Bucky Irving Doesn’t Care About His Numbers From Last Year

May 16th, 2025

Sitdown with Kay Adams.

Bucs running back Bucky Irving did a sitdown with Kay Adams for an edition of her weekday show “Up and Adams” seen on FanDuel Network.

Adams’ producer put up a graphic of Bucky’s stats from his rookie season — 1,514 yards from scrimmage, including 1,122 yards rushing with eight touchdown runs, all leading NFL rookie running backs in 2024.

Bucky didn’t want to talk about that.

First, he said he’s not much into stats. When Adams pressed him to name his favorite stat from 2024, Bucky said those are irrelevant now.

“I’m not really a guy [into statistics],” Bucky said. “I pretty much live in the present.

“In this profession, I feel like they don’t really care about what you did last year. So you see these [stats], so I’ve got to do this all over again.”

Adams then asked Bucky what his goals are statistically for this fall, and Bucky replied that he doesn’t have any. He just wants to contribute in each game in whatever way helps the Bucs win.

As a result, Bucky isn’t worried about his numbers. The only number that concerns him is the number of wins the Bucs have.

A very mature, focused guy – a Licht guy.

  2. Freddy PA Moxie Says:

He’s no rookie, now, baby! Class act for a second year guy. Also, runs like a squirrel, which I love (much like Tez). Just win, baby.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Teams will be prepared for him this year….looking forward to that 4 WR set with Bucky in the backfield….

    That’s the proper answer

Agreed @JimBobBuc… love the maturity of this kid. Licht nailed this pick. This roster looks so damn good. This season will have a lot do with Grizzard figuring out playing calling as a first-year play caller, and Baker finding another gear. These things happen and the league certainly will be put on notice.

  6. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

I like it, nothing to worry about back there in the past, it was pretty awesome. If you’re comfortable about all that you accomplished that’s the only thing that matters, so you reset and do it again right. He came to the NFL and handled his business and we are proud of his first season. I think he was awesome, no BS hit the hole and a bounce n cut bye bye. Love it!! Let’s Go Bucs!!!!😔

  7. PSL Bob Says:

The fire power is certainly there on offense. The o-line is solid as a rock. The only unknown is Grizzard’s aptitude for scheming offensive plays and being creative with his play calling. C’mon Grizz, you got this! LFG!

  8. Colonel Angus Says:

As Gruden would say, “I really like this guy”.

  9. Lt. Dan Says:

Spot on JimBob…a Licht kinda guy.

Fun interview, especially the “Buck the Trend” game! Some surprises.

  11. Mike C Says:

Smh…. this efffin guy right here, This is My kinda Guy right here! L F G!!!

We’ll see if that holds true when his agent starts negotiating his Second Contract.

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

Tampabaybucfan, if we run a 4 receiver set we would probably put White in the back field because he’s a better blocker.
Irving seems well focused. Will he be even better this season?

  14. ModHairKen Says:

He’s right. Because stats are for losers*

*Except Mike Evans’ 1,000 yard streak. Ken is obsessed with that one. (We all have a guilty pleasure).

  15. PanhandleBuc Says:

I am only concerned with 2 stats this year – Mike’s 1K (of course) & the division’s 1st 5-peat. Let the rest work itself out!!

  16. August1976Buc Says:

The last 2 games of the regular season when Bucky became the starter, he was not the same, it was little off for whatever reason.
Hopefully that means nothing. But it was very different compared to before he was the starter.

With that said, he has been 1000 times better then Rashad as a runner.

Rashad definitely stepped his game up as a receiver out of the backfield, he excels there.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  17. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

He’s got the right attitude. Another great Licht draft pick.

  18. WeakSecondary Says:

This kid is truly special. We are damn lucky to have him on the team.

He’s not concerned with meaningless stats.

But I bet he is concerned about the only stat that matters in his short NFL career to this point.

That would be 0-1 in the playoffs.

He wants to win football games in the grandest of stages.

Not failing miserably in front of the home crowd and a National Audience.

For a young man of his character, that does not measure up to his standards.

lol another gm slobberfest. i guess dialing for dollars is slow this friday am?

    That’s a captain talking.

  21. ballwasher61 Says:

I remember when people asked why we didn’t take the Kentucky RB that Coen knew and was productive and questioned the Bucky pick. I can understand that but now we know that Licht knew and knows what he is doing , just like this year. But again it is still a crap shoot but this is what happens when you have the draft philosophy that the Bucs have, really can’t question going for character guys that love football. That second part, that love football, is part of the Licht equation.

  22. adam from ny Says:

bucky did kinda say he’s thinking 2k from scrimmage this year 🙂

  23. adam from ny Says:

i think we gotta work the screens to rachaad more heavily into the game plan again this year…

i’d like to see rachaad get 600 on the ground and 400 thru the air this year…

as well as bucky getting his 2k

  24. GoneGator Says:

    Hey tb#1
I bet what Bucky is REALLY not concerned with is what an obessesive-compulsive bigot is saying about him, or his coach, no matter what the topic is, every day, on this website.

Especially when that person changes their name repeatedly.

  25. SlyPirate Says:

Throw a 28 on that jersey and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

WD ran harder than Bucky but Bucky is more ellusive.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

    Sounds like a great interview.

What do you think about x? I don’t think about it.
What are your future plans? I don’t think about it.

I love Bucky, but man, this is why I never ever listen to player interviews. Unless it’s Sapp explaining that these jackballs on the field need to keep their head on a swivel. That’s great life advise that is useful when you’re in Ybor City at 3am.

What does my criticism have to do with being a bigot?

Good that was last year, goes without saying
    They will game
    Plan him now.
