Benjamin Morrison Embraces The “Roller Coaster”
July 30th, 2025
Growth.
Joe may have started to see the flower begin to bloom Tuesday night.
In the stuffy Glazer Shed for the Bucs’ lone night practice of training camp (Ira Kaufman reports lightning struck the Glazer Shed during a nasty storm late Tuesday afternoon, affecting the AC capability, which is why the Glazer Shed felt so moist), Benjamin Morrison, the Bucs’ second-round pick at cornerback, twice in the first two plays got played by Mike Evans.
This isn’t really anything to be ashamed of. Joe’s seen Evans take Richard Sherman to school in his prime, and also Joe witnessed Evans charbroil mouthy Jalen Ramsey in a playoff game. Evans is going to get his.
On Day 1 of training camp, Evans made Morrison look silly. Then, last night, the first two plays Evans dominated him. Again.
But then came the third play. While a lot of guys would have been vulnerable because they were so peeved about the previous two plays, Morrison was not.
He got a pick (covering Jalen McMillan). That’s how you have a short memory!
Morrison told Jenna Laine of ESPN he’s beginning to embrace risk so long as he gets his reward.
“I was reading something today that was just like, ‘You can’t win and be scared to take the risk,” Morrison told ESPN. “So at the end of the day, you’ve gotta get out there — half the time, it’s never as bad as your mind makes it to be. Just out there — I think I’m getting the groove of things.
“I mean you see: One play I get done up, next play make a play. It’s just a sequence of events. I’m for the rollercoaster right now. I’m ready for it.”
That’s exactly what Morrison did. Got put in his place by Evans but made sure just seconds later, he got his.
Joe still thinks fellow rookie corner Jacob Parrish is making more plays in camp. That makes sense. Unlike Morrison, Parrish was not coming back from medical issues. So Parrish hit the ground running when he came to Tampa.
Just in the past couple of practices, Joe has seen growth from Morrison. That’s a very good sign.
And remember, folks, it’s still July.

GO BUCS

It looks like the secondary won’t be an issue this season. Between getting some players healthy again and the additions in the draft, the Buc’s should be vastly improved with solid depth.

Parrish is also playing closer to the box as opposed to being on the boundary, so more opportunity for him to make his presence felt on more plays.
Good hearing about Morrison having a short memory and not allowing plays past take him out of playing the next rep better. THAT, is what practice is for. Now I’m waiting on the “things are starting to really slow down for me” stage, that’s when the confidence sets in.

If both the guys pan out, which I think they will, we could have something special. I think our secondary will be much improved this year!

That photo jars me a bit. Notice how the sunlight plays across his left arm. Looks like two GSW’s and a knife gash to me. Hmm…
Go SB Bucs!

Sounds like Morrison’s injury concerns (hips) are in the past. So the Bucs got a first round talent at CB in the second round? Starting to look like that’s the case. Take a bow JL!

I guess Tyrell Funderburk and Josh Hayes
Can wave goodbye to the fans

Don’t forget we have Bryce Hall added to Morrison & Parish……lots of quality depth with our secondary this year.

Jim you sound like an idiot lol. Those are veins. Stop inventing things to judge this young man on. You’re not a doctor clearly.

Ben looks fabulous in that picture.

I like these two rooks more than I liked Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean, and SMB as rooks. Hopefully, they get it going in real game situations.

Just keep Bowles away like his silly soft cover 99 yards defensive setup

This is another reason AW Jr’s health is so important. So that talented CB’s are able to take that risk.
AW plays somewhat like Polamalu all over the field and Todd seems to feel comfortable letting his playmaking skills and football smarts to erase mistakes or GAMBLES that didnt pay off.

I hate that picture so much. I’m sure Morrison wouldn’t care for it

Both these DBs show a ton of promise. Hopefully it is pushing Zion and Dean. Zion has pro bowl potential and Dean, when fully healthy, is so much better than people think.
I am really curious to see how Winfield and Smith look at safety. If Winfield returns to form, this could be a very good secondary, especially if Reddick does what we think he can and elevate the entire line play.

@Stpete
Exactly… Crappy, inconsistent play @ Safety makes for overly cautious CBs.
Weak safety play is probably why we played so much cover 3 last year – where corners are required to cover a full 3rd of the field vertically.

The idea that Mike would NOT make any rookie CB in the NFL look silly in the first couple of training camp practices is ludicrous, lol.
More important is Benjamin sounding like he puts those things behind him and presses on.
Good for him.
Based on Joe’s practice notes, it appears Benjamin, Jacob and Bryce are all having good training camps so far, or at least showing flashes and promise.
Good for the. And for us.

If we can stay healthier, the secondary is going to go from a weakness to a strength. Winfield being healthy, alone might have taken the secondary from weak to middling but add the rookies and Bryce Hall… now we got something.

Coaching matters.
