Will Gholston Found A Job

July 28th, 2025

“Ira, guess where I’m working?”

One unsung foundational player of the Bucs’ resurgence this decade was defensive lineman Will Gholston.

He is exactly what former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter called him: “a glue guy.” A glue guy may not be a star and he may not be flashy but glue guys do their job and show up week in and week out to become key pieces of a winning team.

That was Gholston. And in training camp this summer, Joe is sad Gholston isn’t around. Barring a slew of injuries to the defensive front, Gholston’s Bucs days are over.

How does Joe know? You don’t give away a long-time vet’s number to a punter after the guy spent 12 years on your team and won a Super Bowl ring if he might return. And that’s what the Bucs did.

Gholston was a Bucs fourth-round pick in 2013. Only Lavonte David had more tenure with the Bucs. Great value there for a fourth-round pick, huh?

Well, it seems from Andy Villamarzo of On3/Rivals, Gholston got a job locally in football, just not with the Bucs. Gholston is on the football staff at Sickles High School.

About a year ago, Gholston said he wanted to get into coaching, starting with high school where he thought he could have a bigger impact.

Joe thinks holston would be a perfect high school coach. Joe isn’t sure if folks know much about Gholston’s background but he came from harsh conditions in Detroit. There, Gholston often bounced from house to house, living with relatives so he could have a roof over his head. For stretches, he was homeless.

Since college at Michigan State, Gholston has made Tampa his home and been a philanthropic guy.

If anyone could relate to kids in unfortunate conditions and maybe get through to them, it is Gholston.

Joe is sad football’s Father Time caught up with Gholston. But it is cool to see Gholston working with youngsters and maybe helping to save a kid’s future.

To be honest in my opinion Will Gholston is still better than Logan hall. He is one of the best run stoppers we ever had. I don’t think Hall will ever be able to match him. Sometimes in life you just have to make way for youth. Every Buccaneer fan wishes you the best Big Will.

  16. D-Rok Says:

Love me some Gholston. As solid as a player he was, good at NFL level but not elite, he was a much better person off the field and a great family man.

The NFL needs more players who epitomize Mr. Gholston. He’s a class act.

  17. D-Rome Says:

Nice article, Joe. I almost can’t believe Gholston won’t be on the roster. I’m glad he stuck with the team and has a ring to show for it.
