Todd Bowles Can’t Win (In Practice)

June 12th, 2025

Practices make Todd Bowles frown.

One way or the other, when Bucs practice ends, Todd Bowles is going to be in a foul mood when he starts thinking of how his team performed.

We all know how much Bowles stresses takeaways, specifically picks. He’s not as obsessive as lousy Lovie Smith, but sometimes Joe wonders if Bowles is happy after a win with no picks as opposed to maybe being content after a loss with three picks.

Yesterday, the Bucs had three picks of  quarterbacks. Initially, Bowles was happy. Then, he quickly became grumpy.

A pick is great, right Todd? Well, it’s a flip of the coin if you think about it. In practice, every Bucs pick means a quarterback threw a pick.

No matter how you slice it, Bowles is as annoyed as a hen who just had her eggs plucked from under her. (That’s a joke, son. Think Foghorn Leghorn.)

“I see both,” Bowles confessed yesterday. “I have mixed emotions.

“I’m happy we’re getting our hands on balls, I’m disappointed that we’re turning the ball over.

“I’ll never be happy.”

Joe is happy with wins — picks or no picks. Fumble recoveries or no fumbles. Whatever gets the Bucs a “W” makes Joe happy.

Let’s hope the Bucs eat double-digit W’s this year.

A nod to Famous – “America’s Quarterback – Pro Bowler Jameis Winston” – LOL

10 wins would be underachieving for this 2025 Bucs roster.

I see this team winning 11 or maybe 12 regular season games this year.

All that really matters though if you come into the season as a legit contender is being healthy at the end of the season – making the playoffs – and then peaking as a team and playing your best football in January.

    Foghorn Leghorn!!!

I read that Mayfield threw 3 picks by himself including a couple of pick sixes. Did any other QB throw a pick?

  4. Fred McNeil Says:

You can’t have it both ways, Todd. I am just happy to see the defense actually catch some balls.

    Rough day for Bake.

Again this has been his philosophy since day one. Force turnovers on D and eliminate turning the ball over on offense. This requires taking risks on the defensive side of the ball and being somewhat conservative on the offensive side. Part of the reason we don’t throw the long ball very often according to some. Also the reason the Bucs stress running the ball with success.

    Agreed Pickgrin.

    Is Todd expecting?

    Classic Bowles dry sarcasm.

Okay, Todd is definitely an overthinker. Nothing wrong with it, and to our advantage.

  12. Funderstruck Says:

QBs SHOULD be testing the limits at this stage—to see what they have in the tank, what their targets can do, etc. We also have reports of veteran…business decisions…on throws. Both of these things will put the defense in a spot to succeed.

The only reason to be upset would be if possible INTs are only showing up as PBUs.

sounds like baker is in mid season form lol…..unfortunately, baker lead the league in INTs last year so one would think he would want to avoid repeating that trend…

and before folks say,”its only OTAs”, i remember last year baker having 2 and 3int practices which showed up during the season….this team cant afford for baker to lead the league in INTs again…

    GO BUCS!!!!

    i’ll wait!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  18. ballwasher61 Says:

    Cousins threw 16 int’s in 14 games
Baker was tied w/16 in 17 games
    Geno smith had 15 w/ 21 td’s

  19. 813bucboi Says:

and the winner is BAKER LOL

if baker leads the league in INTs again, we’re one and done….again…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. SlyPirate Says:

Improving pass defense is critical. Better to see more INTs at this point. The offense will be fine.

  21. Obvious One Says:

Yeah Auqa did you see him get up from the table on draft night?

He was “waddling” back and forth as he started to walk around. I don’t know if it’s an on going thing or not but it got my attention. It didn’t look like he was in the shape they were describing. You know, up and at em in the gym at 4 and working out for a couple of hours….. But who knows? I just know what I saw. I don’t know the why’s…

But the man WAS waddling from side to side when he started walking and then the camera pointed somewhere else. It makes me feel bad for him rather than anything else because it probably also Includes Pain….

Td to int ratio gotta take the good with the bad if bucs was healthy and didn’t lose Godwin for yr and defense was half as good as should of been they definitely have 2 or more wins and who knows what happens in playoffs couldn’t get off field on defense on any down against Washington
