Todd Bowles Got His Picks Today

July 27th, 2025

Bucs CB Jacob Parrish wipes his brow after a steamy practice today, highlighted by his strong pick.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles, since his team came up short against the Commandos last year in the playoffs, has been irked about the lack of picks by his defensive backs.

He wants more.

So today, Bowles had to smile when he saw two of his young defensive backs, a rookie and a second-year man, get picks when the quarterback thought he had an opening.

First was Jacob Parrish, the rookie third-round pick. When Joe saw the play, it almost looked like he baited Kyle Trask to throw. Trask had Tez Johnson open along the right sideline. Parrish had played a bit short of Johnson. So Trask tried to float a pass over Parrish’s head. Instead, Parrish laid out, dove, and got the pick.

It was a helluva recovery by Parrish.

The Kansas State product told Joe he didn’t try to bait Trask.

“No, he was trying to float it over me,” Parrish said of his pick. “I just did a good job of coming back for it.”

Later in red zone drills, Trask again tried to float a touchdown pass to the right sideline. Joe isn’t sure if Trask had too much air under the ball but Tykee Smith reached out and grabbed the pass.

Really nice play. Almost looked like Smith one-handed it from Joe’s angle, reaching over with his right hand. Whoever manufactured Smith’s glove knew how to make a good sticky glove.

I really feel our Secondary will be a strength this season. Barring injuries, they should be able to match up with any team and any scheme. Bowles is a Zone-blitzing master but we also have a few youngsters who can play man-up. Excited to see the kind of exotic looks Bowles is going to cook up with a healthy AWJr and our newer weapons!

I can’t help but think, Jacob Parrish might be better than Benjamin Morrison.

    @Bama

Or perhaps the possibility they are BOTH equally talent and Jason has hit a parlay! I recall Davis and Dean were not that far apart. Perhaps the Bucs have found a new pair of SB CB’s.

One thing seems certain. The Bucs absolutely have found some depth in the defensive backfield across the board…Safety…DB…Nickel…depth everywhere.

    Trask should be cut.

    Joking.

  6. Teacherman Says:

    We need a real backup.

And we shouldn’t have re-signed Trask

And he was a wasted 2nd round pick.

    Trask sounds terrible

  8. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker has threw more picks than Kyle Trask but ok lol 🤣🤣 he needs to be cut!!

  9. Fred McNeil Says:

Trask had a bad day. That ballzack kid is terrible.

Takeaways need to be commonplace with this team, the secondary needs to be taught takeaway techniques. Practice drills of competing for the ball should be daily. It reflects on Bowless that our team lacks interceptions. Iron sharpens iron.

  11. GoneGator Says:

Dean, Zyon, Morrison, Parrish, Hall, Vildor…. That’s shaping up to be quite the group potentially. Add Tykee and Winfield over the top and I feel confident our secondary will be a strength this year. 🤘🏼

In the meantime expect to hear a lot the same old criticisms of Todd ie. Swiss cheese/soft zone blah blah blah and calls for “press man” from people who don’t seem to understand the very real disadvantages of man coverage.

trask the poor mans version of jameis

  13. First Last Says:

I kind of miss all of the Gator fans in here raging about Kyle Trask. But honestly, he has a sweet gig, and gets to travel around on an nfl team and not sacrifice his body. What more can you ask as a fan than for your favorite player to be treated so well

  14. BucsFanSince76 Says:

All the Trask haters…Justified..maybe….MAYBE NOT…Everyone thought Kyle Pitts was the real star on the Gators team…After four years 2600 yds and 10 tds….I think Trask was the talent for the Gators….But I guess time will tell.

  15. JD Still Says:

Let’s see now, that makes three interceptions for Kyle in four days of practices ( and one of those today was disputed), and seven for Mayfield in four days , I didn’t bother to count fumbles and strips because only one of them had any.

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

Really like the guys we have in the secondary this year.
Just my opinion, but I hope we get Dean outta there soon.
I think he will have a bad influence on our young guys.

  17. ballwasher61 Says:

Trask has the arm strength, it just sounds like he’s lollipoping it out there, don’t know without seeing it but from what Joe is reporting it sure seems like it.

  18. Joe Says:

Trask has the arm strength, it just sounds like he’s lolliping it out there,

Don’t think he was lollipopping. The pass that Parrish picked was more Parrish making a helluva play as opposed to Trask screwing up. Sort of feel the same way about Tykee Smith’s pick. Helluva play by Smith.

In OTAs Trask was lollipopping deep passes. A lot.

  19. Aqualung Says:

This could be a hall of fame CB and Safety group. As long as their coach wants them to be eating hot dogs in the end zone while the edge rushers cover the short and middle empty zones. It’s jeenius.
