Anthony Walker Is Now An Ex-Bucs ILB

August 25th, 2025

Gone.

Joe fretted all offseason about the Bucs’ depth at one specific spot. It grew worse today.

The biggest weakness on the defense is inside linebacker depth. After Lavonte David, it’s shaky. It got shakier this afternoon.

Bucs types were confident veteran Anthony Walker, Jr. would be a key cog in the defense. That’s now out the window as, per Adam Schefter of BSPN, Walker has been released.

The former Dolphins linebacker apparently got hurt outside of football. He never participated in one practice this summer and clearly never suited up in a worthless preseason game.

Now, it appears, the Bucs are banking on SirVocea Dennis, who has missed half of his games in his first two seasons in the NFL due to injury, and Deion Jones at inside linebacker, along with David.

I thought it was our strongest position group Todd and Jason?

  2. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

    Waver-wire prayers!

  3. Coburn Says:

Guess Bullock just made the team. I do suspect we will.br looking at other teams cuts

  4. Coburn Says:

    Def drafting one next year…

  5. Lt. Dan Says:

    Time to go shopping.

  6. jcscycles Says:

Well, you can’t make the club in the tub. Every spot counts, and id Walker cannot play, then we use the spot on someone who is healthy.

  7. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

I seriously doubt another team picks him up after not practice all training camp. He’ll end up on the practice squad.

  8. Kgh4life Says:

They never mentioned how and what type of injury it was. He participated in OTAs and then we never saw him again, just strange.

  9. LakelandBuc Says:

    I’m selling SirVovea Dennis,
But I’m buying Nick Jackson, he has all of the qualifications for a good ILB, high IQ, good instincts, physical abilities, and loads of experience. He wasn’t drafted, and he wasn’t signed as a UDFA, he was a tryout player, fighting and earning his way. He’s athletic, smart, educated, and he have already mastered Bowles defensive playbook..

  10. Nano107 Says:

    Nick Jackson
    Bullock simple

  11. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Practice squad, Walker is a vet meaning he doesn’t hit the waiver wire and can hang by the phone to be 1 of 16

  12. Pmike Says:

Parsons on a deal? Maybe he’ll take less to get out of Dallas and on a competitive team

  13. Brandon Says:

I’m not 100% sure Deion Jones makes the team… he played the ENTIRE game on Saturday. Teams don’t want their backups getting hurt either… i’d be moderately surprised if he made the team. We may get a surprise or two at the ILB position.

  14. LakelandBuc Says:

I see a lot of Shelton Quarles in Nick Jackson

Both educated, High IQ guys, with loads of talent
Nick Jackson played his high school ball, at the Lovett school in Atlanta. Tuition is like $40, 000 a year, but his parents are educated business owners. He’s best friends with the Ravens Safety Kyle Hamilton. This guy will be a keeper for the Bucs, he’s as solid as they come. And eventually, he will become move on to an executive role as Shelton Quarles did with the Bucs..

  15. First Last Says:

Could be mental? I thought reddit said he was healthy and ready to go in the twitter announcement.

  16. Beeej Says:

Meanwhile Jihad Campbell played all thru camp and the exhibition games, looks to be week 1 starter if Dean can’t go

  17. Letsbuccingo Says:

Looks like our “D” will be our Achilles heel again.

    ^^^^^^^^
Are you his agent? If not, you should be!

    Nick Jackson stands out!

  20. LakelandBuc Says:

    Dennis plays good alongside LVD

But in the Preseason games, Dennis play was horrific, to say the least. We need OLB who can hold their own, not feeding off LVD. I think we keep Jackson, and Bullock goes to PS. And next season, or later this season, Bullock goes to the active roster. Bullock is not as polished, or experienced as Jackson. But eventually he will get there

  21. Scott Says:

I think they saw some promise in the young guys. Some of those guys in preseason were playing really well. I forget who.

  22. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    And there goes Nick Jackson.

  23. BucsFan81 Says:

Should have drafted LVD replacement they been tinkering for years with this crap LB group from Devin white and Kwon Alexander. No one has stuck but David.

  24. infomeplease Says:

No great loss, he didn’t practice or play in preseason games, what good is he? Another injury player to stand on the sidelines?

  25. infomeplease Says:

Jackson and Bullock will make the team or practice squad. They look capable of decent play!

  26. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

ILB has been devalued as a position in the draft same as RB. It’s been a draft trend the last 8-10 years

  27. StickinUp4Centers Says:

“Meanwhile Jihad Campbell played all thru camp and the exhibition games, looks to be week 1 starter if Dean can’t go”

True, but drafting Campbell would mean no EE and that would leave the Bucs WRs as Evans, Sterling Sheppard, and Tez Johnson.

  28. toopanca Says:

Many were adamantly posting that Campbell should not be taken because would be a wasted pick in rehab until the bye week. That was crap!

He may yet prove to be a rookie bust or be injured again. But, he has been some first team snaps and is competing to become a starter.

If he wins the starting position, that means the Bucs may pay for letting him fall to Philly as the Bucs may play against the Eagles in both the regular season and the playoffs.

And, yes, the Bucs would have missed out on Egbuka, but there was more high quality draft depth at WR than at ILB.

  29. David Says:

Not surprising if you can’t play.

Jackson and Bullock have shown a lot of promise. Especially Jackson. He’s been making tackles, got an INT, a sack in 2 different games, breaking up passes, tackles for loss, plays much faster than his 40 time…
BUT………… did they just release him too? That would be shocking. I just saw that somewhere, but I can’t find it anywhere else so I’m not sure.

  30. Dd565 Says:

Is this a good time to tell everyone we cut Nick Jackson😂

  31. infomeplease Says:

Nick Jackson has now been cut too.

  32. Larrd Says:

Jackson missed at least one tackle pretty bad Saturday. I thought he had not been drafted due to lack of speed.

I also thought I saw Bullock calling plays Saturday. That could have been a big factor.

  33. Pewter Power Says:

Depending on David at 34 to not get hurt in a season of hopes like this is crazy to me with one of the worst positions of depth last year well good luck they’ll be no excuses this year Bowles none

  34. GoneGator Says:

A little concerned about LBs and safeties @ this point.

  35. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Y’all are overreacting and taking these cuts at face value, when we have one of the craftiest front offices in all the land. Veterans don’t hit the waiver wire, so when you cut a vet with > 4 years in the league, he doesn’t hit waivers meaning he can be brought right back onto the PS.

You’d do this to keep a player with < 4 years from hitting waivers and being poached, even if the plan is to keep him on the practice squad.

  36. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

    Calm down
The guy never even enter the practice field for us… It’s not like we lost something

  37. Smarter than Joe Says:

Licht paying an injured Godwin has hurt the D, can’t fill holes when you are paying/hoping and praying he comes back from the injury (AGAIN)

Money given to a player who will miss a handful of games when you have holes at pass rusher, LB and DB is plain stupid

  38. White Tiger Says:

I think Licht may have his eye on a FA after cutdown.

  39. unbelievable Says:

This has been the weakest position group in terms of our depth all offseason long… Will be interesting to see what scrubs they find to try to fill out some depth there.

Or will the hubris of Jason Licht / Todd Bowles win out, and they’ll just go into the season with only 3 ILBs on the the entire roster?

  40. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

We def carried 4 ILBs last year, and the year before that, and the year before that and the year before that. DL, OLB, CB, S, .>>>>> ILB

    Dennis
    David
    Grier
    Jones.

  41. Gipper Says:

The pre-season defense looked familiar. Get it that this was 2nd and 3rd string players. Does Todd Bowles system forbid tight coverage and solid tackling? Everyone knew that Bucs defense needed a major overhaul. This defense still needs a lot more than Reddick who has been oversold on these pages. We are going to find out very soon that the defense will be less than average in 2025. Nothing against Ebuka who will be a nice player, but Bucs needed an impact defender at 19.

  42. Jw94buc Says:

To be fair, Jason Licht and Todd Bowles have far more inside knowledge on releases throughout the league. Then we do. Still two weeks before the season starts. Stay the course.

  43. Jeff Says:

This will end poorly. Dude was a clown. Off field injury. How stupid can one be

  44. adam from ny Says:

    jackson and bullock are wet…

now you gotta go get kyzir white…

the mistake was not getting him earlier so he could go thru camp with the squad

  45. Chris Cross Says:

It is possible that the Bucs have reached an agreement with Hall, A. Walker,
Opeta, and Trask to temporarily cut them and then bring them back since they have 4 or more years and are not subject to be drafted from the practice squad

  46. Rod Munch Says:

I didn’t read all the comments, but with Walker injured all offseason and being a vet, if he was on the roster for game 1, it means they’d have to guarantee his contract for the entire season. They claim he’s healthy, so it’s not an injury settlement, so it means the can be brought back after week 1, which is probably likely if they do in fact like him and he is in fact healthy.

  47. Ranger Says:

@Chris it sounds like they are moving on from Trask it’s an injury settlement which is also why they weren’t able to trade him instead to get something for him

  48. Ranger Says:

Nick Jackson being cut as well shocked me but it sounds like Bullock was the better special teams player, had more special teams tackles and since they were essentially almost even like a 1a 1b in the coaches eyes the special teams play made the difference since that’s what you want your 4th ilb doing mostly. Perhaps they also felt that they could sneak Nick onto the PS since he was a tryout player 🤷🏼‍♂️

  49. No Mercy Says:

Dangggggg bro! Couldn’t even get a game with Lavonte that’s really sad. Gotta take care of your body it’s your money maker
