Why Pete Prisco Loved Bucs Draft
May 1st, 2025
More roses for Bucs GM.
It’s weird. Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS made it clear: He wasn’t down with the Bucs drafting Emeka Egbuka.
Prisco loves Egbuka. But he doesn’t believe the underrated Ohio State receiver was a good fit for Tampa Bay at No. 19.
Still, Prisco shrugs, it wasn’t like Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht drafted a stiff. He got a good player.
However, Prisco praised Licht for the rest of the draft.
The Skinny: It’s time Bucs general manager Jason Licht gets the due for being a good drafter. He continues to nail his picks. This draft was no different. Egbuka going in the first was a little odd — even if he is a good player — but Licht made up for it the rest of the draft. He got two corners in Benjamin Morrison and Parrish, which they needed. I like seventh-round receiver Tez Johnson. He plays faster than he ran at the combine.
Joe really thinks fans should monitor edge rusher David Walker and defensive lineman Elijah Roberts. Joe thinks the Bucs got serious quality there in Rounds 4 and 5, respectively.
Ought to be a fun training camp.

Trust Licht….

Joe is goosestepping down the road saying, “Go along. go along”.
Just because you think something is true or false doesn’t make it so.
That goes for everyone’s opinion, mine included.
I have no issue with Joe or others offering their opinions.
But the need for everyone else to agree and repeat in unison is downright insanity.
May 1st, 2025 at 10:55 am
First response did not take. 2nd try.
And what’s with the garbage. “Just because you think something’s true doesn’t make it so”?
That’s not wisdom, that’s common sense with a superiority complex.
Don’t pretend your little parade of negativism is some act of mental freedom.
Sometimes marching in your own direction just means you’re lost.

Sounds like Swiss cheese can’t handle everyone disagreeing with their absolutely AWFUL opinion on this draft. Listen your opinion is just that, but don’t sit here and whine that you’re on an island. You put yourself there with such a bad take on the draft lol

28-27

SwissCheeseDefense
28-27… but let’s put it into context. Eight wins in Brady’s last season. He had no desire to be out there and his little dink and dunk checkdown constant smoke screen act was evidence. The offense was awful and Brady was 75% of the reason. Leftwich probably wanted to continue running the No Risk it, No Biscuit offense that had been so stellar the previous three seasons but was overruled by Brady because he’s not a future Hall of Famer and Brady ran the show… if there was ever a time for Arians to put somebody in their place, 2022 was it. We won the division that season, gave away game 17 and rested all of our starters against the Falcons, at worst, an 8-8 team.
In 2023, despite salary cap Hell and the seemingly disaster of Brady retiring, Licht went out on an impossibly tight budget, reclaimed Mayfield and won nine game and a playoff game. That was some amazing GMing there… especially considering what an awful OC Dave Canales was/is.
Then last year, the last year of salary cap Hell… team goes 10-7 despite dropped four in a row during a stretch where our two starting WRs were out. The offense was a top unit again behind Baker and again, our OC gets a head coaching job… they should all be thanking Mayfield because, like Peyton Manning, he’s a king maker. Neither of those coaches deserved head coaching jobs, Canales was/is incompetent and Coen had been a vagabond since he started coaching. He makes Bobby Petrino seem stable and we all know how Petrino has fared as an NFL head coach.
All in all, considering the circumstances, 28-27 is amazing. Plus, the roster looks even better this year so the wins will keep coming. I suppose you yearn for the day of Mark Dominik who can’t even explain his greatest mess-ups (Adrian Clayborn over Cam Jordan and Justin Houston) and struck out miserably on most other draft choices and nearly 100% of free agents.

Wow. There’s a whole lot of conceit there… Let’s start with the idea that you are an arbiter of truth. Hahaha… We’re talking about football.
Being stubbornly negative, a lemming in your own echo chamber doesn’t make you brilliant either. Your criticism is just an opinion as well. Being negative is easy. It’s a crying baby quoting Noam Chomsky to make it seem like it’s something more mature than whining and crying.
This is football. This isn’t some conspiracy against the people to brainwash the masses into accepting their first round pick. Fans can have a balanced view, the negatives and the positives, and there’s a whoie lot of reason for optimism with this team and the guys they drafted.

Teams that consistently draft well will always be at the top of the league. We should start to pick up compensatory picks as players leave for greener pastures (we cant keep everyone) and will hopefully stay strong for years to come.

Don’t engage the trolls. They are here to argue. They would argue with their friends but I am quite sure, being the arbiter of truth that I am, those friends jumped ship a long time ago.

@Brandon
THANKS! GRACIAS! Whatever. That is just an EXCELLENT synopsis of what happened. I’ve tried but I haven’t laid it out as well as you and my attempts made many of your points.
I think many here simply think I’m anti-Brady. That is not true of course but again NOBODY is perfect and TWO or more things (which you laid out perfectly) can be true at the same time! Brady was and is the GOAT. His first year as a Buc he played like a GOAT. His final year he was an unmotivated, fearful, old man. He’s not the first to leave as a GOAT with a tarnish on his record for simply staying too long. I get it…he has the right.
Filthy Animal – Great response to Swiss Cheese
SwissCheese – Lemmings? The name of the site is Joe Bucs FAN. FANS are supposed to be biased by nature. Most of us however attempt to back up our biases with some facts as laid out by Brandon.
You on the other hand are also biased but negatively. And that’s alright as well IF you simply BACK UP YOUR BIAS with facts. You literally compared Baker to Jameis Winston when there are NO facts to back that and many which I laid out yesterday that prove the total ignorance of that comparison.
I do not call you a lemming but you post like a TROLL! If you made valid points you wouldn’t be getting so much blowback. If this was a Bucs fan site you wouldn’t get so much blowback.
Which brings up the obvious question. WHY are you even here? Not questioned with snark but genuine curiosity.
May 1st, 2025 at 11:58 am
I found it pretty amusing that Swisscheese trotted out the ole lemmings metaphor.
He probably still believes they marched off a cliff on their own.
Anyone who’s peeked behind that curtain has known for at least 20 years that it was some guy from NBC — or maybe CBS — who literally shoved them off for dramatic effect.
So, just like he doesn’t get the lemmings, Swisscheese completely misunderstands JoeBucsFan.
How fitting.

Betting early doesn’t always get you the win but it gets you the odds,,,
Just bet our first rounder for the offensive rookie of the year 40-1 ,,, He may not win but at 40-1 , that’s pot odds indeed

50% of 1st round picks are busts!
Licht is not going to miss a 1st round player ever again.
Egbuka is a guaranteed professional WR.
A guaranteed successor to Mike Evans and Godwin.
Again. 50% of 1st round picks are busts.
There is a zero percent chance that Egbuka will be a bust.
May 1st, 2025 at 12:55 pm
Vernon Hargreaves. Bust.
JTS. Bust.
OJ Howard. Bust.
Jameis Winston. Bust.
Austin Sefarian Jenkins. Bust.
Aguayo. Bust.
Devin White. Bust. (Long term)
Never again.
Never again will we draft a bust in rounds 1 or 2.
Licht has learned his lesson.
Play it safe in rounds 1-5. BPA.
And BMA.
Best Man Available.
Guaranteed contributors. That’s the key.

But he wasn’t chosen, he was forced upon us all.

Swiss Cheese is someone like KobeFaker reincarnated or just too embarrassed to use his past name as KobeFaker.
We’ve seen those trolls.
He will probably pick the Bucs to lose each week and then the weeks we win, he will blame the win on some bad part of the other team.
Very Jeff like, very KobeFaker like.
It’s like the Glazers did not tip him enough in his job as a bathroom attendant.
May 1st, 2025 at 1:40 pm
Heh. SwissCheeseDefense, your kind doesn’t last long here. Not under the same usernames.
Moving on:
When we were stuck with Lovie Smith and Jason Licht, I felt Smith paid the price for everything, while Licht skated along with hardly any blame.
However…he was new at being a GM, and since then he has gotten increasingly better each year. He might be that best drafting GM I’ve ever seen at this point…but it took time for him to develop into what he is today.
I suspect the Glazers focused on having Jason Licht give head coaches what they wanted from the beginning…but…I believe that changed just before we got Bruce Arians.
I think Jason finally was trusted with full control at that point, and that is when things improved dramatically. Arians. Brady. Great drafts.
Even the guys we thought were busts the past few years have been mostly developing into quality players.
May 1st, 2025 at 1:43 pm
So far as Todd Bowles…he was a total HC bust with his previous team, but he is also improving here.
Overcoming a season of losing can be tough for any head coach. It changes the coach’s entire win/loss record dramatically. And it is hard to catch back up and overcome it.
Bowles has been chipping away, improving his record from year to year.
I don’t really care what he did previously. I care about what he does in the present, and in the present, his players love him and play hard for him.
He and Licht have made this a popular team to play for…which is a huge change from the past.
May 1st, 2025 at 2:15 pm
I think part of the reason for.Bowles bad overall record is he coached for the Jets and then he coached for the Bucs after major offensive line problems (injury, retirement and leaving in free agency) and being in post Brady cap hell.
Didn’t he coach the chips to their only winning record and a really long time? Anyone he can do that for that train wreck of an organization has done an amazing feat, working up stream.
I like our current roster. There are weaknesses, it’s not perfect, but I’ll take it over 90% of any other NFL team… maybe all of them. We’ll see how we do. I’m expecting good things … and for the negative trolls to eat some crow.
Go Bucs!!

Lovie Duvie had full control over personnel. The final say in all matters relating to players signed, released and drafted. It was in his contract…..
Also – Lovie HIRED Jason Licht – Soooooo……..
Yea – Lovie Smith was fully responsible for the embarrassment that was the Buccaneers 2014 and 2015 seasons..

So Petes quote is ” They made up for it…., as if drafting Ohio States best W.R was some sort of hurdle we have to overcome!? Pressing need or not, bad take, especially if E.E. is a perennial pro bowler

May 1st, 2025 at 3:21 pm
Would of preferred Barron at 19, but like everyone else the more I thought about it it made sense. I absolutely LOVE every pick in this draft and thought Licht got incredible value on most these picks especially our 4th n 5th with Roberts and David. Expecting big things from those guys. Even our 7th round pick Tez I’m geeked about. He will be our new return man. I’m calling it now

Costanza is brilliant so keep his name outta yer mouth, LOL. What is truth. Pilate once asked that. There’s truth that is proven, truth that is in peoples minds, and the truth that people choose to ignore because it doesn’t fit into what they want it to. Then there are those who ignore it just to be spiteful and try to get others to follow them in their pretense. Philosophers have done this for years but in the end the truth always wins out. Some just don’t want to see it and that’s cool, that is their right. Don’t need to be a rocket surgeon to see that.
