Calijah Kancey’s Missed Tackle

June 30th, 2025

Summer in Joe’s world means re-watching Bucs games — again.

Joe’s looking for plays to further explore on All-22, and for various nuggets and nuances.

So NextGen Stats, an official data analytics arm of the NFL using satellite tracking of player movement, says Bucs defensive tackle Calijah Kancey did not miss a tackle in the regular season last year.

Kancey told Joe he absolutely missed a tackle. Joe found it on film review (Raiders in December) and fans can watch an X video of the play below.

“I was lined up in the A-gap, I was the off-ball linebacker,” Kancey remembered. “I was going to drop into coverage. But it ended up being a draw.

“I took the easy way out going against the offensive lineman and I went under instead of over and then the guy ran by [Kancey] and I just dove for him. And he outran me. Missed tackle.”

Joe viewed it as a missed tackle, as well. As Kancey said, he leaned “under” and got burned. It’s more apparent on All-22, but it can be seen below, especially if you watch a few times.

It sure wasn’t pretty against Las Vegas and quarterback Aidan O’Connell. That’s also the game that saw Zyon McCollum miss while launching a shoulder at Brock Bowers. He ended up drilling Antoine Winfield in the knee.

Should probably cut him for that.

Thats just putting a guy at linebacker who is not a linebacker Joe. He did not spot the run quick enough. LVD would have nailed the guy.

    Why was LVD missing?

    Go Bucs!

Really we’re going to microscope down to find the one possible mistake that the guy made throughout the year he made a wrong decision on the block and was still almost there hard to call a missed tackle when he was still never in reach. But really what are we talking about here and why

Let’s forget Kancey n just watch JDean on this play. I don’t understand how folks rave about his playing style. This guy just stood as usual like deer in the headlight n flat out missed the guy. It’s time for him to be gone. He’s passive, slow to react to a play n has always dropped potential ints thrown either in his gut or in his line of catch. Why are we wasting so much money on Dean. He is pitiful. Please know, a zebra don’t change its stripes.

Ouch! Bad play for sure. Oh well, hopefully we won’t see that many mistakes one play this season.

Yep. Genius. Let’s have Kancey drop into coverage along with Vita and Yaya. They’ll never expect it.

    Todd.
