Chris Godwin “An Absolute Godsend” To Emeka Egbuka
July 29th, 2025
Bucs WR Chris Godwin mingling with fans after practice Monday.
The contrasting styles are striking.
Two major cogs to the Bucs offense have been relegated to watching practice this summer at Bucs training camp.
First there is left tackle Tristan Wirfs. Naturally, Wirfs is the size of a small barn. There’s no doubt it is Wirfs on the sidelines and with fans after practice. But, just in case someone didn’t notice Wirfs, he’s walking around on crutches and wears his No. 78 red Bucs practice jersey.
Then there is wide receiver Chris Godwin. He’s on the sidelines, too, but he’s almost incognito. He’s wearing standard-issued Bucs gear that anyone could buy off the rack. Godwin, however, is not wearing his practice jersey but often is seen wearing a Bucs cap. Godwin looks more like a Bucs staffer than a Pro Bowl teammate.
Apparently, looks are deceiving. Yesterday rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka raved about how Godwin is working with him in very much a very hands-on way.
As a result, Egbuka says he has learned quite a bit about being a professional from Godwin.
“He’s been an absolute godsend to me,” Egbuka said. “On the sideline, staying in my ear constantly — whether it’s route running, technique or blocking technique, savviness or learning the playbook, whatever the case may be.
“Even if it’s just about life I can ask him any question and I’m getting to know him personally as well. We’re becoming really close friends.”
How much of an impression has Godwin made upon Egbuka? Well, the Ohio State product thinks he won the NFL draft lottery by being picked by the Bucs.
“I don’t think I could’ve been drafted to a better team, better situation,” Egbuka said.
Joe has always been a big Godwin fan but this just further demonstrates his character and professionalism. Would anyone blame Godwin if he moped because he was injured and the Bucs drafted a guy that may replace him one day?
Instead, Godwin has taken it upon himself to be a big brother or an elder for Egbuka, knowing the quicker he gets acclimated to the NFL, the better odds the Bucs win games.
Godwin is a class act.

Bucs team displays truly amazing class, character and a family bond of unselfishness.
Tom Brady truly chanced the culture of the team and Jason Licht has continued by drafting playing who are stand up individuals
Amazing job

Wouldn’t expect anything different from Mr. Godwin. Class act.
July 29th, 2025 at 7:03 am
This whole team is a class act.
July 29th, 2025 at 7:17 am
Yes, Chris is a class act. However, he’s also brimming with confidence. He knows his own capabilities and is thus not threatened to share his knowledge of the game with potential competitors for his job. It will be fun to have both these guys on the field together. LFG!!
BEAT ATLANTA!!!

All you idiots who want them to draft talent above character – this one is for you. Character matters and it makes your TEAM better.

Character and talent combo = home run pick

Good stuff all around. Speaks volumes of Godwin and the rest of our players too. We have the perfect culture and roster. Looking forward to seeing Buka this season.

THEN you picture dudes like Terrell Owens…
July 29th, 2025 at 8:44 am
And we hear about Pearce causing trouble in Atlanta with his own teammates? Shocking. Mort is correct, that’s part of why EE was drafted.

This kid is going to be a star!! A combination of Chris Godwin and St.Brown from Detroit. The future of our offense.

NO team in the NFL compares to the bucs. Talent is always important but true character brews and builds winning teams and dynasties!

Buddha
I’m surprised you got away with that one! LMAO
I think CG has class and DIGNITY to go along with his Pro Bowl Talent.
But one thing that’s mentioned in passing but IMO is way underrated.
CG is SMART!!! He has been smart to work with Jason on his contracts to keep his career and more importantly his FAMILY life in the best possible position.
He’s also smart enough to realize a truth contained in virtually every self help book ever writting including the Bible.
“The more we give, the more we receive.”
I’ll add my mantra…GRATITUDE!!! CG gets it!!!

Great article Joe’s!! Go Bucs

It’s how Vincent Jackson embraced Mike Evans.
It’s how Evans embraced Godwin.
It’s a pay it forward culture in the WR room.

we’ve come a long way since MRSA

Trade Godwin and a 4th round pick for Trey Hendricks
July 29th, 2025 at 3:40 pm
Trey Hendrickson ain’t going nowhere same with Godwin.

Godwin is a Super Bowl champion. He knows what it takes and is sharing with teammates. The mark of a true competitor who is hungry to win. What a time to be a Bucs fan.
July 29th, 2025 at 4:31 pm
He won’t play until after the bye week and even then he won’t be himself until 2026. The more he can do for Egbuka the better for the team.
July 29th, 2025 at 5:27 pm
Amen!
July 29th, 2025 at 5:29 pm
Godwin is a class act. We are blessed to have him.
July 29th, 2025 at 8:02 pm
God Bless Chris Godwin! Class all the way and the only Bucs player I have two of his jerseys!
July 29th, 2025 at 9:11 pm
Love the character of our players and that’s kudos to Jason and even Todd.

JTHV remembers when he jumped off the couch when the Bucs drafted Godwin knowing he was an absolute steal in the 3rd.
His tenured Bucs career and seeing this continues to solidify this stamp of approval.
He’s already a Bucs legend amongst those already in the RoH.
Great job CG
