Todd Bowles: Glazers Tore Up His Old Contract, And Jason Licht’s
July 22nd, 2025It’s rare for any shred of detail to come out of One Buc Palace when it comes to head coach or general manager contracts.
Some teams are open about them, but not Tampa Bay.
Yesterday, however, Joe asked Todd Bowles about his new deal and Bowles noted that Team Glazer really went all-in on the new deals for Bowles and Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht in June.
They weren’t just traditional “extensions” as the team announced in June, and Bowles confirmed he had two years remaining on his deal signed in 2023.
Bowles said the new contract wasn’t a surprise and had been talked about by both sides.
“They’ve been great,” Bowles said, referring to Team Glazer. “I mean, they tore up me and Jason’s contract and we had two years left. So, that was great on their apart and [I’m] very appreciative for me and Jason.”
Bowles also talked about how he’s never been given expectations or a firm win total demand from ownership.
“They don’t give you expectations,” Bowles said of the Glazers. “They’ve been very supportive more than anything else rather than, ‘We expect this or we expect that.’ They never say that. They always are very supportive of what we do and understand and see the big picture. And we try to communicate, me and Jason, and we’re very honest as far as us talking to them. And we have a good relationship. But they never give us expectations that way. And I’m sure it’s a 10-7 team [and] they expect to win. But 10-7 means nothing. It’s year-to-year. I don’t care if you win a Super Bowl. The next year you got to prove yourself over again. And we got to prove ourselves over again, but we got to be a lot better finishing out ballgames.”

“ we got to be a lot better finishing out ballgames”. Sounds like this is a focus this year – maybe this is something the Glazers reinforced with Todd? Finish games, win night games, better pass D.

Can’t say it enough. This was such a great interview.

What Todd has proven is that his defense sucks and is getting worse. Prove the fix!
On the plus side, he knows his defense is going to give up points and has been supportive of an offense that scores points (except when the game is on the line and then he relies on his pitiful defense).
Genius.

“… me and Jason”
I don’t know why that stuck out to me when I read that…
Lets hope the defense can shut down rookie or bottom tier QBs this year to ensure the easy wins.

Excellent decision by the Glazers

I wonder why they can’t get the moldy smell out of the weight room and locker room?

Did anyone explain to Bowles that you don’t get rewarded for keeping your time outs.

Glazers seem like great owners. Smart too.
Jason has done a helluva job the last few years restocking the talent we lost after the SB.
and
Todd’s done a helluva job keep us competitive when we were predicted to be horrible (not decent, not good, not a playoff team) for years….. even after injuries galore – which DO matter.
The chargers had the best defense in the league points wise…
@ 17.7 ppg
We were 16th @ 22.6
But we actually improved defensively as the season wore on =
17.75 PPG for the last 9 games!
I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what coach can do with healthier, more talented players on the D.

The owners seem to have learned a lot from those dark days of coaching roulette. Stay the course and keep learning and working to improve.

Malcolm was a good owner. The Glazer boys and Darcy like, Jason as GM have grown into doing a great job. The jury is still kinda out on Bowles he’s has shown some improvement and is working on his shortcomings but still has to put it all together. I like the extension for both.

BA steadied the ship. Continue with consistency. I am glad to see it.

The Glazers will rue the day they did that. Neither of these guys deserved a new contract. FFS, Bowles should’ve been fired.

Apparently the Glazers occasionally get really hammered and black out.

Following Brady,
These two men have built a great culture. Now, they need to bring home 2 SB wins within the next 3 years.
I think that we are better prepared for injuries this season.
