High Goals For Benjamin Morrison
July 6th, 2025Benjamin Morrison is not a win-the-day, one-day-at-a-time kind of guy.
Joe’s not saying the Bucs’ rookie cornerback is committed to grinding though daily work and goals, just that Morrison is a big-time dreamer.
Tampa Bay’s second-round pick had a dream board/vision board before being drafted, as explained in a University of Notre Dame video, and he’s isn’t shy about detailing how he believes every level of NFL greatness is within his grasp.
“I want to lead the NFL in interceptions one day. I want to be the man of the year, one year, Pro Bowl multiple times, All-Pro, Super Bowl champ and Hall of Fame jacket,” Morrison said. “So kind of all the dreams [kids] dream of, but I feel me, it’s just like I’ve never felt like something was out of reach. I always felt I could attain anything I put my mind to. So all of those are crazy teams to have; I think I’m going to attain them.”
Man, Joe can only imagine the fire that will burn in talented Morrison when training camp begins and he’s looking up at Jamel Dean in a starting role, and he sees fellow rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish (Round 3) shining as a favorite of coaches.
Lotta competition coming to camp, which kicks off in 17 short days.

I see him as a Darrell Green type of player AND person

Todd Bowles played in the secondary for awhile with the Great Darrell Green. Seems like I remember the two of them colliding trying to make a play and Green came out the worst for it. Think he was knocked out for the rest of the season. When our defense is flying around this season remember they are learning defense from someone who knows what flying around on defense looks like.

Wait until he learns the Tampa 20.
20 yards off the receiver so he doesn’t beat you deep. That will cement his legacy.

With adding Reddick on the line and Morrison and Parrish in the secondary this D is going to be really good, season can’t come soon enough. LFG!!!!

He can’t accomplish any of those goals sitting behind Dean, that’s why he won’t. He was drafted to replace Dean, not back him up. Morrison will be the opening day starter, let the dreams begin.

I would venture to guess that that is the vision board of every NFL player. Of course with position specific goals (eg ints, tds, yds rushing, SACKS….)

Dean is soft.

Lofty goals, just accomplishing any pair of those would make Morrison a legend as a Buc. Gotta show out if you want to show up

What’s wrong with playing 20 yards off the receiver if they need 30 for a first down?
July 6th, 2025 at 6:19 pm
He’s going to lead the league in standing around and not moving unless Bowles changes the defense back to being an aggressive man-to-man defense.

ballwasher LOL.
Problem is it’s 5 yards for a first down.
If they needed 30, the CBs would be in the bleachers selling beer.

There are a bunch of things being said about our upcoming defense. I want to wait and see what I can learn during training camp. There is a lot of buzz around all of this year’s draft class. Can’t wait to see a better picture of what we have.

Man, wish I could see some camp practices. The hype and expectations continue to climb. I am usually buying it and this year is no different.
Bucs 31 Falcons 13
Penix – 2 INT and sacked 5 times.

Aqualung I think Bowles was telling the truth when he said he is going to put a stop to DBs playing 8-10 yards off receivers this season. It has to be addressed that’s for sure. I think it will be. You CANNOT do that and claim your playing man bump. I do understand some of it is trying to disguise man with what is supposed to appear to be zone but there were some plays where they were just way to far off their man. A lot of people complained the Bucs didn’t go pass rush in rnd. one but if you look at the numbers and the league average of time every QB held the ball from snap to release you will find that Bucs opponents were able to get rid of the ball in less time than the league average. That presents two possibilities. One the DBs were playing to soft and two the DBs were not capable of covering their man very long. Hopefully with the new blood and better health in the secondary QBs will have to hold the ball at least the league average. That will help the pass rush tremendously. YaYa,s top five in pressures turns into more sacks. I think the Bucs did the right thing by not going pass rush in the first round because there really wasn’t the talent at 17th compared to other positions Of course there is always variables in these equations but I do think we will see a much improved defense this season. As always Go Bucs!!

I hope all the rumors about Bowles blowing up his God-awful super soft zone defense are true and the Bucs are in fact returning to an aggressive brand of defensive football. How do you win a SB in 2020 with an aggressive man-to-man defense, and with the same defensive coaches and a number of same players, now lead the league in playing zone – a super soft garbage zone where you stand around and wait for something to happen before you react. How they got from one extreme to another is one of the most baffling things in football. Bowles has been completely broken by that last play of the Rams playoff game when he blew the call, and has coached scared ever since.
