What About The Past Three Practices Closed To Media?

May 31st, 2025

SirVocea Dennis

Buccaneers spring practices were on lockdown Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, closed to the prying eyes of media.

However, Joe was able to bribe a few window washers, fly a couple of high-altitude drones and extort information from a football staffer.

Sage insider Ira Kaufman also was pressed to unearth information with two coconut donuts. The result was satisfying Joe’s hunger to learn who was shining brightly on the practice fields.

The Bucs, Joe learned, are very pleased by the standout practices from their first four draft picks: Emeka Egbuka, Benjamin Morrison, Jacob Parrish and David Walker. Yes, Morrison. The health of the second-round pick cornerback is more than holding up after hip surgery.

Remember on Tuesday when Todd Bowles mentioned undrafted rookie J.J. Roberts in the mix for the starting nickel job? Well, the Bucs remain very high on what the safety out of Wake Forest and Marshall is delivering through four OTA practices.

What veterans impressed more than others?

Two were put on Joe’s plate: receiver Jalen McMillan and inside linebacker SirVocea Dennis, who had an interception of Baker Mayfield in front of media on Tuesday.

Joe’s got names of more undrafted players, as well, but no need to tell the NFL world too much. Joe doesn’t want Team Glazer to shoot down one of Joe’s drones.

Did our boy, Mr. Reddick ever show up?

  2. Shak Says:

If Watson makes it, it will be because they paid him or they want to develop him. From the few videos I have seen, he looks lazy. He is always the last one to get anywhere, he’s the last one to start or finish a rep. Just terrible body language. Anyone who allows themselves to get that big, without a health issue, isn’t a hard worker for sure anyway. I just thought I would see him trying to go all out in practice to warrant making the team. I thought he would try to prove his weight isn’t going to hold him back. I just want him to look like he isn’t wasting a shot that someone else who would do anything for the same chance! Look like you want it, go like this is your last shot!

If not, it doesn’t mater. JPP didn’t eith at first.

    Mandatory starts 10 June

  5. FilthyAnimal Says:

    See who’s on that list?

A UDFA safety. Guess what, his name isn’t Sanders. Which is the point a few of us were making while all the casual name-recognition-only crowd was creaming their jeans over Shilo… we signed a better prospect in Roberts, but everyone was buying into the celebrity.

  6. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

If Sanders can ball – great. If not, I’d rather not hear his name at all.

  7. Robert Azrak Says:

Roberts will be a star in this league. My opinion of his SMU video was that the Bucs got a late round steal. He’s gonna help protect the middle of the field that we all know has been exploited by our opponents. Good things coming our way.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

The best two UDFAs will be the Safety JJ Roberts and Bullock the ILB from Nabraska not the two that are getting all the pub. I look at Chukwuma the OT and D. Watson DT as longer term practice squad projects. Jake Majors IOL and Sanders could prove me wrong but they seem to be further behind and kinda long shots to even make it on the practice squad.

  9. Kevin Says:

    What about Tez Johnson

  10. Crickett Baker Says:

I wonder about Tez, too. Shilo should have a huge will to prove he can make (at LEAST) the practice squad.

  11. FilthyAnimal Says:

Again, why is anyone more interested in Shilo than Roberts? Name recognition is the only reason, and that’s a stupid reason.

  12. Pops Malone Says:

Ira and his coconut donuts. Hey guys, I am up here in Chicago and it was nice to listen to Joebucsfan on the radio today. You guys need to keep that going, good stuff and much appreciated. Have a coconut donut!

  13. Scott Says:

I have been feening for any news out of practice the last three days. I thought they would have atleast one of the days open to the media.

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

“Anyone who allows themselves to get that big, without a health issue,”

If by without a health issue we’re talking about genetics as well then I agree.

But at 77 I no longer judge anybody for their physical shape. I was blessed to have certain genes that are good for being athletic overall and in good shape. But the “gene” I can’t determine is the one that GAVE me self discipline. Many are motivated, fewer have the self discipline to enact those motivations. There are many mornings I roll out of bed at 4:00 to get to the swimming pool by 5. I take NO credit for this. I honeslty do not know how I do this. I’m just lucky or for the religious here, blessed.

So I do not judge who don’t get out of bed and hit hard and early, I just feel sorry that they weren’t given that same “self discipline” gene. IF I knew where it came from or how to bottle it, I’d sell it and make more money than an NBA player.

  15. stpetebucsfan Says:

BTW Speaking of genes…your body produces all the fats cells it’s going to in the first 5 or 6 years of life. After that no more new fat cells. You just make the ones you have grow bigger and bigger and get fat.

Now consider the implications. Children raised by parents who fed them sweets and cakes and plenty of sugary soda got waaaay more fat cells than those who were raised by health conscious parents.

That means the former, with many more fat cells get fat far easier than those who have fewer fat cells. Again how you were raised and what you were fed has a LOT to do with how much you struggle to maintain healthy weight.

“Jimmy, what’s wrong? Why you crying?”
“I’m crying cause my life is over. My dumb mommy fed me nothing but sweets and cakes my first five years. A guy called Stpetebucsfan told my daddy the fat from that stuff would never go away!”
    “But Jimmy, you’re only 7.”
“I know, that’s the point. My life is already over!”

This wasn’t really the point. But the mockery says something about you.

here we go again… people more interested in the celebrity name than the player… we signed another safety UDFA who is a better prospect… but people keep wanting to go back to sanders… who gives a flock? If you’re interested in football you’ll be more interested in the other prospects who aren’t around just because of their name.

I am dying laughing over here!!!

Its not mockery. Its hilarious if you actually pucture the conversation. My dumb mommy gave me nothing but sweets. My dumb mommy gets me

  22. JA Says:

    Filthy—
    I rest my case …
You know not of what you speak. Too bad, because I actually agreed with you about Sanders.
Now, you’ve become a reminder to give my dog a bath.
And there’s a difference between humor and mockery.
Humor was for Stpete. Mockery was for you.
    Lighten up, Dude.

  23. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Benjamin Morrison is going to be a steal. Book it!
Totally agree with St. Pete. It’s all about the cardio. Bike, swim, hike, walk, step mill – do something every day of your life and you will not believe the physical and psychological benefits!

  24. Rod Munch Says:

Awesome to hear! While these camps don’t mean a ton, you always want to hear about your young guys looking good and not lost.

Also nice nugget about J.J. Roberts – was just reading up on him, seems like he has the speed and quickness needed, but he’s an older prospect and they say undersized, but 5′ 10″ 180 is plenty big enough for nickel. Also he’s a bit overaggressive, although the comments were about him at safety, so not sure how that translates to nickel. Will be interesting to see if does anything, and always fun to read about some guys I haven’t really looked into before.

  25. Larrd Says:

I hear you, StPete. I refuse to take any credit for my stunningly handsome good looks, superior intelligence, awesome athletic talents, sterling character or deep humility! Just born that way!

  26. Larrd Says:

Dennis sure seems to intercept a lot of passes in practice. I sure hope he can hold up this year and play.

  27. firethecannons Says:

Enjoy hearing about this, just glad these guys are on the field. As usual caannot wait to see our rooks especially david Walker.

  28. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Larrd

Happy for all your blessings. Understanding about your lack of compassion and empathy for others. Well we can’t ever truly get it “all” eh?

  29. Jeffrey Becker Says:

    funny stuff man

  30. LakelandSteve Says:

I’ve seen two articles from New York Jets media basically laughing at the Bucs for signing Reddick. They intimate that the Bucs are getting the same Reddick they got saying he hasn’t changed a bit. I hope he decides to show up to training camp and put his best foot forward and play like he did for the Eagles.

  31. Pryda30 Says:

    Can’t wait to see it

  32. PresidentBowles Says:

It says a lot about the Glazers that they won’t allow the fans to watch the practices.

Smells like they’re trying to hide something.

Perhaps they don’t even watch the games anymore.

No one in the NFL is fooled by Bowles, except for them.

  33. Larrd Says:

    LOL!

  34. Godlovesbucs Says:

Reddick wants one more contract. Sitting out of jets was an attempt to force an extension. Sitting out here will only guarantee this is his last NFL contract. He has wayyyyyyyy more than 14 million reasons to play this year.

  35. Aqualung Says:

Todd won’t show it now, but we can expect the “drop everyone deep while the beer vendors yell” defense a few times in game one. It’s coming.

  36. garro Says:

    Great espionage Joe! LOL
Love the opening and thanks for the laugh.
Picturing Ira stashing a secret bag of donuts in his super secret Bill Currie Ford glove box makes me a a happy Bucs fan! LOL

You are indeed the man Ira!

    Go Bucs!

  37. Zoocomics Says:

Perhaps I missed something in another article but is there any reason to believe we won’t keep both Roberts and Sanders?

Appears based on the comments, it’s one or the other…I get it’s a 53-man roster, and both are undrafted safeties, but the article mentions they are looking at Roberts more in the mix at Nickel. Roberts might not be a good fit at FS or SS at the Pro Level. Seems to me Sanders is more in line to be depth at Safety along with Izien. I think there’s more room on this team than fans think to add undrafted free agents on the 53-man roster. If both these guys show to be talented enough, they’ll figure out how to keep them without being poached by other teams.

  38. Teacherman Says:

    Bowles is the DB whisperer.

I’m happy this guy JJ Roberts is balling.

We are stacked at DB right now.

    But DT? I’m not satisfied.

I wish we would bring JPP back as a DE/DT this time. Not as an OLB.

JPP would have a great effect on our young guys.

    Even if just at practice.

If he doesn’t make the team. Oh well.

But I think JPP would be a great backup to Hall and Kancey.

  39. PresidentBowles Says:

    Teacherman Says:

    “Bowles is the DB whisperer.”

What does he whisper to them?

“If it’s third and six, play a soft zone fifteen yards off the ball”. – Defensive Guru Todd Bowles

    🤣🤣🤣🤣
