No, The Bucs Won’t Trade For Will Levis To Back Up Baker Mayfield

June 2nd, 2025

“Baker, this is idiotic!”

Joe is in disbelief after being triggered by something so stupid, but here we are.

This Cody Benjamin of CBS is a dullard. Not only does it appear he sits in his home office located somewhere where frost is a real thing in October, but if he has a brain, he sure as hell doesn’t use it.

Benjamin, who specializes in throwing feces against the wall, always gives the Bucs kudos only if he has to, and half-heartedly. His latest attempt to offer intelligent analysis of the Bucs is just downright dumb.

Benjamin, with the June 1 cut/trade window now open, thinks the Titans can save cap space by trading now backup quarterback Will Levis. You know Levis, the same clown who eats banana peels and puts mayo in his coffee.

If that isn’t gross enough, you should see his play at quarterback. He has been so miserable of a quarterback, the Titans spent a No. 1 overall pick to replace him.

Now, Benjamin is connecting dots to try to get Levis to the Bucs.

The Tennessee Titans aren’t rushing to move on from the former second-round pick, at least publicly, but ever since the club’s new regime spent this year’s No. 1 overall pick on Cam Ward, the writing has been on the wall. Could coach Brian Callahan retain the big-armed youngster as Ward’s backup? Perhaps. But the Titans could save $1.6 million by trading Levis after June 1, whereas a trade or release prior to June 1 would’ve only saved the franchise about $600,000.

Potential landing spots: Buccaneers, Lions, Rams
Prediction: Traded to Buccaneers

So, the Titans could save cap space by unloading Levis, but the Bucs would want to take on his salary… why exactly?

If Benjamin had taken three minutes to think this through (if he is capable), he’d know Bucs are going to have a bunch of starters looking for new contracts in the next two years. A bunch! This is what happens when you draft well.

And, oh yeah, if Baker Mayfield and the Bucs do anything this year, Mayfield will likely and rightfully want a new deal.

So the Bucs want to make it harder on themselves financially by taking on Levis’ contract. Smart!

Joe told a Bucs employee recently about the pet peeve of JoeBucsFan.com columnist and the Sage of Tampa Bay sports — that the Bucs need a better backup than Kyle Trask. This person countered, “So we go out and get some loser of a quarterback just because he wasn’t good enough to keep his starting job and then pay him $10 million?”

Joe cannot argue with that at all.

Will Levis? Let’s keep our eye on the ball…

  2. Captahab Says:

I’m thinking the Bucs have a great back-up QB with Kyle Trask. If Mayfield goes down to injury, I feel good with Trask. I think he will surprise the fan faithful.

  3. MadMax Says:

    haha

i need to get caught up, wtf is going on….

wooo buddy, ok. I get it. we need a bu QB if Baker goes down and not everyone including me is ok with Trask. But if it comes to that point then give him a chance. We’re not there yet so, a bunch of nothingness.

  4. PSL Bob Says:

Forget the cost. There were several qualified backup QBs that were available in free agency. Jason and Todd thought that Kyle Trask would work out better for the Bucs than any of them. So why would we pay for some wacko QB that someone else doesn’t want? Just plain stupid!

  5. Obvious One Says:

Yeah that would not be a bright idea. Trask is completely unproven yet trained well in the Buccaneers way. He’s a far better bet than a guy whom has proven he’s “likely” to blow it and costs twice as much…

Besides, if we lose Baker, I’m not so sure that any current backup can come close filling his shoes. Trask Is actually our Best Bet. Plus we’ve got to get at least some mileage out of a second round pick..

Web have a Strong Roster this year and I have a good feeling about us having Far Better luck in the injury department. Last year it felt like we were cursed by a Hard Luck Voodoo witch or something. In some games we were losing one, two main weapons per clip. I’m not going to bother speaking of why the 3rd stringers and more just played like they were absolutely Lost. Or scared. It seemed likethey weren’t trained in what to do Or even what to say to each other. Cherry on top? They never seemed to have improved either. WAY too many “if only’s”.. Hard to watch.

With the additions Jason put on the field in this draft…. It “feels like” we can’t miss. I “hope” my gut is right about the great feeling I’m having for us about our new Warriors and how soon they’ll be able to contribute. Crossing fingers

2026 looks like the crunch year for Bucs’ free agents (we have a LOT more next year than we’ll have in 2027). Might be a reason why JL has maneuvered us to the current state of having $30 mil in Top-51 CAP space (ie, in prep for 2026?). We’re still a young team that’s in the hunt for the Super Bowl; irony is that IF we win it this year, everyone’s value goes up and we MIGHT end up with several big holes since we couldn’t sign everyone. Still, that just means we’ll have to keep drafting well.

  7. Aqualung Says:

    Will Levis. LOL.

Had sucked, has sucked, sucks, will suck and will have sucked.

  8. garro Says:

    LOL Joe….Just LOL…

These dudes must have some dirty pics of someone. How do they get these jobs or keep them?

    Go Bucs!

Obvious One … ‘Trask is completely unproven yet trained well in the Buccaneers way.’

Good point. With most young QBs, you don’t know what you’ve really got until they get thrown into the fire. That was kinda the point with Brock Purdy. Came into the league in 2022 as a virtual unknown, but hung on as the 49ers 3rd QB. Got a couple of snaps early in the season (in a blow-out loss), but that was it until Week 13 when Jimmy Garrapolo got injured (season-starter Trey Lance had already fizzled by that time). Purdy won that game plus the next 4 games, and the rest is history. Never know, Kyle Trask may do something similar IF the need ever arises.

In looking at Purdy’s career in San Fran BTW, saw something interesting. In 2022 the 49ers had the #1 defense and went 13-4 with DeMeco Ryans as their DC. He moved on to become Houston’s HC and Steve Wilks took over as DC for 2023. The 49ers defense ranked #3 that year & they finished 12-5, losing the Super Bowl to the Chiefs 25-22. For whatever reason, Wilks was replaced by Nick Sorenson for 2024 and the defense imploded to a #29 ranking as the 49ers only managed a 6-11 record.

Looks to me like Purdy has only really excelled when he had a Top-5 defense; he didn’t do all that well when their defense was in the Bottom-5. And yet Brock, a Rnd 7 draft pick (#262), managed to get signed recently to a 5-year, $265 mil contract ($53 mil per year average). Purdy should be thanking DCs Ryans & Wilks for that one.

  10. Kenton Smith Says:

I like Trask. No matter what if the starter goes down it’ll be a crapshoot as to whether we could weather that kind of storm. But this team, more than most, would go about their business in a way that would give us the chance to keep the train on the rails. I think Trask has the confidence of Mayfield and the rest of the team. His teammates respect him and he respects them. I don’t see us rolling over for anyone no matter the circumstances. I think we’re gonna be good this year and Mayfield is more durable than most QBs. But if he gets knocked out for anytime Trask will be ready and the whole team will be right beside him.

  11. Scotty Mack Says:

Something’s seriously wrong when you think that saving $1.6 million is a big deal. That’s not too far from the bare minimum player’s salary. They save what … $600,000 and pay it to who? That savings won’t even pay for the rookie minimum salary and what veteran is holding out right now for an extra $600K?

  12. Irishmist Says:

Levis threw 12 interceptions in 12 games last year, with only 13 TDS. We would have kept Jameis Winston if we wanted a ratio like that.

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

This guy puts mayo in his coffee and eats banana peels??? What is he? A billygoat? He would be very popular in the Muslim football league. But the other players would want him to play center during underwear football. Baaaaa…

  14. Fred McNeil Says:

    Ziegenfickers!

  15. Fred McNeil Says:

Levis does make a little over half of Trask’s salary 1.6 mil to Trask’s 2.7 mil, but I’d still rather keep Trask. Maybe Trask would stink if he got a chance. Maybe he would shine. I don’t know. What I am sure of is Willis would stink for sure. Why don’t we sign Jaymiss?

  16. Bojim Says:

As Trask never plays we really don’t know that he’s a bad backup.

  17. Beeej Says:

We have the last two years of pre-season action, and Trask has looked very good in those, fwiw

  18. heyjude Says:

No way, sticking with Trask as Baker’s back-up.

  19. Jeffrey Becker Says:

wait, you’re not supposed to eat the peels?

  20. Jeffrey Becker Says:

wish we had like a Teddy Bridgewater type guy though

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Kenton and Jude

Agree wholeheartedly! Trask has paid his dues and deserves some respect.

There I go again why is it RESPECT comes into the equation. We’ve seen virtually nothing..good or bad. He’s held onto his spot for all these years and two talented QB’s with experience, one the GOAT, and he’s still standing. That alone should be worth something. Oh…and he’s affordable and that’s DEFINITELY worth something.

  22. Aqualung Says:

Fred McNeil, you made me insult my pants twice. ROTFLMAO

  23. Tony Says:

We’re gonna sign either Josh Freeman Jeff Garcia Brad Johnson or Vinny Testaverde.& bring one of them back.

  24. Joe Says:

This guy puts mayo in his coffee and eats banana peels??? What is he? A billygoat?

    Hahahahaha!

Why would anyone trust a quarterback who puts mayo in coffee (how bad must the coffee be to add mayo to make it drinkable?) and eats bananas whole?

  25. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I’m not an occult of Trask member but I’ll take little Kyle every day all day over Levis. Any GM that would waste assets on Will Levis will not be employed much longer.

  26. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Well, I’m one who does NOT believe that Trask is the solution for backup. They need to sign aging vet to sit beside Trask. If Trask implodes we still have a chance with an experienced guy.

  27. The Fighting Schianoes Says:

Ill take Trask over Levis all day.

  28. GoneGator Says:

I actually think we’re ok @ backup QB.
Trask should know how to operate the offense if he has to…. Hopefully he won’t have to.

  29. PresidentBowles Says:

I really would love to see Trask get the QB1 spot after a Baker injury.

Just to prove all the insane Trask lovers wrong.

    There’s nothing left after Mayfield.

    98.6 with a clip board.

  30. Oneilbuc Says:

PresidentBowls. Trask prove it in training camp in 2023 on the field. But Baker Mayfield won off the court with people like you that’s not a bucs fan. Now it’s time for Baker Mayfield to prove he can will us to a victory in the playoffs when needed. And he also needs to prove he can get us to the NFC Championship game then we can talk Superbowl. He’s 30 years old and next year he will be 31 . Don’t want to be in the cowboys situation with Romo or Dak

  31. Louis Friend Says:

To the idiot who wrote this article, Levis counts for a nearly flat $1M against the cap this season. I think any trade partner could live with that. Actually look something up before crying like an old woman about it.

  32. Fred McNeil Says:

Louis friend, you’re right. Wilis’ salary impact is negligible. I just have far more faith in Trask. I haven’t really seen Trask actually play in a real game situation. I have seen Wilis. Thanx, but no Thanx. Maybe if the Titans offer me a second round pick to carry him.

  33. ballwasher61 Says:

Trask was resigned this off season, lest we forget so if Licht had a better option he would have taken it.
