Contract Extensions For Jason Licht And Todd Bowles
June 26th, 2025Team Glazer loves its management team. A lot.
Ownership didn’t have to, but it just extended the contracts of head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Jason Licht for multiple years, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Bowles is in his fourth year as head coach and while not confirmed, there were reports over the years that he initially signed a four-year deal with a Glazer option for a fifth year. Joe’s never seen a credible report on Bowles’ salary.
Joe has no clue when it comes to Licht’s contract status, but Joe recently learned from a top agent that general managers with Licht’s resume earn in the neighborhood of $4 million.
“Jason and Todd’s leadership has been critical to our organization’s success,” Buccaneers co-owner Joel Glazer said, via a team news release. “The winning culture they have established has us well positioned for the future,” The continuity and stability they provide will play a large role in our ability to compete for additional championships.”
Congrats to these to Bucs leaders — two guys who know Team Glazer won’t hesitate to fire them if they don’t like the results on the field, no matter what the contract says.
Licht said via a release that he appreciates Team Glazer and working with Bowles.
The head coach is pumped.
“I am excited to continue working with Jason for years to come as we build on the success we’ve enjoyed and keep reaching for even bigger and better goals. My family loves Tampa and we’re looking forward to delivering more great moments for our fans in the coming seasons,” said Bowles. “I also appreciate the confidence that the Glazer Family has shown in my abilities to lead this football team. It is a responsibility I do not take lightly and am honored to have.”

Welp, safe to say that even if Bowles does go 5-12, he’s safe for a while.
June 26th, 2025 at 8:51 am
I love the Licht extension, I would’ve like to see Bowles play himself into a new contract this season like the players do in a contract year. Mind you my view of Bowles has changed in the offseason (maybe because there’s been no timeouts to waste or 4th quarter leads to blow) but I’ll trust the front office on this one.
I’m now a Bowles believer I guess. Super Bowl aspirations this year. For anyone saying that’s delusional or unrealistic, we should’ve beat the commandos, we have the Eagles’ number in the yoffs, and what happened last time we played the chiefs in the Super Bowl?
June 26th, 2025 at 8:53 am
Congratulations to both of them. If the Bucs win 11 games this year then Bowles will have the second best win percentage as a head coach in Bucs history, eclipsing both Dungy and Gruden.
They both deserve it.
June 26th, 2025 at 8:54 am
We’re stuck with Bowles and his poor clock management. Hate this move. Jason deserves his contract extension but not Bowles. If his defense sucks again this year we will be stuck with this mess..
June 26th, 2025 at 8:55 am
They have a good situation and I would guess they are being paid reasonably, but not extravagantly, like the free agents who re-sign. I have no doubt the team would cut Bowles loose if it does not make the playoffs this year. Licht seems safe for a while regardless.
June 26th, 2025 at 8:56 am
Big Congrats to Coach Bowles & the best GM in all of sports Jason Licht. Let’s get better and keep goin!
June 26th, 2025 at 9:02 am
Heck yeah!!! This is great. Best Bucs culture ever right now
June 26th, 2025 at 9:03 am
I hope Bowles wins a Super Bowl soon because I’m sick of all the Bowles hate here. Yes, he’s made mistakes but don’t all coaches? He’s shown steady improvement over the years and deserves the extension.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:04 am
Outstanding news! Congratulations to Todd and Jason. The Glazers made an excellent decision.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:04 am
This will give the trolls a reason to start drinking early today. And as usual hope Bowles fails in the first year and is fired.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:06 am
Jason is definitely deserving. I’m still 50/50 on Bowles. Will the Bucs keep losing talented OCs to other teams because the Bucs are sticking with a defensive HC? Likely. Is that a win in formula in today’s NFL? Unlikely.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:10 am
Jason Licht is now the best drafting GM in the entire league…. so extending his contract was a literal no-brainer.
Todd Bowles has won the South division and taken his team to the playoffs three years straight – improving the team’s record each year despite losing Tom Brady and the entire interior OLine, navigating salary cap hell and working with one of the youngest rosters in the league….. Todd has assembled an excellent coaching staff that does a great job of developing young talent – and the players LOVE playing for this man… Extending coach Bowles was likely also an easy decision for the owners considering all those facts…..
June 26th, 2025 at 9:10 am
No pressure, no worries
June 26th, 2025 at 9:13 am
“Jason and Todd’s leadership has been critical”, “The winning culture they have established”, “The continuity and stability they provide”. Best move we’ve made this offseason. “It is a responsibility I don’t take lightly and am honored to have”. Yep, I thought so. These guys are just getting started.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:18 am
Man, I need to get hired by this organization
They overpay for mediocre results
Licht, I am okay with this as a fan, while he’s not great he gives this team enough talent to be competitive.
Todd on the other hand is just not a good Head Coach/Coordinator, he’s a top 15 coordinator but a bottom tier Head Coach. I’d like to see what he does under the pressure of earning a new contract rather than extend him
Sad day for the fanbase
June 26th, 2025 at 9:22 am
Not the biggest Bowles guy, but continuity IS important. Teams and players across the league pay attention to what’s going on. Optics Al look good and it reaffirms that the. I’ve have become a top 5 ORGANIZATION. Chess, not checkers. Stable infrastructure, winning culture, we take care of our own. I disagree that if Bowles goes 5-12 that he’s safe. This team is loaded with high expectations, if we don’t build upon last yr then then he will have some problems. This doesn’t absolve him from scrutiny or getting shown the door. There’s no implication on salary keep anyway. We do not know the details of the extension, could be an extra year with an out. Thus, eating 10 million or whatever it is really isn’t a big deal. Not like we’re talking about a Deshaun Watson situation
June 26th, 2025 at 9:22 am
The Licht extension is a no brainer. I have mixed feelings on Bowles because sometimes it looks like he does a lot with very little but other times I see corners playing 10 yards off the line and it seems he makes it too easy. The reality is no team can rebuild perfectly and quickly but we’ve been spoiled to maintain our success despite essentially turning over the whole team.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:23 am
When will the first Bowles has to go Opines be voiced?
I believe we have a very solid culture here in Tampa, it has had some adjustments to it’s foundation, and is now building on top of that solid foundation, with quality, efforts, of Team Culture, from Ownership, their staffing, GM, his staff, Coaches and their staff and in house culture, to the players, and their own leadership from within culture.
All working together toward a common Goal. Another NFC Championship Baker/Brady Banner, and a ticket to the playoff competition toward the Super Bowl.
Congratulations to continuous Tampa Stability in the NFC South.
GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!
June 26th, 2025 at 9:29 am
Well deserved extensions earned by Jason and Todd. Maybe a Super Bowl win bonus is in those contracts as well, because they will ear that also this year.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:37 am
More evidence Glazers have no clue what they are doing. Congrats Licht.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:38 am
It is very important to have consistency in all phases of sports and business management. Probably would have liked to see how Bowles does this year with an improved defensive roster, but I understand the signing. Licht has proven his value beyond a doubt.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:39 am
This announcement just ruined my day….licht I am ok with but to extend Bowles is a major blunder in my opinion. Why are we settling for a mediocre (at best) HC? Licht has put together a strong staff, especially scouting wise, that has produced some excellent drafts recently and managed to keep our core players in this free agency era. Bowles is not a top tier coach…not even close!!! Why do they demand excellence in all other areas but still put up with a below average HC? VERY FRUSTRATING TO ME
June 26th, 2025 at 9:41 am
Well deserved for Todd Bowles kept the franchise afloat. Whenever everyone thought we would be irrelevant post Brady.
Easy decision. Unless you’re a fan, who thinks Bill Walsh is apparently available on the streets
June 26th, 2025 at 9:44 am
The Licht ext is a no brainer. Great move.
It depends on Todd’s. If his initial deal was 4 years, he was always going to get an extension this year. Most HCs don’t play out the last year as a lame duck. McCarthy last year was one of the exceptions. If that’s the case it’s BAU.
If his initial deal was 5 years, I would have preferred to see another year of improvement in situational in-game awareness.
Of course if it goes south the contracts won’t matter. They’ll get canned.

I’m no bowles fan but it’s hard to argue that he hasnt managed the coaching duties through the transition from the SB team and cap hell as well as a couple of OCs in decent fashion. If that and basically a .500 record is what is considered excellent and deserving an extension in the house of glazer then that is what it is.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:46 am
At least with this news we dont have to discuss defending zyons honor today. i hope.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:46 am
Bowles is by no means a bad coach, and he deserves a lot of credit for handling the Arians/Brady transitions and keeping the band together. I’m just not sure that we’ll be able to take that next step as a true contender with his in-game decision making shortcomings. Division titles are great and all but how will Bowles fair if the NFC South is able to produce another competent team??
June 26th, 2025 at 9:49 am
Licht deserves it – his management of the the franchise is one of the best in the NFL.
Bowles doesn’t deserve anything other than a prove-it deal. Its a triumph of mediocrity.
June 26th, 2025 at 9:58 am
ehh, squad plays hard for todd…
no money can buy that
June 26th, 2025 at 10:03 am
Congrats to both Licht & Bowles… Great team… Very happy with roster…
June 26th, 2025 at 10:12 am
Well I guess I won’t live to see another SB with Todd at the helm. The peter principle at work , problem is that the Glazers have bought into mediocrity. Sad really.
June 26th, 2025 at 10:14 am
“We love his 0.529 winning culture in the worst division in the NFL”.
June 26th, 2025 at 10:20 am
@Baker Bowl…100% agree.
I like Bowles, I think he’s been making a lot of lemonade the last 2 seasons from his defense, and I’m not as hard on him regarding his coaching and his style as much as his critics are, but why not let him play for that extension?
What was the rush on extending him? He’ll be cheaper now vs later? Better sign him before another team gets him? We’re not talking about a stud rookie in his 4th year. I just don’t understand the hurry. Tampa has all the damn leverage when it comes to his contract. The only play Bowles has to counter is retiring.
Perhaps I’ve been following too many of the Bucs boards and websites, but the fan love is 50/50 and you get NO IMPRESSION from the national media of Todd Bowles hype, and/or that any football team can’t wait to add Todd Bowles as their next HC.
An outstanding 2025 seasons for both Bowles and Baker and all this contract stuff would have taken care of itself and perhaps would have eased the fanbase noise. The only good thing worth noting is historically, the Glazers don’t let contracts distract them from coaching changes.
June 26th, 2025 at 10:22 am
Fantastic job by Licht! He deserves it! Less sure on Todd. I get that his defense hasn’t had all the horses lately but I hate the soft ass pass defense he’s been running recently and some of the game decisions. He can turn me around though.
June 26th, 2025 at 10:33 am
I love this. The lost decade is over, we continue to be one of the more consistent teams in the NFL. Playoff every year. Love it.
June 26th, 2025 at 10:34 am
This is bad news for Bill Belichick! 😉
I’m fine with the extensions. But for those who would prefer that Bowles walk the plank, who would you hire now to replace him?
What’s kept us from going deep into the playoffs while Bowles has been HC has IMO been less about his deficiencies, and more about personnel issues. Licht was limited in who he could acquire in free agency as he was digging out of salary cap hell, so he had to shop at the Dollar Store. We also experienced some unfortunate injuries in positions where we lacked sufficient depth. We can’t blame either of those two things on Bowles, but some commenters here on this site probably blame Bowles for climate change as well.
June 26th, 2025 at 10:37 am
You know the HC gets credit for the offense too. Lots of weeping, moaning, and gnashing of teeth over something that should be seen as positive. Especially considering this is a fan base that endure the Morris to Schiano to Smith to Koetter regime changes and saw ownership crap out with 4 different HCs.
I guess that’s perspective that doesn’t matter when you dislike a coach for what mostly seems like hyperbole fueled criticisms and reaches.
If not Bowles, than who? Bellichek? NO THANK YOU. Rex Ryan? What Re-tread or relatively unknown HC candidate would you all who are opposed to Bowles would definitively do a better job than Bowles? There’s never names named, just “not Bowles” which is half baked at best
June 26th, 2025 at 10:38 am
Good on the owners. Eliminate distractions from all levels of the team.
Happy to have stability on the coach and GM front!
June 26th, 2025 at 11:07 am
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
June 26th, 2025 at 11:19 am
Good move with Licht. Pretty much zero chance he won’t just keep on getting extensions.
I understand it for Bowles, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Every year that he’s been head coach here his defense is hanging on by a thread. At some point, considering the draft assets that have been thrown at it, it just needs to be an outright top unit at something other than stopping the run.
In my opinion, the team as a whole underperforms for a about half the season every season under him, but…..there are worse head coaches out there than him. So there is that. He’s just been lucky that those other worse head coaches are mostly in his division.
June 26th, 2025 at 11:20 am
The mistake I see made most frequently by Bowles haters here is that like Chucky Bowles was handed a SB winning team.
Factually he was just handed a team that had “won” SB despite losing what many posters wish to deride as the worst Division in the NFL to the Saints! He was saddled with an OC not of his choosing, a QB staying two years too long and an aging team strapped with salary cap issues.
THIS season should give a far better indication of Todd’s DC skills or lack thereof with the new talent infusion and an great offense that should also help the D in critical areas like TOP.
June 26th, 2025 at 11:28 am
To those who are unhappy, let me explain. I know the fact Bowels has won 4 division titles in a row is because its a crappy division. What you dont understand is the last 4 years have been rebuilding years for the Bucs. 2023 should have been a 5 win season, taking the whole cap hit on Brady, paying the price for the Super Bowl, Ali marpets retirement, losing Center to injury… the last 4 years have been a rebuilding era for the Bucs, and they’re winning division titles during that! All those years we had talent but kept losing, well now we have talent again and the defense is getting talent added too. Just relax, and be a fan, enjoy the winning. dont think you know better, because if the Bucs go 4-13 the next two years, the glazers will fire anyone who does that. contract or not.
June 26th, 2025 at 11:35 am
C’MONNNN MANNNNN………Do we not understand that without Baker Bowels would not have sustained close to enough wins to still be HC and without Bowels’ boneheaded mistakes and schemes Bake and the Bucs would have 2-3 more wins per season.
June 26th, 2025 at 11:48 am
I think the Glazers are fantastic owners. I bet Culverhouse would never have done what they did for players during that hurricane. That incredible spending of their own money was phenomenal to me.
Dungy took the Bucs to the playoffs 4 or 5 years in a row, but not to division titles, and they canned him. They must see a lot in Bowles that many “fans” don’t see. I think with all the adversity, we have a great team with Bowles and Licht together.
I do see another Super Bowl in our near future, and I never hear anyone working for the Bucs complain about Bowles’ coaching.
June 26th, 2025 at 11:55 am
Took this from another fan but he says everything I was thinking as a fan that’s been one before Gruden was our coach…
Todd helped select a great and undervalued OC (el serpiente), put together a great start with an aging defense, held the team together after massive injuries hit the defense, and kept the defense competitive with guys with names no one will ever remember… and he did it 2 seasons in a row, while winning yet another NFCS championship and another playoff appearance.
These new Buc fans are pretty spoiled. I like it, because it sets the expectation & pressure very high on the organization – but as a longtime Buc fan – it is wild to see.
June 26th, 2025 at 11:58 am
Not My NFL Says:

————————————————————————–
Yeah, Baker has been REALLY good while here but it’s because the team let him be himself, and hired OC’s that were a good fit. Without Bowles, Baker might be working as a back-up somewhere.
Baker had a very rocky start to his career until he arrived here in Tampa, playing under the two offensive coordinators that Bowles hired.
It was a win-win situation helping both Baker and Bowles, but to characterize it in the way you did is revisionist history.
June 26th, 2025 at 12:01 pm
Well deserved imo. Plus this is a smart move to help a conservative coach feel comfortable playing to win rather than playing not to lose to keep his job. Not saying Bowles would do that but one less thing on his mind in a playoff run on 4th and 2.
June 26th, 2025 at 12:55 pm
The fans here are nuts,,, this is good news , I’ll take the playoffs every year and 2 SuperBowl championships ,,,, Of the top of my head I can think of 18 teams that would KILL for this kind of success. Again we have TWO Super Bowls in 23 years ,,, there are teams that have been around a lot longer that have 1 or god forbid ZERO,,,,, go Todd and Jason ,, keep this up and SB #3 will be coming this way
June 26th, 2025 at 1:00 pm
Great news for JL and Coach and fans who understand football, team building, continuity, relativity, reality etc ie. “The big picture”.
Sad day for the turd hunters. 😔
Have a drink but be careful, and remember alcohol is a drug ✌🏼
June 26th, 2025 at 1:38 pm
Question for 1996. Did Bowles hire the OC’s? Or was it Licht?
June 26th, 2025 at 2:18 pm
I didn’t actually realize the GM had a contract. I thought they were just salaried. Why don’t teams just salary front office staff with performance bonuses?
June 26th, 2025 at 2:43 pm
Bosch Says:
Question for 1996. Did Bowles hire the OC’s? Or was it Licht?
————————————————————————
My understanding is that it was Bowles call to make on both of the OC’s but Licht was present during the interviews.
Maybe @Joe has some info on this.
June 26th, 2025 at 3:08 pm
Has Bowles improved each season or has the roster?
We like to tout our homegrown draft picks and having a young team now… we think they are good players that we have been stacking for a couple years now right?
We upgraded OCs for 3 straight years. Did that improve the team or did Bowles? Does Bowles get credit for the OCs?
Not easy questions to answer. Obviously I would have liked to see the results this season before extending Todd. Licht, no brainer.
June 26th, 2025 at 5:04 pm
If we don’t get to the NFC Championship game this year all of this will be a bad deal for the team. And I’m not talking about the Lich contract but the Bowles contract. At some point we’re going to have to improve in the playoffs wins winning a trash division ain’t that impressive to real bucs fans that wants Championships!!
