Enough!

July 23rd, 2025

Took matters into own hands.

In the first half of Bucs 11-on-11 drills today on Day 1 of training camp, there was one man who clearly stood above his teammates. That was Mike Evans.

Joe will have more later about how Evans simply gouged and roasted Bucs cornerbacks — starters and prospective starters! Yeah, Joe knows it’s still underwear football. But wow, Evans was on fire.

And it seems Bucs All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield had enough.

While Evans dominated the first half of 11-on-11s, Winfield showed he’s still the All-Pro safety from two seasons ago and that last year’s down year was hopefully an ugly outlier.

Winfield, in the second half of 11-on-11, showed Evans he can hang with him when needed.

On a pass play to the right, Zyon McCollum, who earlier got burned badly by Evans on an inside slant, hung with Evans along the right sideline. McCollum fought with Evans and got the ball into the air.

From somewhere, as if by magic, Winfield raced in and saved the ball just before it touched a blade of grass. Smartly, Winfield was able to keep two feet inbounds.

While others seemed to give up on the play, Winfield bounced to his feet and scored on a pick-six.

On the next play, Winfield took advantage of a Baker Mayfield overthrow to Evans and Winfield got his second pick in as many plays.

It sure looked to Joe like, arguably, the two best Bucs on the field had a mindset to dominate. Evans did first. And Winfield got fed up with Evans working over his defensive back teammates and took it upon himself to right some wrongs.

Quality, quality football by both Evans and Winfield this morning.

Evans Still playing at a prime level. If he can stay healthy and his hamstrings can hold out he can put together another monster season. Dude might still have another 3 years left in him.

Ix-nay on the overthrows, please, Baker! No time like the present to start +not+ throwing interceptions.

Evans game will age better than most receivers in the NFL IMO.

He has elite arm length to go with his height. His wingspan makes him open when other receivers are not. QB’s in the NFL understand how to take advantage of that; Even Jameis Winston.

As his closest peer, DeVante Adams, continues to decline — Evans will continue to be year in and year out one of the elite Red Zone targets. I hope he wants to continue to play.

  16. MelvinJunior Says:

Can he get back to his 2023 self!? I sure do hope so. Now, that would be ELECTRIC, and soooo nice to see. Could make things VERY exciting, and A LOT of fun.

  17. Pickgrin Says:

Great stuff from day 1 – love to hear it!

  18. ballwasher61 Says:

    Great on the Winfield mindset
Evans: 1rst 2000 yd receiver in NFL history. That would be awesome. Just a huge statement to the rest of the league.

  19. ballwasher61 Says:

That means foot on the gas all season long, every single game.

    Iron sharpens iron

  21. Aqualung Says:

Yeah well. Todd will look at the practice film and decide that it’s too risky to play press man coverage and stick to the soft cover zero receivers with pass rushers concepts of the past few seasons.

  22. Vanessa Anne Says:

Sounds like Mike hasn’t lost a step.

And Antoine was hustling like his old self

    Yesssss! 🙂

  23. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

I know the offense will be well and it was only underwear football but how our MLB look? What about Smith back there at safety?

  24. garro Says:

    AWJ!

Dude naver lacks for hustle. Love it!

    Go Bucs!
