Where Is Chris Godwin In His Rehab?
June 10th, 2025So in a couple of hours, Joe will be out at minicamp at One Buc Palace. Everyone on the Bucs roster is supposed to show up.
The biggest question mark in Joe’s mind has already been answered. Free agent edge rusher Haason Reddick showed up yesterday at One Buc Palace. So he will be on the field today.
Jenna Laine of ESPN has a bigger question. Where will Chris Godwin be? Laine is curious how far along Godwin’s rehab is after surgery for a dislocated ankle.
… So, what will his participation look like? (Will he be on the sideline the whole time? Will he work off to the side with a member of the training staff? Will he do positional drills?)
General manager Jason Licht has said he expects Godwin to be ready for Week 1 but hasn’t gone into detail beyond that. This could be the first time this offseason that we see how he’s recovering.
Actually, Licht has expressed hope for Godwin to play Week 1, his recent comments to not reflect an expectation. Laine’s colleague, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, said recently the Bucs are taking it slow with Godwin.
As noted by Dan Pompei of The Athletic in his tremendous feature on Godwin yesterday, Godwin’s ankle wasn’t just dislocated, it was a complete wreck. So the smart move here is to not push Godwin.
While Joe didn’t notice much of or any sort of limp when Godwin signed his new contract and had a subsequent press conference, and Godwin wasn’t using the aid of a walker or a mobility three-wheeler made specifically for folks with foot injuries, who knows if he can get on the field?
So it wouldn’t shock Joe if Godwin is on floppy hat patrol all week — standing on the sidelines watching practice.
With Emeka Egbuka looking every bit a professional receiver, there is zero reason to rush Godwin back on the field.

Let him come back when 100% healthy. More Reps for the others until then. This Team is loaded! Now about that Putrid Pass Defense…. Go BUCS!!

Can’t wait to hear more about Chris. It’s okay if he isn’t ready yet. Let him rest it out.

absolute must-read story about Godwin on TheAthletic.com this morning! nice timing!

WR in the first round looks like a genius move afterall.

I have a photo saved somewhere of him laying on the ground with the nasty break , bless his heart but he will never be the same.

Godwin’s new deal has him guaranteed 44 million. I highly doubt he will see any action until things are checked, double checked, and checked again.
No way the Bucs can afford to pay a guy 22 million to spend 2/3 the season on IR.
Would not surprise me if he shows up on the PUP list soon. Doesn’t do much good for the Bucs to go 4-0 out of the gate and have him out when it matters the most.
Bucs need to bubble wrap that man and fit him for a Guardian.

Will Joe be able to note if he witnesses Chris Godwin at camp?
June 10th, 2025 at 8:27 am
The article by Dan Pompei fills in the blanks on why we drafted Emeka in the first round.
It makes perfect sense now.
No need to rush Chris. Let everything fully heal and let him get back into football shape before sending him onto the field.

No need to rush Chris. He’s got to be cleared by the docs, but most importantly will be him trusting the new ankle. Chris’s biggest impact, from now to his first start, will be his mentoring EE. I’d much rather have Chris mentor EE than Shepard.

Yes, camp is open. At One Buc Palace as Joe is typing this here comment.
Might even get lucky and have the practice moved inside the Glazer Shed if the storm front currently pounding Pinellas County makes it across the Bay.

He’ll be ready by week 10. Just need a couple of extra months to heal. Never should have signed him. Huge mistake

My guess is Godwin starts the season on the PUP list.
I just hope he doesn’t come back too soon

Any thought that we’ll see him on the field in anything other than floppy hat patrol before training camp (at least) is a bit delusional.

Really more concerned about what we are gonna get with Reddick. Godwin is important but we prved last year we can win without him. Playoffs wih him my abe a whole lot different than last year howver,
Reddick has a whole lot to prove to this fan. If not we do have some new alternatives who may help the pass rush. But I truly don’t know about this guy Reddick. Last year tells me I need to see him do some impressive stuff in camp and preseason games before I jump on that bandwagon. So far I am not impressed. Working out on his own does not impress me either BTW. I did some of that when I played and that can be a very unmotivated waster of time. If he is as good as he seems to think he is? Our Super Bowl chances skyrocket
Go Bucs!

Sorry to repeat, but wnted to be sure we are patient with Chris.
I had the same injury as Godwin when I was 26. I didn’t rehab it properly and ended up back in surgery to clean out all the scar tissue that resulted. There are three things to heal; the bone, which is actually the easiest; the surgical intrusion which causes so much pain in early recovery; and the soft tissue which has to sit as it reattaches, then very carefully be stretched back into functional shape, which for a WR is huge. This is a minimum year-long recovery. Even if he gets back sooner, his reflex and extension will limit him. So we need to be patient and hope for a good second half to the season.
