Three Throwback Games In 2025!

July 18th, 2025

Road throwbacks, too.

The Bucs threw Joe a curveball this month.

Joe heard rumors via Twitter the Bucs would bring back the Steve Spurrier white throwbacks. Cool. Joe wondered for what road game they would be used.

At times (not many), NFL teams have worn road throwbacks. Occasionally, this was because the home team was also wearing throwbacks. The visitors wanted to make the throwback experience complete.

So when the Bucs announced the Spurrier unis would be worn for the home opener against the Jets to commemorate the 50th Bucs season, Joe thought he got his initial hunch wrong.

Well, guess again. The Bucs announced yesterday in Week 5 at Seattle on Oct. 5, Tampa Bay will also wear the Spurrier throwbacks. It will be a throwback game, as Seattle will wear its beautiful original uniforms (Seattle’s current uniforms aren’t very good).

Back when the Bucs were born in 1976, it was Seattle’s first year, too. And the NFL had the Bucs at the Seahawks to kick off that season.

So that makes three games the Bucs will wear throwbacks. The third game is Week 15 on Dec. 11, when the Bucs host the Dixie Chicks. The Bucs will wear the beautiful creamsicles.

Why on earth would we pay tribute to an 0-14 season? It’s like when they do those hair metal band reunion tours. It wasn’t good the first time. In fact it was ridiculed. I mean I know it’s about money/merch and all the owners copy each other but…we are not the Steelers.

  2. Steven007 Says:

And lest we forget, we were in the AFC that first year. Seahawks were in the NFC. Then they switched the next year. I had a lunch box with the original configuration. Wish I’d saved it.

  3. Aqualung Says:

So, there’s 3 losses in the bank.

  4. Steven #55 Says:

So 3 throw back games (2 in white 1 in creamsicle)
Will we have a Pewter Alternate this year?

  5. Mike C Says:

B …….. It is our history

  6. adam from ny Says:

they should do a stadium commercial of baker working a concession stand and selling creamsicle ice pops…

time to bring back the baker commercials……………maybe

  7. heyjude Says:

Love the video! Getting a great feeling about the Creamsicles.

adam from ny – Agreed, great idea. And not only Baker. Include current Bucs and previous players racing each other to get the ice pops from him.

They are supposed to be giving out ice pops at the public trainings. I wonder if they will be creamsicles?

  8. mj Says:

3 losses in the bank for sure, we never win in those ugly loser uniforms, if i never saw them again it would be too soon!! leeman bennett and ray perkins rip

  9. bucnjim Says:

For those of us around back then this is a nightmare not some cool trendy history repeat. Most years we were begging for a 8-8 season. By December though we were usually a three or four win team. At one point we were the worst team in pro sports history. The biggest joke in the news would be look at what these idiots did in their game this week. So while I appreciate the young fans who think these throwbacks are something great, just remember those of us who sat through decades of 2-14 seasons.

  10. August1976Buc Says:

The Jersey that represents Pro Sports infamy, not just NFL football 0-14.

I did not mind the whites back in the day until loss after loss,
whole seasons of 0 for the season, and others 1-7 and 1-7.

    Nasty loser legacy….

Please Bucs do not go 0-15 in these things.

Hopefully it only takes 50 years to get a win in theses things.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  11. Colonel Angus Says:

    Love it

  12. PSL Bob Says:

Adam, I love it. Great idea of Baker selling creamsicles. If the advertising gurus see that, they will run with it. Brilliant!!

    Joe?
“Back when the Bucs were born in 1976, it was Seattle’s first year in the league, too. And the NFL had the Bucs at the Seahawks to kick off that season”

They played the Rams in LA for the first Preseason game in 1976, and in Houston for the first reg season game.

In 1984 Hall of Fame game they played the Seahawks, 0-38 loss.

  14. BillyBucco Says:

Eventually they wipe away the memories of disaster.
I personally believe they are so good this year they could all wear diapers and still whoop some ass.

  15. KABucs Says:

It’s just more to prove. Plus the color of your uniforms isn’t going to affect your play, all that stuff is random. You guys are superstitious like a bunch of old gypsy ladies.
Did you read your tea leaves this morning? What did your horoscope say? 🙄

If we’re a good team, we will win games during prime time, we will win games not played at 1:00 p.m. at home, we will win on the road, we will win in white jerseys with orange stripes with red outlining, we will win in creamsicle, we will win close games and we will not let bad teams hang around and barely beat them at the end. We will beat the good teams and we will blow out the bad teams. We will get defensive steps when we need them. Let’s hope we stay healthy and can do all these things. Because if the Bucs are good team, none of this stupid stuff should hold them back. If they aren’t a good team, and I think it will take injuries to make them that, it will unfortunately be like last season. We had a couple pretty bad games last year where we didn’t play like we should, I don’t recall seeing them in creamsicle when they played the Cowboys at the end of the season. Great teams are consistent.

  16. Pelsbuc61 Says:

History is history. You can’t change all the losing but But won their first game ever in those unis. I’m psyched to see these throwbacks.

  17. Lefty Says:

Bunch of dorks complaining about the nostalgic creamsicles, it’s where we came from and what we are.

  18. Bosch Says:

Red and orange just clash. Plain and simple. Currently the ugliest uniform belong to the Chiefs. Back in the day, the Bucs offered some competition in that regard.

That said, I don’t think the choice of uniforms has any bearing on the outcome of the game. Not even when color blind Vinny Testaverde was the QB.

  19. DBS Says:

Sorry.. It is not what we are. We have won 2 Super Bowls and are winners. Not the putrid losers represented in those uniforms or the Burger King uniforms.

  20. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Bosch

    🌈

    Red and orange on top.

  21. ChiBuc Says:

What a bunch of negative Nelly fashionistas! This is great. Acknowledge and own your past/roots and go/grow from there.

Can you imagine a QB being taken down like Zorn in that clip and not getting a flag? Better yet, I believe Selmon is literally tackling McKinnis (?) by his face mask and the back of his helmet. Love it!

Now I need a Bucky 1976 away jersey. LFG!!

  22. Buc1987 Says:

It’s on the players whether to win or lose no matter what jersey they’re wearing.

    Bring on the creams!

  23. AnotherJoeBucsFan Says:

per Chat GPT, Pastel colors, and pink in particular, can have a positive influence on mood, promoting feelings of calmness, happiness, and optimism. do you remember the lyrics to the Bucs song? “We’re in trouble, that’s ok. We can pull it out.” lol. The throwback all whites will look clean on this year’s team. I loved the uni’s when we switched over to the red and pewter.

  24. Saskbucs Says:

I love it. If this team loses games because of the jersey they are wearing, they aren’t winning the SB anyway. That would be incredible mental weakness! No one on the team was alive during those early losing years. The players prolly love the retro look and this stuff sells!

My wife might care for 10 minutes just to see the throwback fashion. Gonna look great vs that retro Seahawks blue.

Jets throwbacks in green would also look nice out there in week 3 Tampa.

  25. FairMinded Says:

Burn the creamsicles. We have a horrendous record not only in those games, but the subsequent 2-3 games post creamsicle games. Joe please check and tell me if my memory is wrong on this

  26. ChiBuc Says:

Creamsicles FOREVER!! Red is not original, in every sense.

  27. Tackleblockwin Says:

Seems to me play better in our white jerseys. Plus they look way better. Same with our current uniforms. White jerseys and pewter pants.

  28. Itzok Says:

0-3 , never wear these. They are cursed. They look awful. To top it off we will probably lose some players to season ending injuries wearing these. Wear it once and then burn them.

  29. Bosch Says:

    Dooosh.

I guess I must be slow. Dunno what you mean.

  30. Anyhony Says:

We were the fastest expansion team to reach the conference championship game in these uniforms!!! WORST TO FIRST BITCHES in these glorious creamsicles.

  31. ChiBuc Says:

Throwback season!! 17 games! An undefeated year! Bucco Bruce swinging his sword and waving a jolly roger as he swashbuckles a victory parade over the Platt St Bridge.

Blaming a uniform color for losses is just dumb. Ride or die, color be damned

  32. Dreambig Says:

I am an old fart and was 14 years old in 1976 and remember this horrible time frame well. Our glorious franchise went 0-26 before whipping the Saints and getting Hank Stram fired. We absolutely sucked and those uniforms came to represent the suck. It was like the creamsicle represented weakness. When we changed uniforms it was at least one psychological hurdle was removed and the team got better. Whether it was the uniforms or not, I hate these throw back games. It’s like celebrating the depression or Perl Harbor.
The only good part of these games besides a few great players like Leroy Selmon was John McKay’s funny quips. Reporter: What do you think of the teams execution? “McKay: I am all for it!” LOL!

  33. Chris Says:

I like the idea of throwback uni’s but 3 times is to much our current white and pewter and red with pewter are so clean and we win in them

  34. View from 132 Says:

Seattle makes sense. Three games do not. Hate the winking pirate logo.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

“Seattle will wear its beautiful original uniforms”

Those uniforms were not beautiful at the time, and are still not beautiful. Yeah, they’re better than what they have now, but a boring gray uniform, playing a boring gray dome, watching anything to do with the Seahawks back then was just depressing.

With that said, for a one off, it’s fun to see – but the Bucs uniforms are beautiful, the Chargers uniforms are beautiful, the Seahawks are just boring.

  36. toopanca Says:

I am not a big fan of the original uniforms. I had rather see them play in red or pewter.

But, these original uniforms should not be infamous.

Yes, expansion teams usually do poorly at first. But, remember what the Bucs accomplished in year three while wearing those uniforms – the first post-merger expansion team to win a division title, a playoff game, and to host and play in a conference championship game, which was accomplished during the 1979 season. And, that defense was touch – they lost the NFC Conference Championship Game 9-0; no touchdowns surrendered.
