Rams Bosses Openly Hungry For Jalen Ramsey; Bucs?

April 22nd, 2025

So a young head coach on a Hall of Fame track, Sean McVay, and one of the game’s great general managers, Les Snead, were openly pining today for cornerback Jalen Ramsey to return to their 10-7 Rams football team.

Ramsey’s wacky Dolphins are trying to trade him.

The seven-time Pro Bowler was healthy last season and still has some juice in his versatile game and 30-year-old legs.

“You would never eliminate the possibility of adding a total stud,” McVay said of Ramsey today at his pre-draft news conference, per multiple reports.

Snead said, via Stu Jackson of the Rams’ official website, he has contacted the Dolphins about Ramsey.

Ramsey is a better player than Bucs cornerback Jamel Dean, and certainly a lot more versatile. He’s owed $20.15 million this season and a trade could include the Dolphins picking up a chunk of the tab.

Publicly, Bucs officials have acted down on Dean and high on adding a cornerback during this week’s NFL Draft.

What about Ramsey?

The Bucs invested $12 million plus incentives in an edge rusher, Haason Reddick, a talented guy Ramsey’s age but coming off an ugly season with a history of being unfulfilled by his team.

Joe would be very intrigued to know what the Bucs really think of Ramsey and how, if at all, he could help them get to a Super Bowl this season.

I may be wrong, but I have heard that he’s not much of a team player

    boy you’re quick joe

Don’t you find it weird that a team that has been openly “down’ on a player would be trying to trade him? Talk about driving down the value of player you are trying to leverage value out of….bad business! Dean is staying pat and will have to fight for his spot as a starter

  4. Ancient Says:

Money would be much more sensible spent on Trey Hendrickson, even with (likely) a 2025 second rounder and 2026 4th rounder going to Cincy for him. MUCH More of an impact, world class guy, much better immediate fix than any DE in the draft, and locker room leader versus cancer kid in Ramsey.

Plus makes more more deep playoff run sense to make use of ME 13 final seasons.

    Get it done JL!

    Ancient..

    Agreed.

Chemistry. This guy has a high opinion of himself. But: He’s delivered. He knows how to motivate. Does he still have that desire or is he looking at his bank account and his future and maybe not as gung ho as he was as a rookie?

These issues are for Licht and Bowles to work through.

  9. GoneGator Says:

According to one of the talking heads he asked for a trade because he wants to play for a contender while he can still play and he doesn’t see the fish as contenders anytime soon. 🤔

  10. ballwasher61 Says:

They don’t want him getting beat by Evans in practice too as that would shatter his ego and put him in permanent fetal position.

  11. SlyPirate Says:

    I don’t see it.

Dallas is involved in several big trade discussions. Are they shopping Parsons? He’s going to g t majorly paid but he’d make the Bucs a SB fav for the next time years.

  12. Pickgrin Says:

Yea – and after this one ‘reasonable’ year cap hit wise – Ramsey is due another $80M+ over the next 3 seasons…. he’ll be 35 and owed $36M in 2028….

No team is going to trade for Ramsey with that albatross of a contract.

If he gets cut and you are negotiating a ‘fair’ deal from scratch – then that’s a very different situation….

    ^^^^^^^
Every other team has seen the Bucs PLAYOFF GAME at crunch time and Dean riding on the stationary bicycle. They already know.

30 is the new 80 for cb’s… pass

    $20 million….30 years old….and in 2 days we have the 19th pick.

    NOPE…..TBBF doesn’t think so…

  16. Andrew Says:

One thing I haven’t heard anyone mention really is that Ramsey can play Safety. We don’t have to stick him at CB. Even if he’s losing a step, have him be your hybrid nickel/safety and he can still be elite.

  17. ElioT Says:

    No thanks.

Bucs are in such a good position prior to the draft.

  18. Gipper Says:

Really like the Hendrickson idea expressed in these posts. It is clear that Bucs are not going to find in this draft an EDGE who can immediately change the tenor of this defense. Not sure about the cost but maybe a couple years of 2nd or 3rd round picks? With ME and CG aging, Bucs need to win now.

  19. garro Says:

Ramsey is a proven commodity and it would be fun to screw the Rams and Miami at the same time. Added bonus is it opens up the draft board for Jason to do his thing.

    Go Bucs!

  20. Defense Rules Says:

With the right moves, Bucs will be in contention for a Super Bowl championship in 2025 AND 2026 as a minimum. We’ve already renegotiated several huge contracts of our own vets to free up salary CAP this year (we currently rank #9 with 74 players under contract and $32.4 mil of Top-51 salary CAP space). And that’s AFTER including our current $33.6 mil of Dead CAP space. IOW we’ve got room to maneuver, BUT … we’ve already kicked a rather sizable can of salary CAP down the street into 2026 & beyond.

I think that every JBFer already knows what ‘the right moves’ are to compete this year and next: Fix our friggin defense. Our offense did great last year (#4 in Points Scored), but our defense was only middle-of-the-pack (#16) in Points Allowed. We need several improvements, and we know what they are. The draft starts tomorrow, and IF we need it, we’ve got salary CAP space to play with to solve any remaining problems that still exist after the draft. Git ‘er done.

  21. Teacherman Says:

    I wish.

Can you imagine Ramsey as a nickle?

Deion was a nickle at the end of his career.

Jalen would be a sick nickle. He’s huge. He hits hard. He hates losing.

I believe the future of the NFL is to be 6 deep at CB.

    Make it happen!

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

I agree with Pickgrin. If they can get a favorable enough deal perhaps but no to future indebtness beyond this season.

  23. Fan of the South Says:

Rams were 15th in Offense and 26th in Defense last season compared to the Bucs 3rd and 18th.

Rams destroyed the Vikings and were 3rd and 2 at the Eagles 13 yard line with a great opportunity to advance to the Championship when Philly’s second year defensive monster got his most important sack of the season. With the addition of WR Adams and if they add Ramsey they are instantly a legit Super Bowl Contender even before the draft.

Bucs face both the Eagles and the Rams this season and if they don’t get Ramsey to fortify their defense they better have great success in the draft or get the second year production from their 2024 draftees that the Eagles got from their second year 1st round pick or it’s going to be a must that the Bucs make history with a 5th straight Division Championship.

  24. Aqualung Says:

    Jason is. No worries.

Need a beer to chase the bloody. Made it too strong.
