NFL Execs, Coaches And Scouts Vote Tristan Wirfs Best Offensive Tackle In The NFL

July 13th, 2025

Runaway winner.

This feels a little bittersweet given the knee injury to Tristan Wirfs that has rattled so many Bucs fans.

Has Wirfs peaked? Joe sure hopes not.

Via ESPN.com‘s annual survey of 70 coaches, suits and scouts, Wirfs was voted the No. 1 offensive tackle in the NFL, Jeremy Fowler released this morning.

Of the 24 tackles that got a top-10 vote, Wirfs led the way. Bucs right tackle Luke Goedeke got at least one vote, though he was ranked below the honorable mention group.

1. Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Age: 26 | Last year’s ranking: 4

Wirfs earning first-team All-Pro honors at left and right tackle is an incredible feat. No other player in NFL history has done that. Perhaps even more impressive: Wirfs did so in his second NFL season of playing each position (2021, 2024), showing a Doogie Howser level of quick learning.

ESPN Research attributed two sacks to Wirfs, an impressive number for a left tackle. His 95.9 pass block win rate led all tackles.

“He doesn’t have the flashy plays that Sewell has, but everything is so easy to him,” an NFC executive said. “He can handle whatever you want out there and won’t look particularly stressed doing it. Rare combination of size and athleticism.”

…Wirfs is the game’s highest-paid tackle at $28.125 million per year.

As expected, Penei Sewell of the Lions was behind Wirfs and Lane Johnson (Eagles) was No. 3.

No argument here. The best I have seen.

  2. Jeffs grandpa Says:

So the #2 and 3 tackles are both right tackles

  3. Bucs4Ever Says:

    Earned and well deserved recognition.

Again, he is irreplaceable and the anchor of our online.

Disappointed in how his injury was treated.

  4. Truth be Told Says:

Yes, he is a complete stud. Maybe just the best offensive lineman ever for this franchise. And have to be concerned about how his injury was treated this off-season that is definitely some egg on our face. We should be OK though with how strong offenses until he gets back. Go Bucs!

  5. Stpetematt Says:

It really does look effortless for him at times. Especially pass protection.

  6. Stpetematt Says:

It’s like defensive linemen run into him with absolutely everything they have and only move him 2 inches, then give up, lol.

  7. Jeff Says:

He was prior to his knee surgery. We have no idea how serious this injury is and if Wirfs will ever be the same again.

  8. Allen Lofton Says:

It’s amazing that 3 tackles were taken ahead of him. He was clearly better then them which tells you allot about the GM’s picking ahead of the Bucs.

There’s plenty of mediocrity in the NFL, especially so with so called sports writers and evaluators of talent.

    🏆🏈🏆🏈🏆

  10. mj Says:

let’s hope his knee recovers 100%

  11. Beeej Says:

Of the 4 first round tackles in that draft, was Jason targeting Wirfs the whole time?

  12. adam from ny Says:

    wirfs is like suh…

    it’s such a common phrase that’s thrown around…but he’s “just built different”…

he’s kinda just like an agile human tree trunk bookending the 5 man crew…

suh was built different and we were lucky we had him for a couple years…

and big tristan, also built different, could be a buc for life if everything goes as planned

  13. adam from ny Says:

also i think he’s been a little underrated league wide…

in the sense that many fanbases aren’t in the know on just how good he is…

    good to see the ranking…

i do think the league knows tho…

if i talk football with a random head, and LT’s come up…i mention wirfs as being the best, and most people just give me a blank george jetson stare – and the statement bounces back my way like mailer daemon sent it 🙂

  14. adam from ny Says:

also goedeke is waaay underrated and overlooked by media on the other end, as if wirfs is all that exists as a tackle in tampa

  15. Stpetematt Says:

Goedeke is still catching up to Wirfs. I think he will get there too.

And Jeff is a Neolithic incompetent.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

Wirf’s injury occurred during the 49ers game in week 10, leading him to miss one game. He made a strong comeback and played excellent in the following seven games, earning this recognition for his efforts. Unless the top orthopedic surgeon in the world made significant errors during the surgery—though reports indicate that everything went smoothly—it’s important to consider that Jeff’s comments may be an attempt to gain attention.

  17. Vanessa Anne Says:

Darn right Tristan is the best tackle in the NFL.

(As if there was ever any question about that. 🤪)

    Congratulations, Tristan!!

Oh, and I agree with Adam from NY, that Luke is very underrated.

  18. BuckyBuc Says:

the GOAT OT already in Bucs history and possibly in the NFL if he can stay healthy

  19. Rod Munch Says:

Ira is going to have an easy time making the case for Wirfs.
