Mike Evans Talks To Kevin Hart About Baker, Brady And Losing

May 30th, 2025

Has Mike Evans gone Hollywood?

Absolutely not.

But he did do a sitddown for the Cold As Balls show with actor comedian Kevin Hart on the LOL Network. The premise is Hart sits in an ice tub with an NFL player and talks football and life.

Evans shared a few uplifting nuggets.

Joe was very encouraged by Evans answering “not really” when asked if football is harder on his body now than when he was younger. Evans also added that his recovery from games has “gotten better.”

“I use the cold tub more. I get more massages, and not those type of massages, to help my performance on the field,” Evans said. “Normal massage, staying in the training room.”

As for the future, Evans explained that only after a full season can he assess his physical and mental state for football.

No, Evans didn’t hint at retirement, only a benign nod to it when talking about how Baker Mayfield has inspired him.

“He’s a big reason to why I came back,” Evans said of Mayfield. “The energy that he’s brought to Tampa after Tom [Brady]; and that’s some huge, huge shoes to fill. Huge act to follow. And I think he’s done an unbelievable job winning two division championships, making it to the postseason. But Tampa’s in great hands with Baker. I’m sure he’ll play much longer than I will, but I’m looking forward to a great season this year and competing for a Super Bowl.”

Evans also noted how Brady changed the Bucs’ culture from Day 1 back in 2020.

“Everybody’s energy just changed. Like everybody’s confidence just grew to a whole another level,” Evans said. ” … It was just different. Like when Tom Brady’s around, you have to go hard. It’s just something inside you just makes you want to play harder for that guy because of what he’s done for the game and how he comes to work.”

Reflecting on his career, Evans talked about the impact of his five years of losing during The Lost Decade.

“Personally, it doesn’t fu** with me, but it fu**s with our fan base,” Evans said. “It’s a different kind of energy when you come into the stadium [when you’re losing].”

He went on to say how eye-opening it was back then playing road games against teams with strong support. “It gives them a different type of energy. Early on in my career we didn’t have that,” Evans said.

Now, it sounds like Evans needs to keep winning to stay in the NFL. He talked about the misery of running tons of routes in the Florida heat and not winning, and how losing in the environment “weighs on you.”

It seems to me that signing Baker was almost functionally for free. Put this together with something Licht said not long ago – players are signing to play with him – and its seems people are signing for less and not retiring due to him running the ship.

A lot o these guys are set for life so a few million more somewhere else where they are not likely to have as much fun is less of a pull than it would be to us.

Guys are signing to play with him–thats Baker 🤷🏽

  3. D-Rome Says:

Getting rid of Jameis and GMC was definitely a turning point for the franchise.

I watched that episode of Cold as Balls just a couple days ago.
Mike joked around with Hart and it was fun to watch.
Harts 5′ 4″ frame look really short next to Mike. LOL
    A foot+ difference!

  5. Gipper Says:

ME13 has it all wrong. Rod Munch knows a lot more than ME13, the entire O line, coaches, LVD, et al. Munch, why won’t you straighten out these lost souls?

  6. First Last Says:

Munch hasn’t been around in awhile, seems he was wrong on Baker. Though here is to hoping that Baker protects himself this year but puts it all on the line for a playoff run at the end of the year. Here is to hoping for an undefeated season lol!

  7. Henry Says:

Mike needs to join the bald is bad@$$ club and shave that thinning hair off his head

    Hell of a dude!

  11. Fan of the South Says:

Send Mayfield to talk to Hendrickson. I’m sure he will forget about more money, be convinced that Burrow is a Bum and get him to come to Tampa for a legitimate Super Bowl opportunity. After all it’s a lot easier to win in the NFCS than it is in the AFCN. Should be an easy sell.

“and not those type of massages.” Nice little dig at Deshaun, pretty funny

  13. David Says:

Not those type of massages… That’s funny. I need to watch this. Just like the hour of Gruden and LVD… Great stuff.

With munch and his ilk, first it was, Baker didn’t have a pro arm, too weak, then he got the record for longest pass in a game. Then Baker wasn’t accurate, then Baker had the highest completion percentage in the league. Then Baker couldn’t run, he couldnt escape, he was too slow and Then Baker went out and had more first down conversions than anybody in the league. Then it was, Baker can’t read defenses. Then the OC, Cohen, let him, at the line, read the defense and change the play and that was when we had the 3rd ranked offense and Baker broke several records, reading the defense, that he couldn’t read. Then it was, he only does good because he has Godwin and Evans and then he didn’t due to injury and he still found a way to have a top 3 offense. Then it was, he’s so bad he will get people fired. Then he played so good he got 2 OC’s their first HC jobs. He will regress in 2024. Then he went out and led the league in passing yardage. Completion percentage and touchdowns. He will win you 6 games and that’s it. Baker then went out when everyone said we would win 4 games and won 10 and won the NFC South. Then he said, this year I have them at 5-12 and it was 11-7. Baker is only capable of scoring 14 points. He went out and averaged 30 points a game, 3rd in the league without his best receivers. The big one we heard 1,001 times, he is a middling quarterback at best, still hearing it. Then he went out and the NFL ranked him top 5 in 2024, ahead of Mahomes in most stats. Comparing Faker to Mahomes is laughable. Then for 2 years Baker beat him in almost every category 😀 Bakers a midget and can’t see over the line. Then he goes out and leads the league in several passing stats, over the line he cant see over. He is a choker, a bum. Then we find out Baker has the highest passer rating in postseason play of ALL TIME, the opposite of a choker. Then it was, we got a guy no one wanted. Then superbowl winning coach Bruce Arians said if he ever came out of retirement to coach again, he would want to coach the team Baker Mayfield was on. 🤣 lmao A normal person would just shut up knowing you has been wrong about a subject sooo many times but not our resident goofball. He just keeps yappin. I guess when you don’t have to face anyone, it gives you courage to say anything no matter how ridiculous you have proven to be. Now the lesson today boys is, be careful what you say and how you judge someone because someone might be keeping track….

Baker needs these type of comments to be a top5-10’QB ,,, they chip on the shoulder couples w smarts , arm strength and desire can’t be underestimated

  18. DrunkInYbor Says:

I’ll run routes 8n the Florida sun all day every day 7 days a week for 500,000 k. Just sayin.. he is being compensated very very well

  19. geno711 Says:

McCarthy will be available. The game has passed him by, He make more bonehead in game decisions than any coach out there. Please do a search for those. They are too huge to count.

Love Mike’s interview! Favorite player since A&M with Johnny M. Love his humor too!

  21. Zoocomics Says:

These aren’t isolated comments regarding Baker’s locker room vs Brady’s locker room…came up in a broadcast last season and Brady even commented sharply on it.

For those that aren’t picking up on it, read between the lines. It’s great to have a “cool guy” like Baker in the locker room, he’s a baller, a great guy. But at the end of the day this team goes through its peaks and valleys, i.e. the losing streaks, playing down to inferior competition, not playing up to the hype, because of accountability. Guys like Brady, JPP and Suh brought that accountability. This isn’t all on Baker, the defense lacks that character as well. This team is missing a dawg that is ready to get in your face and tell you, you’re f@cking up! Baker is much like Jameis in that regard as in “don’t worry about it, you’ll get them next time” kind of guy, or so he appears to be. That wasn’t Tom, you probably got one f@ck up, then afterwords you’re going to hear it or sit. This forces players to come prepared and focus on the details, no days off. It’s a culture that doesn’t sound very fun, but critical in beating better teams consistently, not just making playoffs but winning championships, etc.

And it’s tough being that guy. First, your game has to show for it. Baker simply has too many flaws in his game. Brady wasn’t mistake free, but he knew how to take advantage of second chances, and he was a certified killer when it came to closing out a game. Contrary to many of the voices on this website, Baker still needs to show us that. Attack me all you want, but even with all the gaudy numbers, results don’t lie, we are still a .500 team. This season? Baker still has another gear to find, and we could not be any more loaded on offense this season for him to get there. If Grizzard finds his footing as a play caller, and we stay healthy, there’s no reason we can’t make the conference championship, and/or NFC championship.

  22. Teacherman Says:

    Mike is smart.

Keep avoiding those big hits Mike!

Get down and out of the way!

    Go Bucs!

  23. Irish Laughter Says:

Baker had to elevate his game and grow up. This was the shot he got from former coaches and teammates. Following Brady he was forced to rise to the occasion. I love watching Mayfield. He is never out of a play. If Brady, according to Evens, changed the culture of our Bucs, you can say that Brady forced Mayfield to get better. Keeping it real in Skibbereen, Ireland.

  24. Davyboy Says:

Zoo is right. All that i know and like about Baker I ust don’t know if he can be that guy. I think he can but I don’t know. I really hope this being his 3rd year he comes out and does that because there were just too many mental mistakes last year from the whole team. Not everybody can be like that, thus the one goat-TB12. I think he can/will do it to a degree but to the Brady degree, I don’t know. Somebody needs to do it, that’s for sure. I do know this, there is nobody that wants to win as bad as Baker does so maybe that will be his impetus. Take away our dumb mistakes last year and we win several more games.
