“You Could See The Hunger In Guys”

May 20th, 2025

Spring practice is underway at One Buc Palace.

The Bucs offensive players training now at One Buc Palace aren’t quite a pack of wild dogs, but they’ve got plenty of bark and bite for mid-May.

That was the message today from rookie Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard.

“Grizz” said he’s talked to his unit about the groin-kick playoff loss at the Commanders in Tampa four months ago.

Grizzard said he making the point that losing a home playoff game is unacceptable “and how that’s not why we do what we’re doing right now.”

The response is what Grizz wanted.

“So, you can see the hunger in guys to be able to push on in the playoffs and make a run,” he said. “And you can tell through meeting rooms, the questions they’re asking, the stuff we’re getting done on the field … you feel like you’re even a step further [than last season] because we didn’t change a lot in the system. And now we can get into the nuances of route running and how we hit the blocks and get into the shape we get into.

“They’ve been hungry. Nobody’s resting on any of the statistical success we had last year because ultimately, team-wise and in the playoffs was far from what we’re trying to do.”

Joe loves hearing about a seamless transition with the offense to the point, per Grizzard, it feels like the Bucs already have taken a step toward something better.

“The turnovers need to go down from what it was last year”- Grizzard

  2. Purplebeard Says:

I love how the national media dogs this team. As long as they aren’t offering up plates heaped with treacle, that team hunger will stay fresh. Yes, give them a reason to carry that chip on their shoulder!

  3. Mike Says:

Bucs are gonna Buc! Very excited to see the team elevate their game this upcoming season and have full faith and confidence they can do it!

  4. GoneGator Says:

    Bucs tech note…
Would be nice if they would get a microphone to the questioners so we wouldn’t have to guess the questions when watching press conferences or wait for CC.

  5. Bucs And Them Says:

This is going to be a fun season. The defense is going to be noticeably better this year by virtue of players being injured last season, being at full strength this year. Combined with the additions in the draft & free agency. The offense should hit the ground running and Egbuka will prove more than worthy of the first round selection. If the team can avoid the devastating amount of injuries like we suffered last year, we’re going to be a tough team to beat. LFG!!!!!!!

  6. Obvious Says:

Obviously it was very disappointing to see Cohen leave but I was over the moon when they announced an in house hire. You should clearly pick the best person you can for the job but if that person happens to already be here it helps minimize any learning curves.

Keeping the same playbook, terminology and overall approach allows the group to continue to improve and build rather than starting over again.

  7. stpetebucsfan Says:

One thing that excites me in all of this talk. The Bucs are now like the Lightning.

Regular season is only the step you need to take to get to the REAL games.

They’re thinking playoffs or bust and what really counts are playoff wins! That shows how far the franchise has come since the SB cap mortgage came due.

  8. Jayson Lite Says:

Somehow, “hunger” and “turnovers” go together. But let’s hope the turnovers are not being baked by Baker & Company, but are instead coming from the defense.

  9. Kgh4life Says:

“We didn’t change a lot in the system” That’s not what I wanted to hear. Teams have 17 games of tape on the Bucs offense. I hope this not a similar situation to the Byron Leftwich debacle.

  10. GoneGator Says:

    @stpetebucsfan
    Exactly.
Nobody cares what your regular season record looks like…. That’s all just a warmup for the dance. Baker knows this, Todd knows this, Grizz knows this.

While I’d love to see us trounce everybody during the regular season, whats really important is that we’re playing consistent, disciplined football and peaking at the right time.

  11. Buccanstopit Says:

    Kgh4life

We didn’t change a lot in the system

We just need Grizz to watch the first SB video or talk to Gruden about the Raiders offensive game plan back then and how our Defense responded.

  12. #1bucsfan Says:

I agree with what most of yall are saying about this team being fun to watch this season. Also saw someone say we need to cut down on turnovers and I couldn’t agree more. Just based off our defense last year and yes I know we had a lot of injuries but with this defense you can’t turn the ball over with how bad we were. It’s like automatic points for the other team when that happens. I do believe tho this defense will be better just on the health fact alone then you add in a legit pass rusher that we all hope I know terrible word to use but we all hope he gets back to the pass rusher he used to be. Some depth and competition at corner should help and maybe smith going to saftey will make a difference.

  13. infomeplease Says:

Man if the offense improves this season, the rest of the NFC better look out!! I’m pretty sure the defense will improve ( that’s not saying much really) !
To me it looks like, with some favorable penalty calls and a lot of good fortune, this could be the season when the Buc’s become badasses again!!! It just fells like every thing is coming together the right way for success!! I know it’s way too early for these kind of predictions but….

  14. Jeffrey Becker Says:

ooooo this guy sounds perfect. new haircut too! goin for it

  15. Bee Says:

Grizz is speaking my language talking about the playoffs. He also said losing a home playoff game is unacceptable. He’s focused on the turnovers which is good cause that’s the only person I’ve seen associated with the Bucs talking about why they actually lost in the playoffs.

Can’t wait to see what he’s cooking up.

  16. Jeffrey Becker Says:

Playoff city. We don’t face anyone off a bye week this year, just SEA and SF off mini-bye. we get mini-bye vs. CAR. last year we had 9 fewer rest days than opponents but this year we get 2 Extra rest days. maybe this is worth a win vs. last year.

    Famu_Rattler Says:

last year we made it to the playoffs. This year we come back with the hunger to go further. We have all the same pieces, plus a few new additions to correct the weakness from last year. We know we are better, now we will hold everyone accountable to train hard, make sure our teammates train hard, sturdy hard, practice hard and push each other to improve on last years performance. Temper Steel with Steel. make the next man up better. I am hoping for 11-6 or better this year. Go Bucs

  18. Bucsfan Says:

Losing ANY playoff game is unacceptable-home or away.

  20. Oneilbuc Says:

Let’s go bucs don’t care about the regular season record we will win this division and make the playoffs!! I just hope we donate the division but let’s win in the playoffs. At least the NFC Championship then Superbowl next year!!

  21. SlyPirate Says:

    The Good
No roster holes, good depth, no drama, solid in the trenches.

    The Bad
No homerun threat. No explosive play ability.

The team isn’t built to win. It’s built not to lose. It’s very Bowles.

  22. View from 132 Says:

Baker will never have this chance again. This O should dominate. But a high emotion player with a lot of pressure? Could be fun, could be an epic meltdown. Need a true number two QB.

  23. Aqualung Says:

Yes forget about the regular season! Let’s start looking ahead to the playoffs before we win a game, nevermind the division. That’s the way to do it. Forget beating Atlanta. Start planning for the Eagles now.

  24. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

It’s so nice to have these great hopes so early! Going to be a fun summer keeping up.

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Youngry…..let’s take that to Raheem week one!!!

  26. White Tiger Says:

I had a similar sense after signing Reddick, and then the draft…but now hearing coaches mention that meeting with their units, they’re sensing something similar – has me READY for this season to start!

  27. Davyboy Says:

Onei, I’ll give you this, you are a true Buc fan and that is good to see.

  28. EasyEd Says:

The Yankees are doing decently well without Gerrit Cole. The Warriors might remain competitive without Steph Curry. But if Mayfield gets hurt the Bucs season will.effectively be over. They elected not to sign a backup with NFL experience. I get that the available options are pretty much proven lovers. But with someone like a Mac Jones there would be a chance for some wins. With what we have? I’ll be a Bucs fan no matter what. Just wish we could realistically believe losing Baker wouldn’t close the book on us.

  29. BuccaDAWG Says:

Joe ,I gotta tellya, I like the way that the NFL media is disrespecting the BUCS. On top of the hunger let’s put a big Chip on their shoulder. GO BUCS!!!!
