Calijah Kancey Brings Comfort To SirVocea Dennis

June 5th, 2025

Bucs ILB SirVocea Dennis.

SirVocea Dennis has a friend in Calijah Kancey.

Dennis very well could be Lavonte David’s heir as the next great Bucs linebacker. Problem for Dennis is staying on the field.

Folks hope at One Buc Palace that Dennis’ shoulder surgery to correct a nagging injury dating back to his Pitt years has resolved this issue. We shall see.

But Dennis can lean on another factor that also dates back to his Pitt days. That’s playing behind tackle Calijah Kancey. And that Pitt connection is a whole lot less painful than a bum shoulder.

Tuesday after underwear football practice, the man most outside of One Buc Palace would mistake for a grad assistant in the biology department at USF said that if anything, Kancey could help him stay on the field.

Dennis finds comfort playing behind Kancey, sort of like a safety net.

“Being with Calijah – I’ve been with him for obviously the four years at Pitt and this will be our third year here so seven years – it’s amazing,” Dennis said. “That guy is an animal, of course. You guys see it night in and night out on the field.

“Just to be playing five yards behind him – I’m just comfortable, you know what I mean? I don’t have to worry about him, I don’t have to worry about his assignment. That guy is a dawg and I’m just excited and lucky to play with that man.”

Equally important, until Dennis can demonstrate he’s not brittle, Kancey helps keep NFL bodies off him.

Joe doesn’t believe there are many, if any, Bucs fans who think Dennis can’t play at a high level in the NFL. But he could be the next Lawrence Taylor and it won’t matter a hill of black beans and yellow rice if he can’t stay on the field.

Joe doesn’t think it’s overstating to say Dennis finding a way to stay on the field could be one of the most crucial hurdles for the Bucs to overcome in their quest to be a Super Bowl contender.

A healthy Dennis is the difference of the middle of the field against the Lions versus the way they played against the Falcons.

  2. Tony Says:

I liked both of them coming out. Was a little more torn on Dennis than Kancey. Other than Clemson I think they seem to have more success with the ACC than the SEC so maybe they should stick with the ACC. Dean hasn’t done much Carlton & Devin didn’t do that much Clayton didn’t do much Beckwith didn’t do much (had the talent though) OJ didn’t do much the RB from Vanderbilt didn’t do much Trask is still sitting on the bench so that draft pick was kind of wasted Hargreaves didn’t do much, etc. Evans seemed to be the only one to come out of there that actually made it & I don’t think A & M was even in the SEC yet then.

  3. Tony Says:

They’ve had more luck with the ACC. Barber Sapp Brooks all came out of there & Kancey Dennis Barton & Yaya all just came out of there, too!

  4. ModHairKen Says:

I hope he is well. Shoulder injuries suck. If he comes back strong this year, that would be an unplanned welcome surprise.

Imagine a full healthy season for Kancey, Dennis and Winfield. And a healthy Godwin.

This team has great talent and they love Bowles.

It could be ugly. For 31 teams whose town does not rhyme with Ciampa. $100 for anyone who gets the reference.

  5. Usfbucs Says:

I hope he throws together a 17 game season where he shows that he can be a great ILB and future leader for our defense.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

It will be exciting to see Dennis paired with David. Fingers crossed, Dennis can stay healthy for the whole season, particularly during the SB run in January. If we can just get average play from the secondary this season, our high-powered offense can get us back to the mountaintop.

    BEAT ATLANTA!!!

  7. Fred McNeil Says:

I don’t get it modhair. Fill us in later.

  8. Baking with Grizz Says:

    ^^^^ SUPER BOWL BABY!!!!!

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Equally important, until Dennis can demonstrate he’s not brittle, Kancey helps keep NFL bodies off him.’

And equally important is that Vita Vea helps keep NFL bodies off BOTH of them. Vea’s the key to this defense. Without him, we’re in trouble.

  10. Fred McNeil Says:

    DR, ditto. Via is key

  11. Aqualung Says:

It would be great for SVD to stay healthy, but absolutely – Vita MUST stay healthy. Very unlikely The Big Gator is ready to fill in and we are full on toast if Vita gets tripped up by Logan Hall in mandatories and shreds a knee.

  12. Jeffrey Becker Says:

haha I was 99 pct sure this article was gonna be about how Kancey knows how to deal with injuries or something connecting him to Kancey’s injury-plagued starts

    Dennis can flat out ball.

Just keep your body healthy and stay on the field!

  15. #1bucsfan Says:

Agreed. For the little we saw its looks very encouraging. The injuries took that tho lol

  16. Jwg813 Says:

@Tony Winston was a Nole, Sapp was a Cane. We had a Dunn was a Nole

  17. Jwg813 Says:

Couldn’t think of rb name then I did

  18. BakerFan Says:

This whole Defense is on a PROVE IT TO ME for 2025. LVD is the only one that has skins on the wall, all the rest are on a week to week watch to make me a believer. Stay healthy and be stingy and make plays, then come and talk to us.

  19. Pewter Power Says:

Dennis isn’t considered brittle if the only injury history he has is the shoulder. If surgery can’t fix that would you say he has a brittle shoulder? That would just sound weird

  20. Joe Says:

Dennis isn’t considered brittle if the only injury history he has is the shoulder.

    It’s not.
