Lavonte David Says He’s A Hall Of Famer

July 20th, 2025

It sounds like Lavonte David is tossing some of his humble nature in the trash.

Sure, he’s the same ol’ David, soft-spoken, reasoned and the opposite of a blowhard, but it’s obvious now that David wants to be appreciated by a lot more than Bucs fans, ex-players and a handful of media types.

David told CBS Sports HQ last week that he never invested much time thinking of accolades until recently.

Yeah, David knew he was hosed from Pro Bowls while other linebackers hauled in All-Pro honors with stats similar to his. But steady Pro Football Hall of Fame chatter shoved in David’s face has him realizing he belongs in Canton.

“Now, people are saying it’s toward the end of my career, so they’re just trying to like stack it all up and see if I can earn a gold jacket,” David said. “So it gets brought to me. It gets asked of me frequently. And when I really like sit down and think about, yeah, I feel like I’m deserving. You know, a lot of people always say it’s the All-Pros and the Pro Bowls and all that stuff, but I feel like that’s something that’s kind of like out of my control. The things that I can control is how I perform on the field. And I honestly feel like the numbers show that.”

When Joe thinks about David’s Hall of Fame case, Joe goes right to tackles for loss and forced fumbles.

David ranks ninth in the NFL in tackles for loss since 1999. And David ranks tied for 27th all-time in forced fumbles. David has 31. That’s impact! Ray Lewis had 19 forced fumbles. Derrick Brooks had 24. Luke Kuechly had 7 (seven).

Joe also thinks successfully keeping Travis Kelce out of the end zone in a Super Bowl should also be a part of David’s eventual Hall of Fame case, and hopefully a second ring.

    He’s obviously correct.

Look at his career numbers compared to Luke Kuechly.

(Ignoring the number of Probowls & AllPro’s). Which LVD should have more of each at this point.

    Joe!

    What a tease!

No video link to the Kelsey play??? 🙂

Is there a shaking your head emoji?

As to the argument of the article, duhhh! They should already have him fitted for the jacket.

  3. Whatevs Says:

YES. This is not debatable. If he had these stats while playing for Dallas, NYG, or Bal the NFL would have him as a first ballot HoF without question.

  4. toopanca Says:

Since the national media types that do the voting seem to have blinders on that block out their view of David, just make it easy for them to get a better view. The spotlights of a 2025 Super Bowl should be a great help for opening their eyes.

  5. LakelandBuc Says:

It seems like Lavonte is a lock to get in

Then again, it seems like a lock for Simeon Rice to get kn

    Forget Luke!
Compare his numbers to Derrick Brooks.

Ira needs to start talking him up now with his fellow voters. I think it is going to be a hard sell and LVD won’t be first ballot because of the lack of respect the Bucs get. I am still unhappy with how long it took Ronde to get in and the fact that Sim can’t get any recognition.

  8. LakelandBuc Says:

I been lost respect for these Hall of Fame voters

How can Darrelle Revis be a first time ballot Hall of Fame?

What exactly did he do, other than the ” Revis Island” hype
First team All- Pro season after season
All because of the New York media hype
Sauce Gardner is getting the same hype, for nothing

  9. Eric Smith Says:

It’s absolutely ludicrous if he not inducted one day! Rice not in the hall is an absolute joke! David not in just shut the doors because now it’s a clown show! Show me one LB who has played better since he came in the league I’ll wait a popularity contest (pro bowl) should mean absolutely nothing!

  10. Pickgrin Says:

Of course LD54 is a HOFer!

Before the end of this season, Lavonte will be 4th all time in solo tackles and 4th all time in Tackles for Loss. (btw – every other TFL career leader in the top 13 not named Aaron Donald was a DE/Edge rusher)

  11. Nano107 Says:

    He is simple as that

  12. Jeff Says:

Diocese have the pro bowls. He’ll never have a gold jacket.

  13. ReeeBarrr Says:

    LVD is top shelf

  14. Aqualung Says:

And he’s doing all this while the rest of his mates aren’t getting coached up. He’s thriving in spite of you know who.

  15. Keepitabean Says:

Agree on the Sauce Gardner hype. Just don’t see it. Revis tho, there was a point when QBs didn’t even look to his side. Had a better chance completin a spike.

  16. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    Second ring! LFG

  17. adam from ny Says:

if them boys (LVD and ME13) win another superbowl……ira will not have to rally ’round the family with a pocket full of shells

    #WinAndTheyreIn

  18. Travis Says:

LD has identical stats to Wagner except he has way more forced fumbles and tackles for loss.

  19. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    Support

  20. Bojim Says:

    He belongs

  21. The Big Sombreo Says:

    “I feel like I’m deserving”

    Still humble!

  22. View from 132 Says:

It’s not for stats or longevity… it should be the dudes that take over games. He needs the big play that turns the big game, not just 15 tackles down the field. I’d love to see him get the pick 6 or the sack that changes the playoffs. But where is that level of dominance?
