Todd Bowles On Shilo Sanders: “He’s Very Intelligent, He’s Very Loud”

May 9th, 2025

Bucs UDFA safety Shilo Sanders.

Seems like one of the undrafted free agents is making sure no one is overlooking him.

Deion Sanders was one of the greatest football players who ever lived. Joe could make a very good argument Sanders was every bit the athlete Bo Jackson was (did Jackson ever hit .533 in a World Series?).

And Sanders was never ever a wallflower.

It seems Sanders’ son Shilo Sanders takes after his dad, at least with the personality. The younger Sanders is a Bucs undrafted free agent trying to make the team as a safety.

Todd Bowles, a former NFL safety himself, seems impressed by Shilo Sanders, at least from the head up.

“He’s very intelligent, he’s very loud,” Bowles said after today’s first rookie minicamp practice.

Those are two attributes Bowles embraces for defensive backs.

“You can hear him today, making calls and everything, so he has a good grasp of things Day 1,” Bowles said.

Sanders wasn’t the only guy who seems to know what he’s doing on the Bucs practice fields, Bowles said. But one can be as smart as Stephen Hawking but it won’t matter if a guy can’t make plays.

For Bowles, that’s what Sanders has to prove.

“You have to make plays in pads,” Bowles said. Yes, rookie minicamp is underwear football with no pads and no hitting of any sort.

“That’s what it comes down to – knowing what to do and then doing it consistently and constantly getting better every day.”

So can Sanders make plays? It’s hard to tell in shorts and jerseys. But the way Bowles spoke of how smart Sanders is, it seems he will at least make it to Bucs training camp in July.

    Pulling for the kid.

TB#1 – yes he’ll play 15 yards off the line on 4 and 7. Just saving you the effort of posting that drivel. lol

Better chance Shiloh has a successful career is probably more likely than his brother Shadeur.

Shiloh haven’t seen him play or pass on in Tampa Bay, but ya know we have a roster spot available arguably at 2nd string safety. We also have a lot of candidate’s fighting for a position. I can see kaevon or Wisdom fighting for a starting spot if Tykee doesn’t move over. I also could see Josh Hayes maybe moving to S as a backup. Lot of reps will be shared and split on ST and the best tackling DBs might get that 2nd string role if you ask me.

Gotta think the rookie DB plays NB but not guaranteed that happens necessarily!

the whole very intelligent comment makes me wonder about his physical attributes

  5. DoooshLaRue Says:

A son of Deion is loud?

    Go figure.
    😀

  6. ChiBuc Says:

^Oh, but she has a pretty face

  7. Keepitsoild Says:

The kid is a perfect steal and is a diamond in the rough. Watch he just needed the haters to allow him to look back and question why he was overlooked in cones from a gifted athletic father who has been training him for success for his entire life. This kid will be the only thing in the lime light because he has to be the best or his career is done. He’s out to prove everyone different. Todd only has given this young guy a opportunity and fair shot at show casing the intelligent and natural instinct to renew his dad’s legacy. Remember I told you!!

  8. Swissbuc Says:

Do you guys think if he adds some strength and size he could maybe play some linebacker? I mean he has the speed and he can tackle okay

  9. Ryan Says:

The juice isn’t worth the squeeze for Shilo. Let’s move on.

  10. Lightning Buc Says:

Bo Jackson never saw a hit he didn’t want to engage (and win) and Deion never saw a potential hit he wasn’t afraid of. It’s not flag football.

  11. FilthyAnimal Says:

There is no reason to pull more for this guy than for than for any other UDFA, but people see to think that his DNA means we should care more. I’m not falling for the Sanders hype. If he can play then fine, but I’d prefer we didn’t have anyone related to Deion on our team.

  12. WeDemBoyzFromDaBay Says:

These two brothers take slot of criticism for obvious reasons but after watching a lot of there videos and get to know the two the more U will realize that Shilo is the opposite of his brother. Shaduer was the one with the giant ego and felt entitled to be handed everything until he got humbled. $hilo was not, he knew he wasn’t getting drafted and knew he was gonna have to work for everything. The more u watch the kid the more u can’t help but to root for him. Kid is absolutely hilarious too. Love his personality n sense of humor.

Imagine this kid mic up. 😂

    #PURE ENTERTAINMENT.

  13. FilthyAnimal Says:

Why do you root for him any more than anyone else? Only because of his name. Terrible reason.

  14. Aqualung Says:

Well, with Todd’s defense requiring every player to know how the play call changes with 6 different formation shifts, each with 3 or 4 sub variants, second derivatives of personnel packages, and verbatim quotation of the second law of thermodynamics on every play, at least Steven Hawking would know what to do every play. Maybe Shiloh can be that coach on the field who tells everyone what they need to do every play, loud and clear enough for them all to hear it.

  15. Knothead71 Says:

If the kid can play, keep him. As long as he doesn’t bring foolishness.
I just don’t want to see the typical crap that Dieon drags around splatter in Tampa.
No offense to Shilo, but I wanted nothing to do with this family. But here we are.
Now I want the young man to prove me wrong.
Let’s Go young man! Be a Buccaneer!

  16. Aqualung Says:

If he’s that smart, he makes the team. It’s more important to have a Mensa IQ in Todd’s defense than it is to be fast and athletic. We tend to waste the fast athletic guys.

  17. WeDemBoyzFromDaBay Says:

    Filthy animal asks:
“Why do u root for him? Because of his name? Terrible reason.”

Hmmm, let’s see, let’s start with the fact that his father was arguably the greatest athlete of all time and my favorite player growing up. And it’s cool to see those same players now have there own kids playing and that usually means they have inherited those same god given talent thru genes so there’s a reason why they have gotten to the league. Not just because his last name is Sanders. The NFL does not care about any of that. So if your in the league there’s a reason.

I’m sorry but that was a ignorant thing to say. Common sense

  18. Robert E Says:

He’s an UDFA who could make the team because he’s a good football player. As fans all we should care about is if he can make the team better. If he can let’s go win some games. If he can’t then he’s out just like any other guy.

He doesn’t get a free pass because of his dad and let’s not give the kid a hard time because his brother and father have pretty big egos.

By all accounts Shilo is far more low key. Let’s see what he can do.

  19. FilthyAnimal Says:

No, that’s not common sense… but cool isn’t you’re a Deion lover and want to root for his family. I despised Deion even if I recognize hi as one of the all time greats… but I’d rather keep his DNA off the team unless his son is a clear upgrade over anything we have… but this kid was constantly injured wasn’t he.

  20. C2asante Says:

You people hate on a young man pursuing his dreams simply because his Fathers confidence offends you. You root for athletes who have sexually and physically assaulted women, been arrested for drunk driving, and all manner of bad behavior, but the one that bothers you is Deon Sanders who has never drank, smoked, used drugs, doesn’t curse, respects women, loves God, loves his kids…. But because he is a confident Black man who doesn’t give a damn about bowing to you people, you not only hate him, you hate his children. That is really sick and sad.

  21. DoooshLaRue Says:

    ^^^^^^^^
    There’s always at least one.
    😂

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It would be a huge get if Sanders can make the team. The positive publicity alone.

  23. heyjude Says:

So happy the Bucs gave Shilo a chance. Good kid too. After reading the mini-camp overview and this post, he is going to be another force for the Bucs.
