Report: Todd Bowles Signed Through 2028; Ex-Colleague Weighs In

June 26th, 2025

Former Todd Bowles colleague praises Bucs and him for treading water atop the NFC South.

Four more years! Four more years!

Joe has heard a few of those chants today, as well as some collective groans.

Regardless, the Bill Parcells coaching tree is having a happy day.

Yes, Todd Bowles got a multiyear contract extension along with Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht, the Bucs announced today. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says Bowles is signed through 2028.  His pay grade has not been reported.

Bowles has a lot of fan support, rightfully so, but there remains a large faction skeptical of his ability to take the Bucs to a higher level.

Former Bowles colleague Todd Haley applauded his “good friend” today on SiriusXM NFL Radio. They coached together under Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells with the Cowboys and Jets.

Haley said the Bucs are very smart to appreciate how Bowles has done a very good job and recognize how difficult it was to transition from the Tom Brady era. Haley emphasized Bowles has been “very good” but “not great” and a thriving tandem of a GM and head coach is always something that should be supported.

“I’m impressed with what’s gone on,” Haley said, adding he doesn’t think the Bucs are “a true contender” in 2025. He added that he thinks the Bucs have “tread water” atop the NFC South but seem primed to improve.

“That’s not a bad situation to be in,” Haley continued. “Especially understanding that you went from having Tom Brady and winning a Super Bowl to transitioning into Baker Mayfield. You know, that’s not a bad thing. They’re doing what they have to — to be competitive. And it’s very hard.”

For those wondering, Haley said he suspects Bowles is somewhat underrated because he coaches in Tampa. Joe’s not sure what that means, but Joe knows Haley has lived in the Bay area recently and still may. He also keeps close tabs on the Bucs and was Mayfield’s rookie offensive coordinator in Cleveland.

Greater success of winning a SB will shut up skeptics. Bucs need to show improvement in wins and improve in the playoffs to more than just get there and lose or a single playoff win.

  2. WinningMatters Says:

Thank you Glazers for a commitment to WINNING and Excellence! You are showing us the ability to focus on what REALLY matters while blocking out the noise. Malcom would be so proud of the job you have done and are doing we will be raising the 3rd Lombardi very soon! GO BUCS!!!

  3. GoneGator Says:

    Congratulations to Mr Bowles 👏🏼

  4. Truth be Told Says:

There is nothing wrong with stability when you have a current proven Winning organization. The Bucs are going to surge to great heights this year-only if that Putrid Pass Defense can get off the field on 3rd downs. And we all know the Defense is on Bowles. Go BUCS!!

  5. heyjude Says:

    “Impressive and thriving” perfect!

Cannot wait to hear the pay grade bump! Well deserved for both.

  6. BucsFan81 Says:

The bar needs to be set high. If this team does not make it to the NFC Championship game then it’s a failure in my opinion. The last several years it’s been making It to the playoffs and lose first round or win one playoff game and lose the next round. It is time to step up the Brady years are long and gone behind us.

  7. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Even if Bowles does lead this team to an SB, people will complain because people are people

  8. Pmike Says:

    Go Bowles!

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen so much long term stability with this team. Even during the Brady/Ariens years, I was afraid we were going to dip back into another lost decade once the smoke settled .

Glazers know that 2019-2029 will be a decade of competing!!

  9. Tbbucs3 Says:

Well deserved for Bowles, the Bucs are no longer a laughingstock MRSA ridden organization…..

Its pretty pathetic that a large chunk of the fan base still cant support their coach….guess they still havent gotten over losing their man crush Liam Coen.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT TODD …
He is acknowledges his faults and improves.
    1. OFFENSE. He started with an ultra-conservative offensive mindset. Run the A Gap on every 1st down didnt’ work. He allowed the offense to open up and now we have a solid attacking offense.
    2. PASS DEFENSE. He openly acknowledged his pass defense sucked. He and his coaches worked tirelessly to analyze the scheme’s short comings and are implementing a new scheme.
    3. END OF GAME MGMT. Todd has lost multiple games with late game coaching decisions. They hired a coach specifically to assist with end of game coaching decisions.

Nobody is perfect but most NFL HC think they are (ie Chucky). Todd is willing to grow and improve so that should give us hope for the future.

  11. PSL Bob Says:

How quickly the Bowles haters forget the organizations 50-year history. Clearly there were some good years, but the bad far outweighed the good. Since Arians arrived the team has been consistently good. There isn’t a week that goes by now that I don’t think we can beat whatever team we’re playing. Optimism has buried pessimism. If the Licht-Bowles combo maintains this stability and maintains a good, competitive team, I’m all for it. Yeah, I’d like to win another SB, but I’m not going to trash the team, coaches, GM, or owners if we don’t. Just make Sunday’s games worth watching. GO BUCS!

    BEAT ATLANTA!!!

  12. Smarter than Joe Says:

Glazers funding Bowles Retirment account is what this extension is

    It’s not about winning

It’s not about having the best candidate in charge, as Todd was gifted the job, the best option was not hired when Arians was told to go away by Brady

I hope Bowles learns from his many mistakes over his first 3 years here but he’s gotta show me for me to believe it

  13. Boomer Says:

Not good news. No sugar coating…..

Bowles might be a great guy, but if Haason Reddick is teaching 3rd and 4th year Bucs pass rushers new moves – we got coaching issues.

Bowles recently said that reviewing game film after the season he noticed that the corners were playing too far off the ball (or words to that effect). Hello? If he didn’t notice that during the season- we got coaching issues.

Bowles also said “team needs to develop a killer instinct- well damn, that comes from leadership and playing not to lose doesn’t inspire greatness.

Game and clock management – UGG.

For those (Ira) happy with 1 more win each year, means that by 2027 we may match our 2021 win total – the year we lost to the Rams in the playoffs because of the soft defense- we lost that game because Bowles played not to lose. The defense blew it.

Look at Pittsburg Steelers HC Mike Tomlin (team made the playoffs 5 out of the last 8 years and were 1 and done in the playoffs). Woopee.

We’re about to enter the land of mediocrity and that my Joes ain’t gonna sell tickets.

  14. Bucsarg Says:

Todd haters need to stop their noise. Go Todd

  15. 76doug Says:

First time Reddick or Vea drop into pass coverage to “confuse” a offense, half these Bowles lovers will be screaming for his a##. If he can’t fix the pass defense his extension will be mute.

  16. Saskbucs Says:

    Boomer… I agree with this…
Bowles also said “team needs to develop a killer instinct- well damn, that comes from leadership and playing not to lose doesn’t inspire greatness.

Bucsfan81, I also agree with you. Barring devastating injuries again, Bucs should win at least 1 playoff game this year and likely 2, otherwise it’s a failed season and a poor reflection on the coaching. This is a great roster!

  17. Pewter Power Says:

No hating on Bowles yet it’s too soon, there’s a new OLB’s coach this year. I have killed him since he became head coach mainly because he’s not the one coaching the players up anymore. The new contract doesn’t mean anything.

Chucky fired after receiving a new contract? They aren’t expecting bucs to fail and the team does love the guy.

  18. unbelievable Says:

For those (Ira) happy with 1 more win each year, means that by 2027 we may match our 2021 win total – the year we lost to the Rams in the playoffs because of the soft defense- we lost that game because Bowles played not to lose. The defense blew it.

No, we lost that game because the defense wasn’t set. Half of them thought a timeout was called and were just standing around. No one was in position when LA snapped the ball, leaving Winfield scrambling to single cover Kupp down the field. This was a failure of coaching and players IMO.

Does Bowles get some of the blame? Absolutely, but not all.

Let’s not forget the game started with absolutely absurd personal foul calls against the Bucs, 1 on Brady and 1 on Suh, both of which led to LA taking a big league very early on and put us in a huge hole to dig out of. Those 2 plays shouldn’t dictate an entire game, but it took all the momentum out of the Bucs. That’s a TEAM failure.

  19. JTHV Says:

The “Fire Dungy” crowd has been atoned a 2nd time with Gruden winning the Super Bowl and now the Bucs keeping a great football man on deck.

  20. HC Grover Says:

    Oh Good…9-8, 8-9, 10,7, 8-9, 7-10

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

You have stated this opinion multiple times. And you are wrong every time.

Tell me…what placed the burden on the defense? Offensive mistakes.

  22. LakelandBuc Says:

I’m super happy that the Bucs has owners who actually know football. And they don’t listen to these hating fans.

    A monumental day in Tampa

I’m proud to be a Buc fan

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    2022: 8-9
    2023: 9-8
    2024: 10-7

    27-24 Total

Boomer used to complain that Bowles was a .500 coach. Now that he isn’t and he improves each year, he complains about that.

    Just the facts.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Extending Jason Licht is a fantastic move.
Extending Todd Bowles is a SMART move.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Here’s what I know: It takes time to build a quality team, especially when the culture was bad for decades.

For a long time, the focus was on trying to improve things in a balanced manner between Defense and Offense. But it doesn’t work that way. That leads to a decade of losing.

You have to mostly complete one side of the ball, then complete the other. That way the first side can accomplish things while working on the second.

Once you complete a side, it’s patchwork from there…BPA.

So what SOME fans fail to grasp is that the defense was not great because the focus was on building the offense around Brady and Mayfield.

That was completed last year, and this year they addressed the defense and got a patchwork WR because of Godwin.

    It makes complete sense.

  26. captivajim Says:

Unless there are incentives in that deal to get him to raise his own bar–we will never even get to a SB. we’re just lucky to be in NFC south…
