“I’m Sure One Of These Days We’ll See Him”

May 27th, 2025

Todd Bowles was asked about big-money free agent edge rusher Haason Reddick today at One Buc Palace.

The question (not from Joe) revolved around Reddick’s absence today at the opening spring OTA practice.

Other big name veterans were missing, such as Mike Evans, Lavonte David, Tristan Wirfs, Chris Godwin and Vita Vea. But they know their roles intimately while Reddick is a newcomer.

Bowles’ response felt sarcastic with a slight whiff of disappointment. “I’m sure one of these days we’ll see him,” Bowles said.

Joe can’t moan about a veteran missing a voluntary practice in May. Bowles did hint that some missing players are “nicked up” and for some, it’s not a lingering injury from last season.

Joe will pray Reddick is not among the wounded.

    He’s chillin with Randy Gregory.

  2. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

You can’t make a practice voluntary and then bellyache if veterans don’t show up.

If it matters, make it mandatory. Then no-shows would be a concern

  3. Aqualung Says:

Maybe if Todd personally spoke to Reddick and explained why his presence as a newbie in this Mensa complex defense would help flatten the learning curve, he’d be out there. Or maybe at least explain to Todd why he wouldn’t be.

It’s always about communication. And coaching.

    Or lack thereof.

  4. JustVisiting Says:

You can’t fine, but you can bellyache.

  5. Lewi Says:

    Well it’s his career

If he bombs this year then it’s on him

No more big contracts, you’d think he’d be hungry

  6. MisterBuc Says:

He’ll be just fine.. these practices are voluntary! He’ll be there when the time comes..

  7. White Tiger Says:

Not a great look for a guy who, we’ve been told, wants to make everyone forget his NY Jets experience behind him…

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Licht great track record with the Draft…not so much with FA….we will see with Reddick…it’s his career on the line…not Lichts…

  9. Jerseybuc Says:

Voluntary is the key word here. Would you want him there of course. Is it a big deal he’s not? Nope

  10. stpetebucsfan Says:

    TBBF FTW

Exactly. It’s Reddick’s career and he was a relatively inexpensive gamble. If he blows it this year he becomes somebody else’s problem.

  11. rrsrq Says:

They probably told him to stay home and let Braswell and the rooks get some reps. Don’t forget, Reddick has played for Foote

  12. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

True, as a new guy on a team, especially on a sort of ‘prove it’ contract, I personally would want to get familiar with the facilities and coaches as soon as possible. However, he’s a talented and smart vet. Even with Todd’s ‘complicated defense’, he’ll pick up his responsibilities quickly. He can read offenses well enough to know what play is likely coming at them and his mission is to search and destroy. I have no worries as long as he’s healthy. With YaYa on the other edge and Vita and Kancey in the middle, he’ll be able to feast. No worries about voluntary practices or ‘underwear football’, either.

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

He don’t want no part of Tampa heat unt he has to..🔥

  14. heyjude Says:

Don’t feel there are any problems. It’s voluntary. I would rather have them not there instead of possibly getting hurt. Reddick and others already know the lay of the land. Not worried.

  15. Buccup Says:

Hope he’s not another Randy Gregory.

  16. Hodad Says:

JTS never missed an OTA. Mr. Reddick, just show up on game day. Hey, it’s his future. He’s on a one year prove it deal. If he doesn’t prove it, he’s out of the league. More reps for Braz, and Walker.

That’s not a bad list of Licht FA home runs. Yes there are some misses, but even A Brown helped us win a SB. I’ll take it.

  18. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

And… R Jenson. Let’s let Licht work his magic.

  19. Usfbucs Says:

We brought in a pass rusher hopefully we keep it simple for Reddick and his game plan is get the QB every play. Also not worried about no show for a voluntary workout.

  20. ElioT Says:

Dang, I figure you’d at least like to see those guys there to bonding and leadership reasons.

  21. Scott Says:

    1 last cash grab.

  22. richbucsfan Says:

Hmm, ‘nicked up’? How does that happen when the team hasn’t done anything? Seriously, how can they be nicked up?

  23. Fred McNeil Says:

This is Reddick’s 9th season. I’m not too concerned just yet. If he misses mandatory camp in two weeks then I’ll start to worry about another Gregory stunt.

  24. J Says:

This is a little alarming… only due to the fact that Reddick said he wants to erase the stigma that he and his agent created. That starts by showing up to get ahead of the game. Well, where the Fu@k are you buddy?! If it’s a family emergency I’ll understand, but last year for Reddick was a vacation so he doesn’t need one. Someone with TRUE work ethic would be there right now. This is absolutely not the way to start your season with a team you’re unfamiliar with. I’m getting bad vibes from this guy already. I hope he’s an animal this year, and the time he’s taking off was worth it.

It’s also extremely important he be at OTAs because he didn’t attend a single one last year with the Jets. He’s already behind the 8 ball here guys and girls regardless of what he’s achieved in the past.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Reddick needs to be there. With the new scheme and everything. Hope he’s a fast study. And I surely hope and pray his erformance of last year was a total fluke. You had better hope so too.

  26. Kenton Smith Says:

If he shows up out of shape then we’d have something to worry about. Because if he shows up out of shape we’ve got an ornery offensive line that will get his head on right in a quick fashion. My bet is he knows what he needs to do and is doing it.

  27. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

What does he have to do that is more pressing right now? He has known when OTAs are for months now. He has been off for almost 6 months, longer if you count his season with the Jets. Seriously, what in your schedule is more important, when you have had months to plan? Voluntary does not mean voluntary to great players/teams.

  28. garro Says:

Reddick is not being any too smart. New team, new coaches, new teammates and, most importantly new scheme. Could help himself here but chose not to.
Collecting a check? JPP around? Shaq?
    Go Bucs!

  29. Sal Says:

Should have drafted a pass rusher with the first 3 picks #!!

  30. Keydoc Says:

Licht great track record with the Draft…not so much with FA….we will see with Reddick…it’s his career on the line…not Lichts???
    Shaq
    JPP

  31. ThatAintRight! Says:

    I agree with Eric.

It’s not mandatory, so if it’s not mandatory why show up?
There’s so much money being distributed in the NFL.

Football can definitely get physical and he probably thinks it’s best for his body and career to stay home. I’m not exactly worried about it. He’s a guy when regular season is a firecracker.

I’m very excited for his presence in TB. I totally get where the veterans are coming from with this. When I start a new job and have “experience” , they don’t wanna credit me with anything I did at my previous employer.

It’s like I’m legit in the same field. Wtf you smoking. LOL.
So why work as hard if you wanna give me less then other guys. Hahaha It’s a joke. Same treatment or no work. We can all be homeless together. Hehehehe

  32. BucU Says:

I think he should’ve attended these OTA’s. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t remember hearing at his initial Buc press conference that he knows he’s coming into a great organization with a great locker room. I’m not sure he fits into our team first mentality. We’ll see.

  33. Purplebeard Says:

My spidey sense is tingling, and not in a good way

  34. Crickett Baker Says:

Yeah, mandatory or not, it doesn’t sit well with many (see above) fans, including me. If his absence doesn’t bother the team, I guess that’s fine, but he is already PO-ing a lot of us fans, many of whom are pretty snarky. He better have a lot of great football left in him. We are watching every move he makes.

  35. Bobby Says:

    Von Miller is still available

  36. geno711 Says:

I find it hilarious that fans act like this part of the season is important for veterans. It is not.

Watch every move he makes fine. But let the dude starting playing for our team before the trolling starts. Jeez.
