-up in his game the Cleveland press pool was reporting about 6 years ago. Also, one was the 1st overall pick, so let’s talk value. Lamar easily for where he was drafted and what he’s accomplished, just tells me the Ravens are better run than the Browns. That’s a shock to nobody.
August 20th, 2025 at 5:20 pm
No response Warren🤣
August 20th, 2025 at 5:26 pm
WBL,
Talk about obtuse! As if baker came to Tampa with the same situation as Brady did in 2020.
August 20th, 2025 at 5:28 pm
Tell us how it was an equally good situation!
August 20th, 2025 at 5:31 pm
Player for player, salary cap situation, coaching, defense, offensive line. Tell us how it was an equally good situation.
August 20th, 2025 at 5:35 pm
We certainly improved upon things in 2024 and we’ve continued to build in ‘25 but we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out this year.
August 20th, 2025 at 5:35 pm
Let’s be totally honest Warren, Baker has never had top notch coaches. While Mahomes, Allen and Jackson have supped with the best as follows:
Team/individual coaching ranked
Jackson:
Team #2
Head coach #1
OC #4
ALLEN:
Team #5
Head coach #7
OC #10
Mahomes:
Team #3
HC #2
OC #8
Mayfield:
Team #27
HC #29
OC #23
And Bakers Cleveland experience was far worse. So you really don’t want to talk about Bakers coaching. Baker is basically self taught till he arrived here and look what has happened. Still far from what those 3 have enjoyed. I guess next you’ll tell us coaching is overrated.
August 20th, 2025 at 5:39 pm
If we are obtuse you are a sophist!
August 20th, 2025 at 5:46 pm
And by the way value by draft position has no bearing whatsoever.
August 20th, 2025 at 5:50 pm
Just because Brock Purdue is the best value of anyone based on draft position doesn’t make him a better player than the others.
August 20th, 2025 at 6:04 pm
WBL: One last thing, the fact that the Ravens are a better run team may not be a surprise to anyone but it is relevant to this conversation. Is it not?
August 20th, 2025 at 8:05 pm
WBL, Baker’s success has to do with the best put together team of his entire career. Are you daft or what dude? Vegas was predicting 4 wins his first year here. They had just finished a losing season and a playoff loss where the team looked like it quit they were routed so roundly. They lost a ton of what talent they had. WBL, you may not like it but there’s not another QB that could have turned around that Browns team the way Baker did. There’s not another QB that could have followed Brady the way Baker did. He’s a great leader and to think we’ve got fans who’d debate that is mind boggling. Yes, I’m saying your mind is boggled WBL. Might fix you up if you could run a slant against the Steelers with Trask throwing the ball to you.
August 20th, 2025 at 8:21 pm
“It ain’t what you know that hurts you. It’s what you know for certain that just ain’t so that hurts you”. Mark Twain said it for folks like WBL to ponder. “They are better football players than Baker, there shouldn’t even be a question”. “Baker came here and took advantage of the (wealth of talent).” I could go on all night WBL but I could never say it as well as old Mark Twain.
August 20th, 2025 at 10:11 pm
Run a slant Warren😉 it couldn’t hurt…
August 20th, 2025 at 10:29 pm
To what Oscar said, Allen and Jackson are better athletes than Baker but that doesn’t mean they are better quarterbacks. Allen and Jackson are far better athletes than Tom Brady. And your point was what Warren??
