“I Still Feel Like I Can Dominate”

May 29th, 2025

Joe is hyped to hear how fired up Lavonte David is for his 14th NFL season, but Joe also was intrigued to hear David name nine current and ex-Bucs that motivate and drive him to this day.

Was Devin White on the list? Nahhhhhh.

David sat down with The Jim Rome Show yesterday and noted how he’s had spectacular teammates around him setting great examples, grinding by his side through tough times and more. Their support still drives him today.

The list? Gerald McCoy, Mike Evans, Will Gholston, Mason Foster, Kwon Alexander, Danny Lansanah, Mason Foster and Adam Hayward. T

he latter five were linebackers that played alongside David.

David later credited McCoy and Rondé Barber for being work ethic models during his early seasons.

Now, David said, he treasures supporting young players and feels he can lead by example effectively, including on the field. “I still feel I can dominate,” he said.

At 35 years old, David said his greatest driving force is feeling the Bucs were good enough to reach the Super Bowl last season and didn’t, combined with the team again being doubted this year while likely having a better roster.

“That stung, definitely,” David said of last season, adding it took him at least a few weeks to get over the playoff loss to Washington.

A Greg Schiano special, he knows defense and drafted a LB whose name can be compared with Brooks. Would to think about it and I thank my lucky stars each season that I get to watch Lavonte on play for the Buccaneers. He’s a beast and I hope we get him and vita and Mike another ring so we can start bellowing about the hall of fame to Ira. Cheers, go Bucs, I think we have a helluva team. Especially if we have OLB edge rush presence allowing Yaya to be the #2

Teams that are good enough to reach the Superbowl don’t allow an opponent over 35 minutes of possession in a playoff game.

And if your offense is ranked top 3, it needs to stay on the field and not go uber conservative in the biggest moments.

Defense wins championships. And yet we yielded only one sack by LVD and forced zero punts.

Turns out you do need to score more points than your opponent.

    Hey Joe
    Mason Foster Is listed twice

Still thin at LB. Fingers crossed.

They clocked LVD at over 20mph last year when he ran down Jayden Daniels, so the dude is still fast.

Which means he can still be the same LVD we know and love.

That was Derrick Brooks’ main issue his last couple years. He got too slow to be out there and be effective.

LVD hasn’t hit that speed wall yet.

    And amen for that!

Britt made mason foster look fast

    Mason Foster got 2 nods.
Maybe Ronde Barber was supposed to be there?

    David is a “Special” individual.

I would love to see this legend get one more ring. He’s such a competitor that I really do think he has one more long playoff run in him. I wonder if Bowles will limit his snap count some to try and keep him fresh for the postseason? LVD has rarely missed any snaps in his career, so I’m not sure if he’d allow it!

London Fletcher. Guy played at a high level until he was 37 and completed 16 seasons in the league. If LVD matches that he’ll be back one more year after 25 retiring in ’26.

London Fletcher is obviously the exception not the rule but LVD has been exceptional up till now, no reason other than injury he can’t continue his stellar career.

Rooting for Lavonte. He is one of the best! If he says he can still dominate. I believe him.

  11. Aqualung Says:

Maybe Lavonte can help out the under-deployed defensive coaching staff to return to some level of modest competence.

    3rd down “Tampa 7!”

Get LVD off the field sometimes! Make sure he’s healthy for the playoffs.

    Rush 4. Plus 7 DBs.

    Yes. 7 DBs!

We were the home of the Tampa 2. Now it’s time for the “Tampa 7”

Yaya, Vea, Kancey and Reddick rushing.

    Zion and Dean outside.

Morrison and Parish as our “double nickels”

Izien and Tykes Smith hit like LBs. Let them cover intermediate routes.

    And Winfield back deep.

Izien, Parish, Winfield and Tykes Smith have all STARTED at nickle.

    They can blitz and HIT.

    Give LVD some snaps off!

It’s time for the Tampa 7!
