Bucs running back Rachaad White loves the spotlight, but he is a team-first guy, an interesting mix of look-at-me and humble.
Bucky Irving raved about White embracing him last season during a recent visit to Up & Adams.
On his YouTube Channel last week, White posted a video about his typical offseason day. In one scene, he heads to a deserted field with his personal trainer in what looks like Tampa.
After “speed work,” White can be seen sprinting, he talks to the camera and exposes his everything-must-be-earned mentality.
“Now I’m going to do some field work, you know what I’m saying, trying to keep my job,” White said before joking that he might get a part-time gig at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
White mentioned protecting the ball and then said, “You gotta protect that chicken. That’s what Marshawn [Lynch] said.”
Now Lynch’s famous chicken quote was presumed to be referring to money, aka chicken. So maybe that was a tipoff that White knows he’s in his contract year and his prepping to ball out like never before.
All Joe can say is, as Joe wrote on these pages, the rumor of White being on the trade block was ludicrous. Why exactly would the Bucs trade an inexpensive and versatile running back coming off a 9-touchdown season? It’s not like White was going to fetch anything significant.

No way we should trade White anymore than Godwin for example. He is insurance against Bucky going. down and besides that he is good

Is he a Pure running back? Does it matter?
He is productive, trustworthy, reliable. Unless something better comes along, you happily keep him

I see no reason for trading White, does make no sense.
He and Irving are great together, and if they add minutes to Sean Tucker, I will not complaint.
I love the running back situation.

He’s our 3rd-best RB behind Buck & Tuck.
And his touches this season should reflect that.

Anybody that wants to ship out Rachad clearly doesn’t know anything about pass pro. He is our best and it’s not really close. Bucky and Tucker are far and away the better runners but not nearly as willing or effective blockers.

Times change quickly with good management. They now have a deep RB room, WR room, O-Line room, Edge (OLB) room, DT room, CB room
ILB and TE are thin. Could argue Safety but the DBs are versatile.
White is a great backup

The only starter I would consider trading is Dean. I’d only do that if Morrison is ready to take over. Dean is not worth the money they’re paying him as a backup. You’d have to be nuts to trade White. Like Joe says he comes cheap, and he’s pretty good. Now, giving him a second contract is a whole other story.

Bucs’ offense is typically on the field for 1050 – 1150 offensive plays each season, yet we only run it roughly 450 times on average nowadays (roughly 25 times a game). Our RBs typically are on the field pass-blocking at least as often as they’re running the ball.
Rachaad will get plenty of work this season, just like he did last season (591 offensive snaps, that included toting the ball 144 times, plus being targeted another 57 times). There was surely a LOT of pass-blocking in there.

Given what FA CBs are fetching nowadays, Dean is relatively cheap. I wouldn’t resign him, but I wouldn’t trade him for less than the likely comp pick they’d receive, either.

Everything DR said plus, the few times White was on the field with Bucky, good things happened. Hopefully, those good things are a bigger part of the plan this year.

Rachaad gets a bum rap from this group of naysayers.
He came in when the o-line was crap. I believe this is the first time time in 4
years the team has the same starting 5 linemen.
If you look at the players starting at each position in the SB vs at the end of last year, there was only one player left still playing his SB position, Evans. Godwin was out, Wirfs changed sides. Everyone else was gone.
No down field speed threat, no HOF QB or TE. Nobody from the running back group, the line was rebuilt. Coaching turmoil, yet White is the problem.

The one week Bucky started and Tucker was RB2, Tucker was named offensive player of the week.
I’m not a rocket scientist but seems like a better combo.

I LOVE 2-back sets to create a nice change of pace. Lots of options there for a QB like Baker.

Tucker had 1 good game against a defense that had given up. As much as I’d like to see him be great, he hasn’t shown much of anything outside of one game…. And he has had opportunities.
Rachaad is by far our best back in protection. Great receiver, runs hard, blocks his azz off.
Last year’s man crush (for some of y’all) mis-used White as the season went on.
Hopefully Grizz cooks up more creative uses for RW AND the rest of the RB krewe this year

Tucker was a combine beast too so plenty strong enough to pass protect.

White is clearly the best blocker, in pass protection and as a run blocker. He catches the ball as well as anybody on the team. As I recall at one point he led the team with the highest catch percentage. He definitely has improved as a runner with this OL. He is dependable and productive, and deserves a second contract. I want to see more from Tucker. We have the best RB room that we’ve ever had. Rotate them. Keep everybody fresh and healthy. Don’t overload Bucky. Also want to see more of Culp, and get Tez involved too. This is going to be fun to watch. Mayfield has to be delirious with his options.

Wrong @David. the only room that is thin is the ILB. TE is 4 deep with 88Otton, 41Keith, 87Durham and 82Culp. We have blocking , mauling, catching and speed. TE’s are ready to be called on. Go Bucs.
