And The Surprise Bucs Player In Underwear Football Was…

July 2nd, 2025

Surprise?

Joe tries not to be surprised by underwear football. There are a couple of reasons why.

First, it’s underwear football. It’s not real football. Looks can be, and often are, deceiving.

For example, once upon a time, Joe thought Tommy Streeter was lighting things up in underwear football. He didn’t make the team.

Couple of years later, Kenny Bell was tearing up in underwear football. Then the pads came on and he fully disappeared.

Now Jenna Laine of ESPN came away surprised by inside linebacker SirVocea Dennis.

The Bucs only caught a glimpse of Dennis due to a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 4, and the middle of the field was quite vulnerable last season as a result. But he had one of the most impressive offseasons of any Bucs defender.

“First day of OTAs, made one of the best plays I’ve ever seen a linebacker make,” linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. said. Dennis moved across the field to jump a route on a Baker Mayfield pass for an interception. “He’s special, man. Very cerebral and knows the game very well. Can really do everything on the field as a pass dropper, a blitzer and a run defender,” Walker said.

Joe wasn’t surprised seeing Dennis have a good spring. Why? Because Dennis has shown he’s a solid if not good player — when he’s on the field. What Dennis has not shown is an ability to stay on the field.

And that is a major issue for the Bucs defense because the Bucs, hoping to improve their woeful pass defense of the past two seasons, need Dennis to make plays.

He can’t make one damn play whatsoever if he’s in the tub or standing on the sidelines in street clothes.

Joe is very uncomfortable with the Bucs banking so heavily on a guy who has missed 17 games in his first two NFL seasons.

I hope there’s a strong competition between Walker and Voss to bring out the best in these guys. Don’t count out Walker.

Bake needs to look off the defenders more to reduce his picks. I’ve been re-watching last years games and it looks like he had about six picks where the defender was reading Bake’s eyes.

  2. BucU Says:

For his sake and the teams I hope Sir can put these injuries behind him.

Best ability is availability. Stay healthy and ball.

Hoping for the best too and that he stays healthy. Rooting for him.

  5. Lt. Dan Says:

Didn’t Voss basically have elective surgery for a preexisting shoulder problem? If that’s the case, I wouldn’t expect him to be at any higher risk of injury that any other player. Now about those hamstring injuries that surface at a high rate every year. That’s what keeps Lt Dan up at night.

  6. Dewey Selmon Says:

Mcoy, Vea and Kancey all had injuries their first 2 years and we all had this conversation. I think he ends up having a decent career. He could be our #1 ILB next year once David retires.

Nailed it Joe. As a Long time Bucs fan I sure hope it was jsut an unfortunate series of events, but that rarely is the case here in Bucland.

    Go Bucs!

For some reason it took me awhile to figure out why his name sounded so familiar. It’s courvoisier. When pronounced correctly of course. Sounds exactly like his first name except with a hard C at the beginning.

SVD is the ultimate Mr. August.

Until he can prove he can last more than 2-3 weeks when it actually matters, he’s the equivalent of a handful of magic beans.

    Not buying the hype here.

    @Steven007

Elite observation for an elite cognac

    “Courvoisier, yeah”…… Lady’s Man…LOL

  12. Aqualung Says:

    Hell yes, Steven007!

  13. larrd Says:

It seems like he gets more practice INTs than any linebacker I’ve ever followed, plus he’s a good pass rusher. A playmaker. Can’t wait to see him and his Pitt buddy Kancey have healthy years.

  14. Stpetematt Says:

Hamstring issues are probably caused by heat/dehydration. That’s why the Bucs get hit with them so often. Need Evans to drink a 40 of Gatorade before every game.

  15. ballwasher61 Says:

Agree with the hamstring and all soft tissue injuries. Hydration and stretching are key but so is rest. Practice indoors will help a bit but it’s a fine line between practicing to be ready and practicing too much, it’s just an unknown factor unfortunately. They have to practice outdoors.

  16. Buc15 Says:

Kenny Bell also looked amazing in underwear football.

Coconut water fountain at the practice facility, lol

    Clearly Voss’s Dad was a “Lady’s Man”. 😃

  19. Babygrace Says:

Why do so many people keep talking about his injuries? He hasn’t had injuries, he has had one injury, his shoulder. If his shoulder has been fixed he will be a beast.
It’s not fair to say he has the injury bug. In hind sight the Bucs should have had the shoulder repaired the day he signed his contract, but no one knows the future.

  20. SenileSenior Says:

Sirvocea came into the league with the problem. For whatever reason the surgery on his shoulder was postponed. I believe the Bucs knew what they were getting when they drafted Dennis. I expect to see him on the field for the whole season this year. His potential is no mystery to the staff.
